Role assigned to: Tiffany Witcher

The role is a woman who is roughly age 26 of Native descent (for this reason, I want to cast a woman of color for her role. It is a voice role so you won't be seen, but representation matters.) The closest ethnicities I can think of to hers within the Edelweiss universe are south Asian and Native American since they are where I got inspiration for the culture she was born into. However, she has a lot of distance from her heritage as she was abandoned at a young age. She is very articulate, even when she is drunk, and I have always envisioned her having a somewhat androgynous tone. Like I said, she is an alcoholic, so I will need someone who can perform that without going overboard.

Wolf has soft, dark hair and skin the color of hazelnuts. She doesn't remember anything before she woke up in a town when she was seven years old. She sometimes has dreams of who she assumes is her mother, but when she wakes up, her head throbs. Wolf is extraordinarily intelligent and logistical, but isn't aware of how much. She is often seen as cold by her programmers. She is harsh to them, but only because she sees the underground city as her reason to live and doesn't understand why others don't.

As far as accent goes, her character history matters. Wolf was abandoned in an overground town when she was 7 years old. She doesn't remember what her mother sounds like. She would have developed an accent for the town she was begging in, and that would have mixed with the accent of the underground city. My mental picture is a faded British accent, but the reason I selected "any" is because I really want this open to the voice actor's interpretation. We can work more on Wolf's voice together when I can individually answer your questions and go more into detail, but accent isn't something I am really listening for in auditions.

I don't mind casting younger, but you must be over 18. The role isn't pornographic (though there is sexual content), but I am going to be diving into some serious issues and getting in trouble with someone's parents is the last thing I want to deal with. There will be horror elements and serious issues I want to explore, so you cannot be squeamish. You may get little to no warning before getting these scripts (more than likely, knowing me, you will definitely get some warning). This isn't meant to scare you. I just want to give as much information as I can head on.

As far as how much the story deals with Wolf's ethnicity - there will be racist characters she encounters, but I don't plan, don't need, and don't want to use any slurs or severe hate speech. She encounters more discrimination based on the fact that she wasn't born in the underground city than anything, which is an important part of the plot. Her ethnicity itself is an important part of her, but not a crucial part of her that I need to call out or tokenize every 10 words. She is just a character who happens to have dark skin and heritage in the tribes of the overworld. Later in the series, she will find her mother and will learn more about her heritage, but we won't get into this in early recordings.

  • I have caught myself wondering if we, in the underground city, are a different type of human than in Eskor, above-ground. If we were reprogrammed as soon as we step foot here. Or were born here? Well, I’m sure those who were born here are more programmed than I am.

I hope...I hope I was reprogrammed, even slightly. Updated even.. I don’t want to be the girl scrounging for loose crystals on the cobblestone streets. I remember her hands that touched the shit-covered walls. They can’t be the same hands that touch the holograms, that type the codes in for the Pomparthian Database, that lead the encryption department of the city. These are new hands.

  • The gamekeeper held my head up as Henry swallowed the contents of the glass in a smooth, singular motion. I realized Henry had done this before. I was still held for a moment as we waited to see if Henry would die, then the gamekeeper threw me to the stony cobblestones. “Drink one.”

I had to think fast. I thought about sound. I thought about where the dribbles I heard earlier were coming from. All four corners of my mind were screaming. Calm down, I told them. Give me something. I remembered that the droplet sounds came from the left. I had heard a rat scurrying from my left side. The glasses were arranged in a triangle. I already drank one from the right side. Henry drank one from the bottom. I had to make a choice—and I hear the rat’s feet again. The rat was scurrying away from the alley while the gamekeeper was dripping the poison into one of the glasses. His feet tapped toward my feet, and then pittered away into the city.

So I select the top glass.

I could say I didn’t hear anything as I drank it, but I did. I heard the chattering of birds on top of the building to the east of us. They were two buildings away on the south waste pipe.

I don’t know how I suddenly remembered how to feel sounds. But that was the biggest idea I had so far of where I came from. If I made it out of this, maybe sounds would lead me home. If I had one.

            They wouldn’t.

I put down the empty glass and topple over, the ale from the first glass starting to reach my head.

Henry picks up another glass to the left. It is one of the two I am sure has the poison in it. I hold my breath, almost wanting to tell him to stop, but he drinks it.

We don’t have to wait long. Henry starts coughing up heavy saliva before he finishes his glass. The glass explodes into shards on the cobblestones. The sound of it hurts my ears, because it is the shattering sound of a person’s fear dying with them.

I had been thinking, and thinking, and thinking, and churning and panicking so much that I forgot the most crucial part of the game: if I lived, Henry had to die.
