Megami Ibunroku Persona [Comic Dub]
GeoffButlerVA for Philemon
Philemon is a mysterious figure in the Persona universe. He serves as our party's guide and mentor, being the one to bestow upon them their Personas. He resides in a place "between consciousness and unconsciousness", not being able to directly interact with the human realm. His demeanour is calm, soothing and gentle, with some natural angelic charisma. Throughout the story, he tries to guide the party towards their ultimate goal, giving them peace of mind whenever possible and understanding of alien situations when necessary. Philemon believes in the good of humanity, believing that all humans have the potential to do good. His job, as he sees it, is giving them the tools to do so.
In the game, he's voiced by Travis Willingham, giving a wisened, intelligent delivery, and is the only character to be voice acted in almost every appearance. Examples include his introduction scene (https://youtu.be/iXZFs8uq-co) and his warning of the future (https://youtu.be/CB6ik17itnc). It should be said while Travis' range is rather akin to an adult's lower voice, Philemon is an entity with a fluid appearance, and his voice can range from a knowledgable young teacher to a wisened older mentor, so don't shy on auditioning for this as long as your mannerisms can replicate something among the classic mentor archetype.
Welcome. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Philemon, a dweller between consciousness and unconsciousness. Can you state your name?
Philemon calmly welcomes the party into his realm. He acts as a calm, soothing man to help them relax from the shock of their situation.Tell me this, are you aware of the many and varied selves you harbor within you? The self suffused with divine love? The self capable of demonic cruelty? People live by wearing different masks. Your current self may be only one of those innumerable masks.
Philemon explains the concept of "Persona" to the party, not as a mysterious superpower but manifestations of parts of themselves they have to confront. he's acting as a collected mentor, teaching them what their power means. What you have borne witness to is but another side to the power of "Persona". That young man was merely unable to restrain his other-self, a matter which resulted in him being dominated by his very own power. His heart was weak, and as such, his outburst is understandable and worthy of forgiveness.
Philemon snaps the party back to his realm in order to make them aware of the other facets of their power. He's showing a more compassionate, loving side while still remaining collected and focused.
