Shadows of Tomorrow: Voice/Artist Call!
Project Overview
Welcome to the casting for Project VSS: Shadows of Tomorrow. This is my OC lore comic/video series, and i’m progressing the show and searching for voices to bring the characters to life! This search is for storyboard artists, as well as voices for upcoming characters Navar/Vee and Ash. Episodes 1-6 are currently out and available to watch, the show is projected to last at least 11 episodes and has plans for a season two. But what’s the series about? Here’s the overview of where the story takes place!
In this fantasy world of hybrids, there are 5 kingdoms. Luaars (Lew-ours), the kingdom of land. Soaars (So-ours), the kingdom of outcasts. Glacier Heights, the kingdom of ice and dogs. Dretop (dreh-top), the kingdom of sky and birds. And the Hotlands, the kingdom of lava and Thedarians (the-dare-ians, basically piglins). The Luaars and Soaars are the biggest kingdoms, with Luaars having the most control over the five and considered the “capital” of the entire area. Within the past 10 years there was a massive war between the five kingdoms. The “Great King” Maru of Luaars ended the war and established peace amongst the lands, as the story tells. Maru establishes a cabinet of his most loyal and strongest citizens to help him rule and maintain peace, yet the neighboring Soaars is beginning to harbor resentment. The young prince of Soaars, Sai Crest, was set to marry Maru’s right hand lady and leader to the Department of Internal Affairs, Lene. But a series of misunderstandings and bad allies leads to a breakup, consequences echoing to every corner of the land. Sai now threatens to decimate every kingdom except his own as revenge on Lene, unless King Maru succumbs to his demands. How can his companions keep him from starting the biggest mass genocide in the history of Rinta? Is it too late to stop his madness, or can his friends save the world from the upcoming apocalypse?
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO JOIN THE PROJECT? I’d love as CLEAR audio as i can get, but i will consider every take i hear. Having good audio with as little fuzz as possible will heavily boost chances. I’ll be doing communications through discord, so you’ll need a discord. Leave your username with your audition! I’m looking for at least two takes so i can hear a range of emotion/intonation, any order is fine and you can do more than two. No age limit, but I myself am a minor so please be chill………as for storyboard artists, please show off examples of your work! We really need the help..
HOW LONG IS THIS EXPECTED TO LAST? My goal is for this to be a loooooong term project. Currently this project (minus the voice actors) is a two person team. StrawberryReed (details for art, scripts, extra lore/character documents, editing/animation, and managing the series), and their lovely assistant director Kingdom (manages the server, storyboards, proofreads scripts, as well as influencing character fates/ships). We’d love for this to grow big enough to earn an animated pilot or game, but in order to do that we need a team!! Being mostly done by the creator, each episode takes at LEAST several months. This show so far has 11 episodes for season 1 entirely scripted, and we’re hoping for this to be at least 3+ seasons. It is, however, unlikely the show will make it past season 2 unless the team grows bigger. NOTE AS THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE: this is an unpaid project run by a busy student. Unless the project blows up then there won’t be pay, and these things take time!
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO KNOW? I myself am a queer teen, so you gotta be chill with that! A lot of these characters are queer themselves. So I ask you to be polite! These episodes are done by very few people, so as the length of the episodes grows so will the time it takes to make them.
Last but not least- join the discord!! This series is small, but dear to my heart. We have a small community of mainly voice actors, but if you have even a semblance of interest we’d love to have you. We’ve got character concept art, a list of ALL named characters upcoming, entire documents of character lore, early access to scripts for the first season, official art, silly doodles, character full body sheets, and progress updates.
Voice Actor
Ash is the second in command to the legendary VSS Crew, the one keeping everyone safe and in line. Representing the calm beneath the storm. After flaking on their royal family to screw off with their friends, they now spend their time hopping between dimensions and fixing the problems other kingdoms make from the shadows. They’re cautious to a fault at times, wanting to protect those near and dear to them. Younger sibling to the current prince, Sai, and adopted older sibling to the current Luaars heir, Francis. Their disappearance is a massive plot point in season 2. This character won’t be appearing for a while, heads up. For voice, i’m looking for something lower and androgynous. Also they’re poly with two lovely partners, Kayla and Chiibo. Ash is AFAB but nonbinary, and has a lower pitched voice. Character references could be Maki from Jujutsu Kaisen or Mao Mao from Apothecary Diaries. They’re a hard one to reference…….give whatever you want a shot! Just lower pitched androgynous with a tinge feminine. Unlike previous characters in audition posts, this one is a lot more open to interpretation.

(Casual, nonchalant) Hey, what’s up, dorks? You all ready to head out? We gotta get going if we wanna catch the Rite of the Devoted Moon. So what if some of us are banned from that kingdom? Like they can stop me.
(Questioned about their history, wistful) Hah? What’re you talking about? I’m not royalty. Not anymore, I left that behind me long ago. I can’t go back. You guys are my home now, anyways.
(Season 2, kidnapped and held hostage) Let me go-! I’m not involved here at all! Your business with my brother has nothing to do with me, i’ve got nothing to do with this!
Voice Actor
Navar, or now disguised as Vee, is the goddess of life, peace, and creation. Out of all of the gods she’s suffered the most, after her twin sister Theria ripped her horns off in a fit of jealous rage and permanently scarred her. The goddess now lives in a state of fear and paranoia- hiding as a mortal in the world of Rinta and being the leader of the VSS Crew, hiding their base between dimensions to protect them all. Somewhat similar in personality to Ash, but while Ash is more cautious out of fear for others, Vee is more cautious out of fear for herself. In her goddess state, Navar is very tranquil, trying to keep the peace and create new life. For vocal references, look for characters like Yuzuriha from Dr Stone or Mami Tomoe from Madoka Magica. But these aren’t perfect references- Navar is a mix of calm and anxious, leaning more on the feminine side but not too high pitched. Unlike previous characters in audition posts, this one is a lot more open to interpretation. Must be okay attempting a pained scream for one episode, you don’t have to do one in your audition but it is something to consider.

(Reading a storybook to a friend, which happens to be the story of herself) Legend says the stars we see each night are the scattered remains of Theria (Theer-ia), watching over us. To this very day, her soul hunts Navar (Nuh-var) down, desperate to reunite with her sister and either make things right, or end it once and for all. We only exist because of Navar, we’re the descendants of her creations in an attempt to fill the emptiness she felt without her brother and sister.
(Casually talking to a friend) Oh shush, Chiibo (Chee-bo). I’m getting there, this isn’t just a fable, this is the story of the foundation to the world of Rinta (Reenta), our beloved home.
(Goddess self, majestically) Come forth, descendant of mine. Dear bat, you serve a purpose beyond yourself. Your destiny shall aid all of the kingdoms, should you accept my guidance.
Artist
For storyboard artists, we are looking for camera shots, poses, and positioning/interactions between characters and objects. An example of what our storyboards end up looking shall be linked below, a compilation of what a scene looks like from our storyboard artist Kingdom. Simple base poses, key elements. We really appreciate the help! Depending on how many artists we bring in, episodes will be broken up between artists to ease the workload.
