Welcome to Dorkonia! (An audio book test)

Welcome to Dorkonia! (An audio book test)

Project Overview

I've been interested in doing an audiobook for some time now, and I've always been very cautious to approach the idea. I've always wanted to make my novels into audiobooks, but I wanted to do it my way. Thing is, I was always afraid to see if it would fail. I don't want it to be a wasted effort. So instead, I'd like to start off small, with a short "Audiobook Test" with a small script I made a while ago.

This is the story of Bobby and his adventures in the popular MMO Dorkonia. This was a script I made for fun, and I thought this would be the perfect script to work with for a test audio book.

There are three roles in this.

Bobby, the boy who gets into the world.

Alexiana, or Alex, is a Tutorial NPC that is incredibly tired of all the players that pass by her realm.

And finally there's the narrator. Pretty self-explanatory.

Welp, have fun!

Alexiana Le Angalia, or just Alex as she'd like to be known, is a very cold and bitter NPC that has been part of the game since the very beginning of it's launch. She is scantily dressed, unwillingly by the game developers, and she currently has a grudge against the entire playerbase and the creators of the game. She has been the tutorial NPC for every single player that passes through who makes a new character. While she is very outspoken and loses her temper often, she's not really a terrible "person". Alex has just gone through a lot, and recognizes the corruption of the game's addiction.

She's an adult woman, around 28 years old. Alex has a very stern voice, and is often sardonic. Think of a dry, medium pitch voice. Note: Alex does yell quite a bit.

  • [unenthusiastically] “Hello, o brave warrior of light. Welcome to the amazing world of Dorkonia. You have been summoned here because you are the chosen one, the one who will save us all”. [scoffs] Yeah, you and the 30 million other people who play this game.

  • Oh great, not only are you a scrub but you’re a virgin to MMO's too. Well you’re not any different from anybody else who plays this game, that’s for sure.

  • [somberly] Look at you. Full of hope and cheer...you have no idea what kind of world you’re getting into.

Very shy young man who is hardly exposed to the internet or even mmo games for that matter. He's a kindhearted boy, but his recluse lifestyle has lead to his somewhat awkward way of talking socially.

He's a teenager, so have him sound like such. No deep voice, more like a quiet, soft tone voice.

  • Um, actually...I am a new player. I seriously have no idea how to play this game…

  • My friends told me about this game. I’ve never seen any online ads on it. Then again, I don’t get much time online. My parents restrict me from being on the internet for too long.

  • [After seeing a giant dragon] That...is so...AWESOME!

This is the narrator. A calming, soothing voice that guides the listener with descriptions of what's going on. He'll act as the third person omnipotent guide. The narrator will say more than the cast as this is an audio book that relies on a descriptive narrative. Also this is a voice the audience will be listening to most of the time, so make sure to have a very rich sounding voice.

  • In this world called "Dorkonia", all travellers must go to their first destination. That would be the Realm of Choosing. In this realm, a beautifully lit golden platform, radiating in the sunlight, is surrounded by several portals to other dimensions. A young boy descends from the sky gently as a heavenly light bathes him. The boy looks around, confused.
