Lord above forgive me.... Ruffus is one of a pair of men who I have been hesitating to cast... The reason being that they speak rather.... I sort of blatantly take from a stereotype. I know people will find it racist but I've already developed enough dialogue that I can't go back on their traits.

To clarify, Ruffus and his 'dawg' Maverick talk like.... yknow what? I'm not gonna say it, the way I wrote the dialogue speaks for itself.

Ruffus and Mav own a gym together and they live in Oakland. Nuff said.

Note: Just came to me a minute ago. Franklin and Lamar, GTAV. Theres the idea. And yes, I know I'm going to hell for this as well as many other things.

  • Ruffus: Just you around, Shorty?

Erica: What's it to you? And if you call me that again, I'll rip your arms off…

Ruffus: Damn girl! No need to be hostile! Just payin’ a pretty lady a compliment.

  • Ruffus: C’mon my man. I know you ain't livin’ in that house with that fine young thang just to be friends. But a skinny twig like you needs ta’ work on ya’ masculine form. Be an alpha male, baby. Get some muscle and show her who's boss!

Andy: You spoke to the same girl I'm thinking of right? She seem the type to respond well to an ‘alpha male’?

Ruffus: Truth, truth…. But is she the type ta’ turn down a well toned playa? You work out some, go from zero ta’ hero, she's all yours.

  • Ruffus: Yo, my name's Ruffus.

Doc: Mine uz Francis. You may call me Doc.

    Ruffus: A doctor, ey?

    Doc chuckled at this.

    Doc: Barred from practice.

He entered and Ruffus stood there thinking for a moment.

Ruffus: This twig has some weird friends…

Not too bad, you seem to be... what's the word.. ? Pronouncing too clearly. Ruffus and his dawg are shameless stereotypes. Slur a bit. (Addendum; Al wasn't clear enough for my tastes so I'm putting my 2-cents in. When he says "Its a stereotype, slur a bit." He means, only a BIT. Its satirical but not openly offensive. Thanks for the audition. - J, 9th PR)

So, a bit more southern in the accent or a bit more upper east coast (Brooklyn and the like)? I can definitely do the southern, though I am not confident in my Brooklyn accent without getting horribly cartoony.

The Southern would do. Remember what J said, only a bit. Dont over do it. This would fit nicely with some slurring to the words but not mushmouth. -Alan 9th life Writer
