Role assigned to: MartinBeadle

We have a very specific style of delivery we're looking for with this character, he is a very similar type of character to the 'Curator' in the Dark Anthology trilogy (for reference, please see this sample of the character). https://youtu.be/mM9t5zyjjxI?t=334

Nol is initially introduced to the player as a 'humble storyteller', who is telling the story 'with the player's help'...it is a story from the world where he lives... He is meant to be seen as kind, helpful and very supportive, reassuring and warm, giving the player no indication that anything is strange or unusual and he is just telling you the story and you alone, will impact on the outcome.

It is later revealed that he is infact the decider of fates in the world and knows all of the stories outcomes...and is also aware of all of the choices that you can and have made in previous runs, he will also be progressively more judgemental of the play style of the player if they continue to make poor choices. He will never be rude, abrupt or dismissive of the decisions...but will most likely have some form of 'opinion on them'. It is never stated 'what species' he is an whether he has any alliance to any of the characters (but he does not, though he seems to prefer outcomes where the Fae come out on top, or the 'true' ending of the game). He sits outside of the world and knows things about the 'world' of the player...which is not the same as the world of the game.

Nol is all-knowing, but not as supportive as you would hope, there is a slightly sense of unease once his true nature is revealed and a definite sense of reluctance in trusting his commentary after a certain point.

Nol could have a well spoken British accent, we're looking for something smooth and easy on the ear...the dissonance of his comfortable and confident delivery against his obviously dubious advice should make the player feel a little uneasy...especially in endings where he is reading about the death of characters as if they are only in a 'story', when it is clear he is in the same world as they are most of the time. Refined and sophisticated is what we're looking for 😊

  • Welcome, my name is Nol, and I am the guardian of stories, it’s my duty to see that all the tales that are told here reach their natural conclusion… whatever that may be. (Superficially very friendly...but final part 'whatever that may be' has a slight sense of discomfort around it).

  • A writer from your world once said that ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…’, yet Driscol had failed to show his love to Angelus in this way… “Perhaps, it’s time to try something different”, he thought to himself as brandished a pair of scissors menacingly. (Nol speaks directly to the player as if he knows them quite well and he is teaching them some form of cultural lesson...he does not imitate the accent of 'Driscol' in any way, but because Driscol is quite an unhinged character, he would add a slightly different overly cheery expression to his quote' and then revert to his more usual tone of voice).

  • I haven’t been completely transparent with you, and because of this, you feel that you can’t trust anything I tell you from now on...perhaps apply that same level of scepticism to the creatures in this tale (Nol has revealed himself to be a 'smiling knife' at this point, he has lied to you throughout the game, but still maintains a polite facade, as if nothing has changed at all...but the player can sense an arrogance in his words, as if he knows the outcome and the player does not).

Hi Avie1987, Thank you so much for taking the time to audition for the role of Nol. We enjoyed your audition and our only feedback was around the speed of the delivery of the script. We felt for this role, a little slower and a more deliberate reading would have enhanced his role as a narrator rather than a character in the story. However, as with all of your performances, we enjoyed listening and thought the quality of the sound and acting was excellent. Thank you once again for auditioning for this role and I wish you luck in your future auditions. Kind Regards, Sazzle04
