I'm feeling you're a bit too monotone with the lines. At the first line, you feel as though you're the hero in this situation. When you're saying "I've got to do something." I want to feel like you believe you're the ONLY ONE who can. On the second line, almost sound nefarious. By this point, you have a few screws loose because you're made to believe your efforts are the only thing saving these people and the numbers keep increasing. The weight on your shoulders have grown, but seeing them makes you feel that what you are doing is worthwhile in some manner. On the third, I want to hear the utmost terror in your voice. You are being confronted by a group that is half willing to kill you with the first incentive. You're genuinely trying to plead with them not to harm you. Lemme hear it.
