This is the first scene of an audio production of "Antigone," a Greek Tragedy by Sophocles. Its the story of a girl named Antigone [Ann-Tig-On-Nee], who defies the orders of her uncle Creon (the new king) to bury her brother Polynices. The play, then follows the conflict that arises between Antigone and Creon.

This is the the Casting for the Prologue, which includes Antigone, her sister Ismene, and a chorus of voices that act as a commentor on the story as it unfolds.
Once the Prologue is finished, it will be posted to YouTube, and auditions for Scene 1 will open.

Age range: Teen 14-17
Antigone is a strong-willed teenage girl who is fiercely loyal to her family and her beliefs, even in the face of death. She is willing to defy authority to follow her conscience.
Character note: She is also grieving the death of her two brothers.

But I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this a crime against the gods: I shall lie down with him in death, and I shall be as dear to him as he to me. I may die a criminal, but I will at least be a religious one.”

  • (ending the argument with her sister) “ Go away, Ismene: I and the dead will hate you soon, For your words are hateful. Leave me with my foolish plan”

She is more cautious and obedient to authority than her sister, and she struggles with conflicting loyalties between her family and the state.

  • (trying to remain neutral after an argument) “Go then, if you feel that you must. You are unwise, but a loyal friend indeed to those who love you.”
