She's Probably Dead: An Audio Drama Series
AdamP for Steven 'Ste' Evans
Ste Evans is a 30-something year old man. He's a teacher and a father, specifically the father of the missing girl- Bowie. He is Jean's legal guardian, with whom he has a complicated relationship. The two constantly butt heads, for reasons we don't know of yet. After the divorce of his wife and her taking custody of their 6 year old son, Ste seems to have been a shell of himself. His life nowadays is dedicated to making sure Jean is okay. Ste can be the goofy, awkward, dad-joke teller or he can be stone-faced serious and kind of scary. There's not much of an inbetween.
Jean, I know I’m not your dad. Which means it’s okay for me to tell you that you’re being a twat. Listen, mate. I know you miss her, I do too. Chris left me, took Woody with her and now she’s gone too-
Right. So, the beginning of this chapter, we see news headlines reporting the potential kidnap and murder of Esther. Though of course we, the reader, know of her suicide attempt. These headlines symbolize Esther’s exposure, her effect on others, and the gap between Esther’s interpretation of experiences and the world’s interpretation of them.
God, why does everyone look so damn sluggish? Where’s the enthusiasm to learn?
