17776 Fan Project

17776 Fan Project

Project Overview

If you're reading this prior to the year 2026, you are extraordinarily killable.

Hello! This is a project dedicated to the science fiction work 17776 by Jon Bois. It is a story exploring identity, human desire and nature, and American football.

On the day April 7th, 2026, all of humanity will cease to be born and cease to die. All children born this day will grow into adulthood and mature no more. This story takes place just a little over 15,550 years after this event. In honor of this date looming into our future, I would like to create a fandub dedicated to this project.

The 17776 Fan Project will be compiled into a YouTube video on its own channel and uploaded on April 7th, 2026. In order to make this happen, however, a variety of voices will need to bring it to life. This is where you come in!

The requirements for this project are:

  • Please have a microphone of good quality with minimal background noise or the ability to cancel it.

  • Please be at least 18 years old. There are no children in this timeline, unfortunately.

  • Please provide preferably a Discord. If you do not have one, a Bluesky or email address can also work. Given the single-time use of this project, I intend on working with everyone individually (AKA outside of a server) or, if possible, bringing them together to work with the other people they are conversing with to try to have conversations sound natural.

  • Please have fun. It is the only thing Jon asked of us when getting his permission to go ahead with the fandub and I intend on following that condition to the letter.

You are not required to give an introduction or perform multiple takes, but you may do so if you want to.

Thank you for considering this project, and I look forward to everyone's auditions!

Latest Updates

  • Final Update

    Hi, everyone!

I've reached out to all considered actors and all roles have been filled. Thank you all SO much for auditioning - it was a blast hearing all your talented voices and I had to make some really tough decisions! This project would not be as vibrant as it will be without all of your voices to fill it.

However! This is not the end!

I am going to begin progress on the video very soon and I would really appreciate help on the technical side of things. If you or someone else you know has experience with audio, graphics, video editing, or anything else, AND have some free time on your hands, then don't hesitate to message me here on CCC or my Discord at pinkiiproxii. I feel projects on here are more likely to fall if the tech isn't there, and while I am more than capable of putting everything together, I didn't want someone to shy away if they saw that a tech role needed to be filled (since I know I would). That said, if you want to help out in that aspect, I would greatly appreciate the support.

Additionally, I do not want to jump the gun on this, so the chance is theoretical - but I am considering bundling 20020 alongside the release of the 17776 video IF production of 17776 goes well. If this happens, there will be new roles to be filled and you all will be the first to know. You'll get an update on that on this project if that happens. So if you didn't get a role this time around, you are more than welcome to try for round 2! On that note, if a role opens up for recasting, then I am going to first reach out to any other auditioners before I make a new call for that role. So keep your eyes out!

With that said, thank you all SO much again for your time, effort, and consideration for this project. It means the absolute world to me that this is getting off the ground. You'll next hear from me either for 20020 or when the video is going to be published next year. Stay safe!

  • 48 Hour Update

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to give a quick shout that I'm still alive and kicking for this project and I've been super impressed with all of the auditions that have come in!! You'll very likely hear from me on Saturday about your role or otherwise an opportunity to recast because there's plenty of characters to go around! Thank you so much again for your interest in bringing this story to life and I hope to talk to you soon!!

  • Week 1 Update

    Hi guys!

Thank you to everyone who's auditioned so far! I've been listening to them as they come in and it's been very fun. I wanted to touch on some things regarding the project:

    • I emailed Jon Bois yesterday and he said that we absolutely have his permission to go ahead with the project on the condition that we have fun while doing it (Thank you so much, Jon!!). This makes having fun a requirement. Any no-fun-havers should seek other projects to be in.

    • I'm planning on doing the bulk of the video creation myself and I have a couple friends who said they'd be happy to contribute to some of the audio. If you want to help out in a way that isn't just a character, just let me know.

    • For the video chapters, I'm transcribing a script for the probes. Otherwise, the script will be available on the SB Nation pages.

    • Before casting, I'm waiting to see where everyone's interests are. I may get in contact with you past the deadline if I think you'd potentially be a good fit for another character.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions if you have them. Thanks, everyone!

Pioneer 9

Unpaid
Role assigned to: shawncolumbo

The main character of the story. Appears in Chapters 1, 3, 5, 7, 9-11, 13, 15-17, 21-23, and 25. Pioneer 9 is a sentient space probe constructed in the United States with an admittedly watered-down personality as it has just come into consciousness when the story takes place. It is extremely curious, albeit apprehensive, about the state of its existence and the world at large. Has a large amount of lines. This character uses swear words, so please be comfortable with doing so.

As Pioneer 9 is undecided on any gender or pronouns, androgynous voices may suit this role best. However, also because of this state, this means that any voice is welcome to audition for this role.

  • It's hard to explain. I would say I have so many questions, but I'm not even at that point yet. I don't know what questions to ask. I don't know what this is. I don't understand where I am. Is where the word? Is this a where sort of deal?

  • You have to get me out of here! You have to get me off this thing! I'm not supposed to be here! I'm trapped on uh, hold on, I'll get the coordinates, I'm at

  • I'm sure they can go faster than that, though. They could figure it out. They went from winged flight to space travel in 60 years.

Role assigned to: PhiVi

A supporting character of the story. Appears in Chapters 1, 3, 5, 7, 9-14, 17, 19, 21-23, and 25. Pioneer 10 is a sentient space probe constructed in the United States with a steady yet younger-sounding personality, yet can come off as a bit heady. Has a large amount of lines. This character uses swear words, so please be comfortable with doing so.

As Pioneer 10 is decided to be female, feminine voices may suit this role best.

  • Frank Gifford was calling that game. On the broadcast he says at one point, "I'm going to take a bite of my coffee." Always thought that was funny.

  • You can take all the time you need to. I know you have a lot of questions. I bet I can answer most of them for you. In the meantime, I think it'd be a good idea for you to sit back and process. We've got all the time in the world to talk.

  • Humanity could have advanced it if it wanted to. In fact, it did. Almost everything you thought they would invent, they did. Flying cars, buildings that build themselves, jets that can take you from Arkansas to Paris in five minutes. You don't see any of those things because people didn't want them.

  • OK so it's July 2nd, 17776. We are in ... we are just about a mile east of Seward, Nebraska, driving eastbound on McKelvie Road. We're following Wyoming running back Nancy McGunnell, who is now about 82, 83 percent of the way across the state.

  • OK so for everybody who's just tuning in, Nancy McGunnell is about 25 miles into a run-- dude, don't point it at me! The twister, look at the twister!

  • And there are a couple things about that. She obviously could have been thrown in any direction. So maybe she's upfield somewhere near Highway 34, or maybe she landed backwards near Seward. Although so far, nobody in Seward has reported seeing her.

  • So ... this would have been in the 13,500s. Because, yes, I was apartment-shopping in Seattle. So sometime around then. I was single at the time, so I was just looking for a one-bedroom. But like a real one-bedroom, you know how landlords are always listing studio apartments as one-bedrooms.

  • And you know what was even weirder, was when I went back and looked up my old photos from when I lived there before. It was unreal, seeing myself in the same living room from 6,000 years ago. It was like looking like a ghost. I couldn't decide whether it was more scary or funny, because obviously, you looked at my wardrobe and it was clear, I had some serious 7100s going on.

  • Who was it who said, uh, "even if life is forever, each moment of it is a miracle?" I think that's just something we tell ourselves. We're just ordinary and forever, I think. There's a leveling out that happens if you live forever and ever without anything to lose.
