Hello folks! Welcome to "What If This Was Dubbed" a project me and a small team are creating. The goal is to give games that never had a dub a professional grade one. This time around we're tackling The World Ends With You.
So for those who are unfamiliar with this game I'll fill you in. The World Ends With You is a Nintendo DS game that came out in 2007 and was later ported to Andriod and iOS devices in 2012 and 2014. The story follows a teen named Neku Sakuraba as he unwillingly participates in "The Reaper Games" where he must complete daily missions and solve the mystery of how he came to be in "The Reaper Games" and just what is this almost sadistic game he has been forced into. We'll be focusing on the reboot, also known as The World Ends With You -Solo Remix-.
Rules for auditions
1. Mic quality is an absolute must. I'm a stickler for quality and even though this is a Fandub I'm treating it like it's a pofessional dub. So no background noise, static, pops, hits, scratches, peaking, all those nasty things.
2. You MUST be dedicated. If you're part of the main cast I warn you now that you're making a pretty big commitment. The scripts are 20+ pages long and the main characters like Neku and Shiki have over 100 lines each in the first script and almost 200 in the second.
3. You're going to need to handle direction since you will be working with a director to get the best perfomance out of you. So this also means you're going to need a skype account for recording sessions.
4. If you don't see a character, I'm simply not casting them yet, in time I'll be casting the entire cast but for now I'm only doing a handful of the characters.
5. Relax and just go with it. If you can handle the first 3 rules just give it a go! Even though we treat this like it's the offical dub we're here because we're fans of the game and want to have a good time making a great dub~
Alright folks, it's time for the round one auditions to come to a conclusion. First off I'd like to thank each and every one of you who auditioned! Vocal Range: Medium high - Gender Neutral
Rhyme is always wearing a smile and is kind to everyone she meets. Always the optimistic and reasonable one. Rhyme manages to keep everyone organized when she's around. Her young and pure heart is impossible to hate. While Rhyme is in fact a girl she is easily mistaken as a young boy so a gender neutrual voice is optimal for her.
(cheerful) Come one Beat, say hello! Two heads are better than one, so four has got to be even better!
(Slightly sad) Beat, you said you’d work on being nicer to strangers.
(Pleading) Beat! Stop it! They’re not reapers!

Voice Type: Medium
Neku is antisocial. Claiming that he "Doesn't get people" Neku usually dislikes interacting with others, feeling that friends only drag him down. Neku sees society as an annoyance that forces it's values onto others, pesters him, and expects him to do things he'd rather not do. Neku naturally talks fairly quietly to himself. A lot of his emotions are subtle, often covering them with an annoyed tone of voice. Keep in mind he also has a slight "Ebonics" accent to him. For reference look at Aaron Pauls Jesse Pinkman in breaking bad to get the accent.
(Flustered and annoyed) Who needs friends! They just laugh and talk like idiots and pretend to agree with you... So you end up caring about them, exposing yourself, getting HURT... Screw it! We're better off without them! (Rhetorical) You want people getting in your way? Dragging you down? I don't. ( Back to Flustered) And I never said we were friends. You did!
(Absolutely baffled) Are you high?! I'm not taking my pants off in front of (stumbling over you) you-- in the middle of the street! (Shiki: Oh, grow up. What, are you going commando? You're invisible! No one's watching.) YOU'RE watching! (Shiki: Now! Pants! Off!) (Pleading) Doooooon't!!!
(Doubting himself) Shiki's (She-key) out. They made her my entry fee. Joshua (pause) took the bullet for me. Rhyme's gone. Noise got her. (Subtlety Annoyed) And Beat left to join the Reapers. (Mournful) One Player after another... gone... (Slight Determination) I'm the only one of us left--the only hope we have.
Age: 17
Vocal Range: Medium with a slight rasp to it
Beat tries his best to act tough, but he's really a softie underneath. He gets embarrassed whenever people realize this. He is also highly embarrassed by his real name, which reflects his soft nature. At the same time, Beat is very loud and impulsive, and tends to come to conclusions without reason. He's a little dense and can't pick-up complicated insults to him immediately, but eventually figures things out. Much like a punk kid he has a natural aggressive tone to his voice with a very slight rasp to it, and while some characters have a slight ebonics his is much thicker then the others. For reference think Jessie Pinkman from Breaking bad or Eminem.
(Furious) Damn Reapers! I’ll send every last one of ‘em straight ta hell!
(In pure shock) Rhyme?….(frightened) Rhyme?!, (crying out) RHYME! (pause) (on the verge of tears) I’m (pause) so sorry yo… This is all my fault. I’ll never let you go again! Jus’ you wait. I’m gonna give you that second chance, I swear it!
(Embarrassed and annoyed) Bwah! Rhyme, why you tell’n ‘em my name yo! Not cool yo!

