We Know The Devil Fandub

We Know The Devil Fandub

Project Overview

Hey! Interested in contributing to a fandub about estranged teenagers? I'm conducting a casting call for We Know The Devil as part of a "dubs for gay girl games" series. If you're interested, feel free to audition! Here's a quick summary about the VN:

  1.      We Know The Devil is a visual novel game written by Aevee Bee and illustrated by Mia Schwartz. It is described as a “low-fi 80’s summer horror aesthetic”, and follows the narrative of three teens named Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter, who are trying to make ends meet in The Summer Scouts, a Christian magical camp for misbehaved children. The visual novel takes LGBT themes and biblical motifs and explores them in ways that question the darkest aspects of humanity and religion.

I would recommend watching the We Know The Devil playthrough by ErynCerise as well, in case you are unfamiliar with the series (her interpretations of the dialogue may help direct you in your own auditions): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcGTlEatjh0&list=PLi0ZunSQk5WU2nZtxcd07hT2aJRKGkJTG

Recommended beforehand:

★ Read through the visual novel or at least have a decent grasp of the characters and general plot

★ Good/great overall mic quality
★ Since We Know The Devil is told through a linear text to sprite format, your ability to deliver a wide arrange of emotion is crucial!
★ Please have a Discord account ahead of your audition!

  1. Before auditioning, be prepared to work on the introductory segment prior to the first pairing option, as well as scenes in all four routes (Jupiter/Red, Neptune/Blue, Venus/Yellow, and The True Ending).  I'm handling somewhat of a tight deadline (3 1/2 weeks - 1 month), so please make sure you have enough time to work on your lines. If you have any questions, shoot me a message!

I'm also planning on opening a casting call for Butterfly Soup after this project is finished, so if you would like to participate in that, or if you have any further suggestions for what I should tackle next, feel free to contact me!

Latest Updates

  • Deadline moved to 1/27!

Due to the really short timeframe for auditions, I decided to push the submission date a little further. I might also add a casting call for Behind The Voice Actors at some point, but we'll see. Thanks for checking in!

A tomboyish girl. She's just trying her best. Note: The role of the narrator may also be given to the Jupiter's VA, so be cognizant of that if you wish to audition for her.

  1. "[Jupiter] has the best grades, and coaches make her starter on whatever team has the most pressing need for someone who can do sports. She's a perfect role model, except for how she always misses the winning goal and blanks on the last question. She leads when no one else wants to, which is always."

  2. - Quote from narration

  3. "Jupiter typically has a "go with the flow" type of attitude, and doesn't concern herself much with other events. The only main exception to this is her fear of the Devil and of being a bad kid. She is constantly afraid of being "bad," and goes out of her way to try extremely hard to be seen as good.

  4. Jupiter is anxious and shows a tendency to blame herself when things go wrong. An example is when she and Neptune go to the greenhouse and she breaks an old cabinet by accident, which causes her to start crying. Whenever she feels nervous or believes she has made a mistake, she snaps a hair-tie against her wrist.

  5. Jupiter feels guilty frequently about being bad, but she also is afraid of intimacy and her feelings for other people. This is especially apparent in her feelings for other girls, and when she states in the Red ending that she is afraid of touching others. Jupiter also appears to be very uncomfortable about the fact that she is a lesbian, as she becomes very self conscious upon having to admit her feelings for Neptune, and gets uncomfortable when Neptune states that she doesn't seem like she would chase after a man."

  • [Painfully brushing it off] Nahhhhhhh it's nothing. It's okay.

  • [Frantic] What is this? What? Whose... hands---?

  • [Paranoid] Don't touch me. You shouldn't touch me. I wasn't born good. But I still thought I could be. You know, I actually liked when the captain talked about how heaven was on merit; as long as you do good things, maybe one day you can be good...

A shy, closeted trans girl. Note: Her identity is revealed later in the visual novel.

  1. "Venus smiles in the way that makes everyone want to punch [her] a little, […] Venus can smile and laugh nervously through anything."

  2. - Quote from narration

  • "Venus is timid and shy, masking a deep anger at the world and at Summer Scouts in particular. She doesn't hesitate to argue back when Group South picks on her, but instead of hurling insults the way they do, she just tells them why she thinks they're antagonizing her.

