This particular scene is set in Joel's first apartment. Ella arrives home from a trip to the grocery store. She sounds overwhelmed and exhausted as she sets down her keys and begins to put away groceries. Her tone should shift sharply to frustration as soon as she glances at Joel sitting on the couch and taking generous sips from a bottle of whiskey, like this is a  problem Joel has dealt with throughout their relationship. Line 2 should be spoken as if you were face to face with him instead of across the room as this will be the point where it begins to dawn on the viewer that this isn't reality and instead a terrible nightmare he's about to wake from. This line should be conveyed in a more desperate tone.
