Ashes of War is an original story and visual novel in the making. It is fantasy drama that follows multiple characters and their experiences during the destructive war between the Ashen kingdom and the Hyperion empire.
Part 1 of AoW was streamed as a standalone VA reading and was received well by the director’s community. Inspired to expand upon the story, they decided to take the story and make an official visual novel out of it using the RPG Maker program as the vehicle to tell it. As the story was inspired with voice acting in mind, this is where you come in.
This casting call is made to breathe life to those characters and the world of Vyce with talented voices. It is expected to be an on-going series with multiple installments as the story develops. Our team will only accept auditions from those that are willing to be a part of this cast for the long haul. Thank you all so much in advance for your interest in this passion project. Participants must be 18+ only. Any auditions submitted by a minor will be dismissed.
If casted, expect to be reached out over discord and be willing to take calls during readings.
Recording requirements:
Good mic quality with little to no static or background noise.
No popping sounds, try to keep the lines clear
Leave one second of silence before, after, and in between lines
AABBCC or ABCABC format
Suggested recording programs for new voice actors: audacity (free to use) and OBS (with easy noise cancelling filters)

Hello everyone!
We are in the final week of this casting call and myself and the team are so grateful for all of the wonderful submissions we have received. As more people show interest in lending their voices to this passion project, I decided to dedicate an entire stream to go over the VA listing. I’ll be talking about the project, hyping up the characters that will appear in Part 1 & 2, and will actually read aloud the auditions lines for everyone to hear to give ya’ll an idea of the tones we’ve set for the story.
No audio from actors that have auditioned for this projected will be played during the streams.
For those that haven’t auditioned yet and are interested, this is a great opportunity to listen in and gauge what I and the team are looking for. For those that have already auditioned but would like to listen in as well, you are free to resubmit your auditions if you were inspired to give the lines another pass (will provide instructions on how to do so in stream - DO NOT resubmit via casting call club unless noted otherwise). To note, it is still highly encouraged that those that audition to give their own unique spin or flair to their lines. The readings done during the stream are only meant for reference as well as a first look on what voice acting under my team’s direction will look like if casted.

Kassander is the king of Ash. A caring husband and father, and a just ruler, he is also blessed with divine foresight that adds a heavy weight on his mind and soul. The burden of leadership visibly wears on him but his love for his homeland and people never wavers.
(Slightly irate) “What the blazing cock happened to you two?”
(Scolding) “You will repent in a manner I deem fit for the offense, that is a discussion I will have with both you and your uncle at a later time. Until then, reflect on your incompetence. And get out.”
(Somber) “Then you look up and it seemed as if none of it happened. Like you had just awakened from a dream.”
Artem is the lieutenant of the Ashen Kingdom's crownguard and the son of the influential Hollow family. He gave up lordship to join the ranks of knighthood although his reasoning for doing so goes beyond mere loyalty to his country. And though a man of few words, Artem is unafraid to speak his mind when the situation demands.
(matter-of-factly) "Although you have not declared him your heir, he desired to prove himself capable of protecting his lordship and serving the realm regardless of his standing in the royal hierarchy."
(owning up) "If anyone has failed today, it is I. I failed to uphold the esteemed reputation of the crownguard."
(amused, good-natured) "Haven’t the slightest idea. It was likely awkward, filled with uncomfortable silences and longing stares."
Valathena is princess of the Ashen Kingdom and twin to Prince Dionel. Like her brother, she possesses a strong sense of duty to her family and people, but within her just heart belies a secret desire for more beyond the castle walls.
(solemn) "Father said that it is like watching a play while also being an actor in it. You follow a script and watch the scenes go. Even if you hate what you see, you are powerless to look away and must see it to its end."
(saddened) "And he’s getting on in his years… I… I cannot help but feel as if I’m failing him and our people."
(amused) "You truly cannot grasp sarcasm, can you?"
Dionel is prince of the Ashen Kingdom. Although he is a kind soul with a mind for responsibility and justice, he lacks confidence and is self-depreciatingly well aware of this. Despite this, the young man does his best to uphold the good name and reputation of his noble family with everything he does.
(self-depreciating) "…I do not believe that the Phoenix will choose me as their Dreamkeeper. Nor will they choose Valathena, as capable as she would be as queen."
(defensive) "Lies! My father would never harbor such a malevolent will."
(doubtful, but determined) "…I don’t know if I can be that man. But I will try. For my father, the king. And for myself."
Warrick is the brother of Kassander and both a prince and military general of the Ashen Kingdom. He is a prideful man hardened by war and strife, thus easy to anger and hard to please. Regardless, he is always ready to defend his house and country with unmatched ferocity.