Vocal Range: Medium low
Sanae Hanekoma is the self described "Hip Cafe Barista" of a successful coffee shop and is the multi-talented artist known as CAT. Sanae acts sort of like a mediator for the players, making sure that the reapers are not breaking any rules. Sanae's personality is laid back and a bit enigmatic, he knows more then he leads others to believe but is more then willing to help a defenseless player. For a small voice reference just imagine Liam O'brians Gaara from Naruto.
(Casual) Good morn’n everyone, welcome to the reaper games, long story short, you’re playing for a second chance at life. Don’t screw this up.
(Bluntly putting it) You have no partner, therefore no power. You’ll die from the noise within minutes, come with me, and I might just be able to save you.
(Frustrated) As the game master you know that what you’re doing is against the rules, they’ve still got two more days before you’re allowed to do jack. So get the hell out of here!

Vocal Range: Medium - Medium low
Uzuki is the hotheaded partner of Koki Kariya, unlike many of her colleagues Uzuki is completely obsessed with her work. She is a perfectionist in every aspect when it comes to her occupation. She values all the "Players" as mere trash that she can dispose of in an instant which only aids her in her zealous demeanor. Imagine Michelle Ruff's Rukio from Bleach for vocal reference.
(Annoyed) Kariya (Car-e-uh) why don’t you stop talking and start erasing these players already?!
(Pissed off) You honestly think you can defeat me on the first day!? Know your place player!
(playful and flirtatious) What type of game did you have in mind?

Vocal Range: Medium-Medium high
Although Koki Kariya has the potential to be one of the strongest Reapers Kariya would much rather sit back and relax than exert effort in completing his assignments. He has declined numerous promotions because being an officer meant that he couldn't be out and about in Shibuya; he would only strut around looking important all day, a life he sees as boring. He is naturally laid back and level headed almost to a fault. Imagine Todd Haberkorns Natsu from fairy tale for voice reference.
(playful) How, about we play a little game, number 47, “Reaper hunt” loser buys winner a hot bowl of ramen.
(Relaxed) Why are you getting so worked up over the first day? We’ve got plenty of time to play with ‘em.
(Tired) Alright you win, i’ll buy you your ramen...
Age: 15
Vocal Range: Medium- Medium high
Shiki tries to the best of her abilities to help others. She is generally positive and upbeat; however, despite her happy attitude, Shiki feels inferior and useless to others. She attempts to turn these feelings into poisitive ones and not let them affect her. To enter the Reaper Games she was forced to sacrifice her physical identity and took up her friend Eri's apperance while in the game. Her voice should reflect her bubbly and positive nature, imagine a stereotypical valley girl and just tone it down and you have Shiki.
(Shocked and panicked ) Whoah, found one! You! Forge a pack with me!
(Aggressive and determined) Argh! Just LOOKING at you makes me cringe!... It’s coming loose. That button on your shorts!... OFF Take your shorts off! I’ll fix the button! (Neku:Are you high?! I'm not taking my pants off in front of you-- in the middle of the street!) Shiki: Oh, grow up. What, are you going commando? You're invisible! No one's watching. (Neku: YOU’RE watching!) Shiki: PANTS! OFF! NOW!
(Playful) Sometimes all someone needs is a good listener!
