The biggest role of the lot is the narrator, and as such it's the one I'll be the fussiest with. You will need a calm voice and an easy-going pace that's pleasant to listen to. Don't rush it, but don't drag it out. It'd be really handy if you're quite used to listening to audiobooks. You're the one the listeners will be hearing the most, but mind you don't steal the show!
A note had been carved into the wood of his desk sometime last night, hidden beneath trinkets and ancient devices for him to discover this morning. It said, "See you soon." The words filled Hadrian's head, unavoidable, as though the very etchings had found a way to scream.
The wind gripped his tower and shook as violently as a child with a snow globe. Hadrian didn't like children. Didn't like wind either, and especially hated rain when it was as heavy as the pellets that struck his window with force enough to crack the glass.
Her hair was coming through in meringues of wiry white, and her husband's had gone but for close-cut grey bristles. The both of them were as wrinkly as the leather bags she had admired back in her youth, and they woke with torsos bent closer to the ground with every day that passed.
