Hey Lexa!

Thank you for sending the second recording. I really liked what you did with it, and I'd like to hear one final callback for Marisol Tennant.

This time I'm less interested in hearing a polished “SWAT voice.” I want to hear Marisol herself. She's warm, sarcastic, compassionate, and very human, but when something goes wrong she can immediately become calm and authoritative.

Please keep your natural voice. Don't try to make yourself sound deeper or tougher for the character.

I'd like to hear these:

1 — Talking to a frightened Emily

“Hey. Look at me for a second.”

“You don't have to tell me everything at once.”

“Just breathe and tell me who's still inside.”

“Okay. That's enough. You did good.”

2 — Talking to Daniel

“Daniel, I'm Marisol.”

“I'm not coming through that door. I'm staying right here.”

“You don't have to trust me yet. Just keep talking to me.”

“Whatever happened tonight, we can deal with it after you come outside.”

“I need you to give me the chance to get everybody through this safely.”

3 — The situation suddenly changes

“Jack, hold.”

“Daniel, listen to my voice.”

“Don't make any sudden movements.”

“Keep your hands where I can see them.”

“That's it. Stay with me.”

4 — Daniel finally comes out

“Good. Nice and slow.”

“Keep looking at me.”

“You're doing fine.”

“Two more steps.”

“Right there. Stop.”

“Good. It's over.”

5 — Marisol being Marisol around the team

KOVAL:I was helping.

TENNANT:“No, you were talking. Those are different things.”

KOVAL:That's hurtful.

TENNANT:“You'll recover.”

6 — Completely casual Tennant

Imagine the call is over, the adrenaline is gone, and she's just talking to people she knows.

“Anybody getting food after this?”

“Because if the answer is no, I'm reconsidering every friendship I have on this team.”

Feel free to record more than one take of anything you want to experiment with.

The biggest thing I'm listening for is range without changing who Tennant is. I want the woman joking with Koval to still clearly sound like the same woman who can calmly talk somebody through the worst night of their life.

Thanks again, Lexa. I'm really looking forward to hearing this one.

Marisol Tennant is a major character in BLUE HOUR: Sacramento and a member of Sacramento Metro SWAT.

Marisol is in her early 30s and originally from Kentucky. She is capable, intelligent, compassionate, and quick-witted. Despite working in a high-stress tactical environment, she should sound like a real person—not a stereotypical tough female cop or military character.

We are looking for a natural, conversational female performance with strong emotional range. A natural or convincing Kentucky/Southern accent is preferred, but it should be subtle and believable rather than exaggerated.

Marisol can move between joking with teammates, calmly communicating with people in crisis, and taking decisive action when a situation becomes dangerous. Her warmth is an important part of the character.

Performance style: grounded, intimate, realistic and cinematic. Natural pauses, breaths, imperfections and emotional reactions are welcome. Please avoid an announcer, radio-commercial, or exaggerated “cop” delivery.

This is a major recurring character, beginning with the FIRST LIGHT playable demo.

Voice description:
  • female adult
The sides they read from:
  • You know you could just ask for help, right? You don't have to make everything harder than it already is.

  • Daniel? Hey, my name's Marisol. I'm not here to hurt you. Just talk to me for a second, okay? Tell me what's going on.

  • Koval, hold! I've got movement inside. Ray, watch the hallway. Nobody moves until we know what we're looking at.
