Riko is a modest, down-to-earth second-year transfer student from Akihabara's Otonokizaka Girls' Academy. She was a young pianist, but somehow stopped and moved to Numazu so she could 'feel' the sea. She has a fear of dogs, despite that the Takami family's dog, Shiitake, seems to take an interest to her. She also is revealed to have an interest in various shōjo and yuri manga, often buying collections on her brief returns to Tokyo. After joining Aqours, she becomes the composer of the group.

That being said, I haven't been a student here very long. I'm a fresh transfer from Otonokizaka High.
Ever heard of Otonokizaka? It's a high school in Tokyo that's famous as the birthplace of the school idol group μ's.
Oh, but don't think I'm some kind of trendy city girl. It's just the opposite. I'm quite plain. As you can probably tell.
Sure, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to singing and dancing, but I'll make up for it by busting my butt at each and every rehearsal.
In all truth though, I'm still a little unsure about whether or not a girl like me can become a school idol.
