When The Moon Lied
Project Overview
When The Moon Lied is a short, 9 episode animated series with a total run time of 45-50 minutes. The story is a twist on the classic Hero vs Villain tale, toying with the concept, “What if the hero and villain were best friends?”.
Created by GoldenDog studios, the team behind the Hidden in the Walls Audio Show and the producer of LOST, this story is one of exploration, experimentation, and pushing the limits of what a small team can accomplish without funding.
The story follows our protagonist, Cherry, as she fights for the love she’s always desired.
In this world, powers are an oddity. Not quite rare, though not the standard of normal. To have an ability deemed ‘dangerous’ is enough to be outcasted from normal society by a group titled “Threat Management.” Initials ‘T.M’ find their way on nearly every trap, every lock, and every method to keep those with powers out. Cherry and Crescent are two close friends whom have spent their entire lives living this exile for their unfavorable abilities. Cherry responds by wanting to change herself for the world’s affection, and Crescent wants to destroy it. Unfortunately, the world chose to destroy her, first. Cursing her with a condition that causes her fade from existence slowly.
This terrifies Cherry, wanting to save her best friend and the world from her best friend all at the same time. The two attempt to balance their friendship with their ever conflicting goals throughout the story.
When Cherry meets a private group intending to save the world from Crescent’s plans, she is forced to hide the truth about her friendship, Crescent’s condition, and her powers.

Cherry is our protagonist, and as such is one of the most important characters in the series! She has a lot of lines, and due to circumstance, her first episode is due within a week of being selected. All other lines will be given a month to complete. Communication is vital to this role and I will ensure that all necessary information is given.
Cherry is a sarcastic, mildly sassy and fake-confident character. She is deeply infested with guilt and self-loathing, however her personality deems that not to come out until she begins falling apart in the later episodes.
Her voice is a medium pitch female voice. Extremely high emotional range necessary and an understanding of emotion in tonal quality.

Ilene -
The mother of C.C, and the leader of the world saving group. She is headstrong and a quick thinker, being the lead strategist of the group and keeping everyone afloat. She founded the group because she didn’t want her son to grow up in a destroyed world. She has hope for future generations to thrive and speaks with very disciplined and formal language.
Female, mature voice but motherly. Sharp with her commands, still calm. Preferred but not required is an English/British accent.
Don’t be too quiet with her since she is very commanding and a strong presence.

Cherry, you are after something that cannot be measured nor promised.
Oh thank heavens, where are you two?
Innocent children forced to grow in a dangerous word. Is that what you want?
This is a very major character.
Crescent:
Calm, controlled, and intelligent. Crescent hates the world for rejecting her and her only true friend, Cherry. She is the antagonist of this series, however she is very close with Cherry (our protagonist). Crescent’s intention is to remake the work for herself and Cherry by freezing it in time so as to stop anyone from destroying them.
Crescent has 3 abilities.
1. She can detect fear. She uses this to physiologically manipulate those around her and will take every chance she gets to mention when someone is afraid.
2. She can become invisible for short bursts of time when she is not speaking.
3. She can learn all the worst things that have happened to an individual by making eye contact with them for longer than a few seconds.
She is manipulative with a clear, smooth voice and a cutting edge to her tone. Her voice should match her cynical nature.

Catcher/ often referred to as ‘Catch’
Catcher is more introverted than the others; he joined the group as a distraction from his grieving. He had initially lost his daughter to illness (Cherry reminds him of her) and needs something to feel noble and important. He’s guarded but becomes very fond of the protagonist (Cherry) and the rest of the group. Catcher is generally kind hearted, but does not like sentimental or emotional interactions.
Should have a kind voice with a bit of roughness to it. Not a ton, but a bit.

I will provide storyboards and color palates with an example of the environment’s lighting. As a background artist, you would create and work on backgrounds for a portion of the series’ scenes. You would be granted access to the production team’s server and obtain your own role as a background artist. If you don’t want to join the production team server, there are options for quiet servers (few people who don’t speak in server) or Solo servers (just you in a server) Canvas sizes will be specified upon acceptance.
No Specific software required. Any art program works. Please include whatever you would like to for this audition (even if it is an audio sample explaining what you like to make background for and your style).