(bitter) "If all men kept their word in the name of everlasting peace, there would no longer be a need for soldiers and armies."
(commanding) "Swords! Drop your blade! On your knees, commander! Now! That’s an order!"
(threatening) "Keep whispering about my house and your tongue is mine. I do not care if you are a woman."
Pallas is the wife of Kassander and queen of Ash. She is a motherly figure whose patience and kindness passed down to her twin children. Rarely does she ever raise her voice and her demeanor is akin to a warm, gentle breeze.
(amused) “Yes, I can see that. Well, has the crownguard’s finest claim victory over the wardrobe?”
(strict) “Shh! What the prince said does not leave these chambers. Are we clear?“
(consoling) “Ellen. Peace. Peace. Calm your heart. Listen to my voice.”
Ellenise is the sister of Kassander and Warrick Einares. She was a former prisoner of the Hyperion Empire. Her time under captivity has left deep mental scars which bleed through to the surface.
(disconnected) “Crimson and black. White and gold. Ashes of war. Death burns cold.”
(panicked) “I cannot go back there! I cannot! Father, don’t make me-!”
(sobbing) “…Pallas? Oh… I’ve lost myself again, haven’t I?”
Marz is Kassander’s royal advisor and retainer. They have served the royal family loyally for many years, their wisdom a valuable asset to the kingdom. They carry their duty with modest pride and an ever calculating mind.
“Your father may be blessed by a god, but he is only a man. And men, even great men like him, make mistakes.”
(amused) “So quick to sharpen your tongue yet not too long ago it sat like a dull knife in its sheath.”
(slight encouragement) “He needs you to be a great man. A better man. Better than him. Because you have a good heart. And can afford the sort of kindness and compassion that his grace cannot himself spare.“
Lucanis is the younger brother of the queen and head of the religious faction that spreads the worship of the Phoenix across the realm. He possesses a personality atypical of a religious man and seemingly cares little about the political affairs of Ash. He wears a smirk that appears to never leave his face.
“Well, it is not our place as ordinary men to question the will of gods nor is it our place to demand when said gods will make their will known. As beings beyond our reach, they can do as they please. We are merely participants in their grand design.“
“Claims such as yours could get you excommunicated, my dear.”
“Intriguing. Why take such great measures of precaution for a party? Should the guests of his house be alarmed?“
Talon is an acolyte of the Worship of the Phoenix faction and spymaster to Lucanis Felstar. She is wrapped in mystery and dry wit.
(musing) “He did not appear like a man disturbed by potential danger. If anything, he looked… sad. It’s just a feeling, though. He has an air of dread about him.“
(casual) “His children are, what, twenty years now? Seems like the flame god is overlooking them.”
(slight praise) “The potential is promising. Footwork will need more time, but the instinct is there.”
An enigmatic man who somehow infiltrated the Ashen Kingdom with large imperial forces in tow undetected. He does not mince words and speaks with definitive and terrifying command.
“…Kill them.”
“Burn it all.”
*laugh*
Laera is the mother of Kalis Sternly and a former crownguard. She was celebrated as the first female to join the ranks of knighthood and was notably capable in her services to the realm. She appears in the story only in flashbacks.
“Relax, my lord. I’m merely teasing. Thank you for having me here. Tis a great honor.”
“I just believe that if one desires to defend their country, gender is irrelevant. Or it should be, anyways.”
“Don’t think too hard about it. Just look at her. When you gaze upon that face, what is the first thought that comes to mind? And what name fits a child like that? If she were yours to call.”
Alezar is the lord of Sworn and husband to Laera of Mirewynn. He was the king’s best friend in their youth. Only appears in flashbacks.
(encouraging) “Why don’t you go see for yourself? Well, come on then. The baby hasn’t grown their teeth yet.“
(amused) “These past several days, exhausted. But she refuses to let any wet nurses help care for the child. So the stress is, alas, self-inflicted.”
“My heart. There will come a time where a decision must be made. The course that follows may run beyond your control. When this happens, do not lose faith. In yourself or in those you hold dear. The path you walk need not be taken alone.“
The Lady of Hollow Reach and the mother of Artem Hollow. A harsh woman who is deeply respected by her subjects yet feared by her noble peers and even her own family. She speaks with ice in her voice to match her steely glare and demeanor.
(Direct, then dismissive) “Where is the rest of the royal family? I was not talking to you, I speak with the disappointment in front of me.”
(Cold) “Hmph. Useless. As expected of you.“
