Women Who Try To Kill You: A Ninjago Audio Drama

Women Who Try To Kill You: A Ninjago Audio Drama

Project Overview

A cinematic Ninjago: Dragons Rising audio drama.

When Lloyd and his new students take a "shortcut" through a supposedly cursed forest, they find themselves hopelessly lost until a legendary face from Lloyd’s past emerges from the shadows. What starts as a survival mission quickly turns into an awkward, emotional reunion between two old allies who haven't seen each other since the Merge.

Based on the original work by ParachutingKitten on Ao3.

The legendary Green Ninja, now a Master. He’s a hero who has seen it all, but he’s currently a bit out of his element. He is protective of his students but easily flustered when confronted with his past (specifically Akita)

  • Trust me, the last thing you want is your teacher keeping things from you

  • I thought I was taking you on the Forbidden Path. You do know that’s not better, right?

  • Well, when you put it like that it sounds really bad!

Originally from the Never-Realm, Akita is a "Formling" (shapeshifter) who survived the cataclysmic "Merge" alone. She is now a scout living in an abandoned fishing village. She is fierce, survival-oriented, and doesn't suffer fools though she has a soft spot for Lloyd Garmadon. She hides her grief over losing her brother and her people behind a sharp, teasing wit and a "warrior" exterior.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • Loss is unavoidably painful, and I am not immune to pain. But giving up hope is the coward’s way out. It means you’ve decided you will no longer fight. And I am no coward

  • Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s caused you much more distress than it ever has me. Given your romantic history and all

  • I have to say, being here with you again… I get it.

A tech-savvy student who is much more skeptical than Arin. She isn't easily impressed by "cursed forests" or "legendary missions." She’s the first to notice when Lloyd is lost or acting weird

  • You sure you know where we’re going? This doesn’t really seem like a trail anymore

  • You are gonna let us hang out with the cool wolf-lady, right?

  • A new-generation ninja student. He is incredibly enthusiastic and a bit of a historian when it comes to the "old legends." He recognizes Akita immediately from the stories he’s heard.

    • I might have preferred the main path if it had less of a creepy forest vibe than this one

    • This is the girl from the Never-Realm! Does this mean she’s the one that-

    • He’s been training us to be ninja! I already taught myself the basics of spinjitzu, but it’s awesome having a teacher!

  • Even when describing something "ominous" or "sinister," there should be a sparkle in the voice. Like he knows something the characters don't.

  • Use lots of emphasis on descriptive words like "Too straight. Too barren. Too… something." * The Vibe: Energetic and legendary. He makes the world feel big and important, but he’s approachable.

    • No one could quite pin down what was wrong with the trees around them. They were too straight. Too barren. Too… something. It was as if they had somehow noticed a change about this place which they had no familiarity with

    • Perhaps it was just the overcast day and the subtle winds which made the wood seem so ominous, or perhaps there was something more sinister going on. Either way, the feeling between the group was palpable- they were lost

    • The three stood in silence for a moment, listening for the sound to come again. It was hard to discern through the light winds humming through the branches, but it was there: the sound of living movement
