Amusement - A horror radio drama
Project Overview
Amusement is a horror radio drama that delves into a dystopian future where government contractors have seized and repurposed abandoned amusement parks for AI and cloning research.
The story unfolds both through real time interactions between the two protagonists but also propaganda from the governmental radio broadcasts that piece together a world not too far off from our own.
No need to slate. Please audition in AABBCC format. Please remove dead air between takes.

Project will be posted to Youtube as part of a radio drama series.

A sassy female protagonist who is part of the collective, a nebulous resistance to the current government. She and Billy are romantically involved.

Don’t tell me to lighten up! I thought I saw something— Right there, near the carousel, under the unicorn. There was a face— No. It wasn’t part of the carousel, it was glowing and had black sunken eyes. But for some reason it had this huge toothy grin.
So, what do they look like then? (Billy points) That’s a clown. It’s probably just some park decoration. (she realizes) Oh. It has no eyes and a vertical slit in the center of its face with rows of teeth. Ok, so not a decoration. (disgusted) It’s covered in sores.
(flirtatiously) Maybe it’s the adrenaline, but your kisses feel amazing. Ohhh, please don’t stop. Can’t I have one more?
A transgender man and our male protagonist. A bit of a science nerd, Billy is calm and collected in most situations. His biggest thrill is teasing Amelia, his romantic interest.

Ah, not exactly. The created an entity that relied heavily on switching genetic expression. Actually, all humans are incredibly similar despite a few genetic variations here or there that change the phenotype or appearance of the individual. Believe it or not, race and ethnicity are artificial constructs to perpetuate inequality and exploitation. This natural similarity between humans led scientists to create the totigenome, or the genetic code that encompasses the entire human race. Combined with the fungal derived prions that can rapidly switch genetic expression, they created a creature that could rapidly recognize and mimic the phenotypic expression of any human it encountered.
I can’t believe you’d go there. You are comparing me to that THING. I thought you said I was valid. That you accepted me. Prove to me that one of them is capable of human emotion! That they can express thoughts, not just mimic others. SHOW ME they can communicate of their own accord and then I’ll consider your argument. But as of now, no known GADHIC can use speech independently.

The news reporter reinforces state propaganda, often countering a citizen's real distress with toxic positivity and callousness.
Switching between over enthusiasm to almost robot like qualities, the news reporter drives the plot along plugging in details about the descent into nationwide hellscape.

Abandoned amusement parks are creeping up all over the nation as the current recession combined with the climate crisis has rendered them unprofitable.
(Responding to a man being tortured) Remember listeners that happiness is a state of mind! It is a choice. Can you believe that some people in the world CHOOSE to be unhappy! Isn’t that crazy!

Jill is a citizen being interviewed by the News Reporter. Jill is an example of someone who the government has forcibly drugged (with Rembrance) for having empathy and questioning authority. She is diagnosed by the government as having MISS or Mental Impairment Sensory Sickness (aka a bogus diagnosis to identify and eradicate those who oppose authority).
She is like an actress in a drug commercial (Rembrance), except she becomes enthusiastically more deranged as the segment continues.

Hi, I’m Jill and I used to suffer from MISS. My family was really anxious about my involvement in propaganda put out by dangerous organizations seeking to overthrow the government.
Once I started Rembrance all my negative thoughts went away. I couldn’t remember anything. It felt good to finally not be worried anymore. Suddenly I couldn’t care less about bombs or starvation. I found myself laughing at a ladybug for hours. (Chuckles) Absolutely hysterical.
I am so full of joy. (Laughter becomes hysterical) I’M. JUST. SO. HAPPY. (Laughter turns into severe coughing) I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.

Let them know we won’t take no for an answer when it comes to the well-being of this planet! We all need a place to raise future generations and we will lose that if these selfish few prevent the military from doing what it needs to protect its citizens. Do the right thing. Choose Project Mother Earth.
Jim has been kidnapped by the government and stripped of his identity to become more "American". His voice is warm but fearful and tired.
