Anamnesis: Ballad of a Memory Thief: The Pilot Episode
Jae-in Hwan for Winter Aravind (CLOSED)
Winter Aravind/The Rectifier - Ideally looking for an actress of South Asian descent. This character will sing in future episodes, and therefore preference is given to VA’s who can act and sing, though this is not strictly necessary (we could find someone else to do the singing parts).
Silver’s rebellious 17 year old daughter who has inherited her memory thieving powers from her father. Though she promises Silver in the first episode that she won’t steal a memory, future episodes reveal that she breaks that promise almost immediately. This character does not have a huge role in episode 1, but is another main character and will have a massive role in the rest of the series. In future episodes, she becomes The Rectifier - a gritty vigilante who steals people’s traumatic memories to free them from their pain, and then bears those memories (burdens) as her own. This leads to her losing herself. Please do a line reading of both parts. Episode 2 will be from her point of view (from a narration and musical standpoint). 12 lines in episode 1.
Episode 1 Line Read: Winter is naive and young here, and I want the child that she is to shine through in the performance.
SILVER
Hey Wynn, I’m home.
SFX: WYNN RUNNING DOWN THE STAIRS
SILVER (V.O.)
My daughter bounded down the stairs. I envied her energy.
SILVER
Whoa there! Be careful!
WINTER laughs.
WINTER
You’re old! You’re the one who needs to worry about that.
SILVER lets out a mock gasp.
SILVER
I’m not that old!
SILVER (V.O.)
I embraced her tightly. She was all I had left.
WINTER
Were you visiting Mom again?
SILVER sighs deeply.
SILVER
Yeah.
WINTER
Want to talk about it?
SILVER
I’m fine Wynn. I’m honestly surprised you’re taking this as well as you are.
WINTER
I guess she just never cared for me that much before...what happened.
SILVER
She was your mother Wynn! I know she wasn’t always there for you, but she tried damnit!
WINTER
I suppose.
The Rectifier Line Read: In this line reading which is from a much later episode in the series, Winter has completely lost herself and the persona of The Rectifier has taken over completely. Keep that in mind, and try to give her a darker, grittier, creepy persona mixed with elements of that childlike whimsy. Think of Jinx from Arcane.
VICTIM: Don’t come any closer!
THE RECTIFIER: Do not be afraid, I am only here to help.
VICTIM: I’ve heard about you. I’ve heard what you do. You break minds.
THE RECTIFIER: I free minds. I free them of their pain, their sorrow, their trauma. Anything that holds them back.
VICTIM: But I’m perfectly fine. Never felt better.
THE RECTIFIER: You can’t hide from me. I see it in your eyes. You’re a broken soul just like the rest of them.
VICTIM: No I’m not.
THE RECTIFIER: I can fix you. Put those pieces back where they belong. You can be whole again.
VICTIM: I am fine as I am. I don’t want this.
THE RECTIFIER: hums a twisted little tune. She starts walking towards him.
VICTIM: No. don’t come near me. Go away. Please. I’ll give you anything. Wait. Stop. I’m not ready. No. What are you doing. No! I can’t…
THE RECTIFIER touches his temples and the man lets out an ear piercing shriek. As she finishes, the man’s body falls to the floor, still alive, but just barely.
THE RECTIFIER: There there. It’s all over now. You’re free.