  • She noticeably is easily distracted. While fixing the sirens, it takes Neptune three tries to get Venus's attention, despite her being involved in the conversation just before. This is likely due to her seeing lights as the devil.

  • Venus finds it impossible to mess up on purpose and can't tell when people are lying to her. This makes her seem like a kiss-up, because she does whatever people wants and always believes what people tell her. She's very good at radios and fixing things but refuses to be what people expect her to be. When she gets drunk with Neptune, she yells when Neptune tells her to toughen up."

  • [Celebratory] Oh. Yay!

  • [Flustered] U-um, sorry, thank you.

  • [Desperate] Why. Why are you protecting me. Why won't you let me... Why can't you just let it have me. Why won't you go on without me. Why won't you?

Group West's "typical mean girl". Cool and cool-headed.

  1. "Neptune is very kind or possibly super mean and hates us. But that's okay. She's really funny. Neptune looks in no way like she's supposed to be here. But that's why she's here, of course."

  2. - Quote from narration

  3. "Neptune is bossy and fashionable, and doesn't care what others might think of her or how her own actions might affect others. Neptune typically behaves as she would like to, with little regard for others' approval. While she can be nice to those she cares about, her tone comes off as rather abrasive and sarcastic most of the time.

  4. Neptune does genuinely care for Jupiter and Venus; however, her ways of showing it are somewhat unconventional. Rather than outright declaring it, she demonstrates her feelings towards her friends in more typically aggressive speech and actions, such as threatening to hit Jupiter if she doesn't stop blaming herself."

  5. - Personality summary sourced from We Know The Devil Wiki

  • [Irritated] Goddddddddd. Seriously, what do you want?

  •  [Drunk, about her paint thinner alcohol] Fuck off please, we're finishing this goddamn bottle and nothing will stop me.

  • [Bitter] Sorry I lied. But you should have known better. You kids are trying so hard to be good. And I guess I don't want you to. Doesn't it feel unfair? You're already so good, so why do you have to try so hard to be good? It makes me mad.

The Christian camp counselor, he has the same appearance as a potato.

  1. "None of the counselors like to talk as much as he does. He must need to feel like he needs to give the sermons since he's in charge, but we know the counselors wish they were somewhere else as much as we do."

  • - Quote from narration

  1. "The bonfire captain is a religious Christian, and a lead instructor at the summer scouts. He pretends to be passionate about his job, despite wishing he was elsewhere. He dislikes swearing, and students who attempt to kiss up to him in an attempt to get him to like them. He has very specific attitudes towards who god likes. He believes that attempting to save somebody or be extra kind to them won't do much for them, and that all people are born either good or bad and that attempting to become a better person won't do much in terms of salvation."

  1. - Personality summary sourced from We Know The Devil Wiki

  • [Taunt] I didn't hear y'all swearing, did I?

  • [Jeering] Everyone having a good time? (silence from Group West) I said, is everyone having a Good Time? (more silence) I SAID, is everyone HAVING A GOOD TIME?

  • [Nostalgic] You know, I wasn't the most popular when I was a kid. I got in my share of fights, but I had a couple of guys I was best friends with and we stuck up for each other.

1st member of Group South, a vehement force of teenage ego. They are treated as one single entity with a "hive-mind"-like mentality.

  1. "Group South doesn't really look the same, but we can't remember their names or tell the difference between them. Which is super mean of us. No wonder they hate our guts… Group south does everything perfectly and is the fucking worst. The best kids in a camp for bad kids are absolutely certain to be the fucking worst."

  •  [The most douchey voice] Hey.

  • [Bitingly] You guys got the lake sirens. We got the forest sirens.

Literally God. His voice is described as sounding like "every boy you are afraid of talking at once". He inherits a role similar to a radio host with a prophetic, almost ominous disposition.

A bewitching and alluring entity, with an almost strange kindness towards our three protagonists.  The Devil's words are heard like "smoke and honey": a "too beautiful" sound. They are sometimes referred to as "he" or "she", so a more androgynous or feminine voice might fit, as a contrast to God's seemingly masculine tone.

  • [Expecting] Oh. Hi there.

  • [Longing] Oh, darling... I miss you. I have always missed you. I can still remember what your faces were like.  I have missed them since before you were born. Please come back.
