Alien: Solara. An audio drama.
growat for John
John is the SYNTH custodian of the USCSS Solara, a privately owned commercial ship. It is his duty to keep the ship and crew in stasis safe until they arrive at their destination. John is a very old synth, a spinoff of the David line, only a different appearance and slightly more advanced. He was a prototype that eclipsed David, but he was ultimately deemed far too "Human", much like his David series brothers. Though he may be old, his abilities are more advanced than even the somewhat new Bishop series. He sounds young, but has an old "soul".
Weekly report of USCSS Solara, private commercial vessel under contract to Weyland-Yutani corporation. October 1st, 2180. Deployment of alpha communication relay beacons is complete. Company employees in stasis for delivery to the gold mines on Plutus are in perfect health. No further information of relevance. John, ships custodian, signing off.
It is not necessary to inform me of minutia, I am aware of our scheduled deployments.
Wow, that's a voice ya got there. Worthy of pay I can't give. Damn good audition. I can't make any final choices, but this is a tough call.
Love that Xenomorph.

Sweet. Is that distortion from 0:12-0:20 intentional?
I get it. Outside the ship to inside the ship. Nice.
Yeah. Transmitting into the void. I just haven't found a good rocket engine sound effect yet to convey outside the ship.
I guess this is interior? https://youtu.be/U4p1mZnKkhc
No, I used sound effects from Alien Isolation.
I was wondering if that was suitable engine noise, but the beeps make it seem more like interior.
Ah. I might use it when I start actual work. I have no shortage of effects to use though.
Ok, here's how I see it. John has to skew younger, but this was a very, very tough choice. I think I hear your voice as Mr. Deckard, a Synth like John and potential villain. I started writing him keeping the voice you did in mind as I pictured him. Not to say you wouldn't make a great John, but I got you stuck in my head as Deckard. Would you be willing to try the lines for him?
Sure thing. Re. the audition lines: his synth identity is hidden in the first, but not in the second, correct?
Well, it's not something that's brought up right away, but he drops hints he's not Human. In the second you clearly get a hint he's not very fond of his creators, but you don't know he's a synth for sure just because he doesn't like people.
