Project Overview

What is this project?

This project is my thesis film as a 3rd year animation student. By contributing to this project, you are helping me graduate! Hooray! On a more technical standpoint, this project is a 6-minute animated short film.


Synopsis?

A young boy runs away from his religious home following an argument between him and his dad. In his haste, he ends up in an accident that reveals to him, through strange dreams, how he should go about fixing the situation between him and his father without it being at the expense of his own beliefs and independence.

  • CLOSING DEER AUDITIONS EARLY - EXTENDING LAYOUT/ROUGH ARTIST DEADLINE

    hello hello helloww!

    I'll be closing the deer auditions a little early and reviewing the shortlisted candidates. I hope to pick someone in the next 2-3 days or so! I am informing you all rn that I'm still figuring this website out, so if it doesn't reflect on your end that the auditions for the deer are closed, then #trust that I am working on that hahahaha

    This is also to encourage more people to audition for the boy and the dad, as well as the layout/rough artist role.

    The boy and the dad auditions will still close on OCTOBER 15, 2026. However, I will be extending the layout/rough artists role to OCTOBER 21, 2026!

What will you do?
Clean up the storyboard scene composition and tighten up the character key poses. Minimal background art as well.

Skills
>Good understanding of perspectives
>Clean line art
>Character anatomy, facial expression, and poses (especially poses in varying perspectives!)
>Can adhere to deadlines (and communicate when adjustments need to be made.)

Things to keep in mind:
Most of the background art will be provided, meaning you will focus mostly on tightening up character key poses. However, some background art will not be provided because it can be done in the layout since it either has minimal detail, reuses background art, or is just a solid color.

Please provide examples of previous layout work or examples of work that align with the skills required!

Rough scene animations, nothing clean or fancy. To get basic character and background movements and expressions down. As well as pacing.

Skills needed

>Can adhere to deadlines (and communicate when adjustments need to be made.)

Things to keep in mind:
Why Toon Boom? It is so file sharing or checking on outputs is easier for everyone involved.

Who are you playing?
The son of a religious man. The boy is reserved. He holds most cards close to his chest, which often leads to misunderstandings. He fears being responsible for his choices, as he doesn’t want to make the wrong choice and be punished for it.

What are we looking for in the voice?
Young, like 14 years old. Angsty, rough around the edges, troubled, and earnest. Should sound a little high-pitched or strained.

EDIT: no accent in mind however a Filipino voice actor would be preferred!

Who are you playing?
Strict and condescending, the dad is soothed when the people he loves listen to him. He likes things done his way. He is not a fan of change and struggles with accepting new developments in the things he is familiar with.

What are we looking for in the voice?
Gruff, old. Look up Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and listen to him speak to get a rough idea of how he should sound!

EDIT: no accent in mind however a Filipino voice actor would be preferred!

Who are you playing?
Anthropomorphic deer lady! She acts as the boy's subconscious; the deer's personality reflects the boy's in that she is also reserved. However, she is more mischievous and self-assured than the boy, both traits being something the boy lacks.

Motivations?
She wants to guide the boy into realizing what he wants/needs to do in relation to resolving the issues or at least getting on the right path to reconciling with his dad.

What are we looking for in the voice?
God-like, ominous, kind of motherly, and mischievous.
