The main protagonist to this narrative. Having served for over 200 years as an Ultramarine and Chapter Master, Marneus is as imposing in name as he is in stature. He has a deep, somewhat stoic voice, that is strict yet respectful. You can refer to an example below:

The reward for such unexplained ingenuity is death. This requires an immediate and personal response. Prepare a thunderhawk. Bring me a demi-company of marines. Unseal the gates of Ultramar.
To see such poor visitors to the world of my birth disturbs me. It should not be so.
To defeat your foe you must know their goals. There is more afoot here.
Marneus Calgar's personal bodyguards. Stoic and little in emotion, they keep a watchful eye over Marneus as both an advisor as well as elite soldier.

A force of heretics. They crashed a transport vessel into one of the harvest's front lines.
At once, lord Calgar. I will see to it that the orders are carried out swiftly.
Considered an inferior to many due to his peasantry status, while Tacitan may on the surface appear as someone naive and lacking in understanding, he makes up for it with optimism and a willingness to serve. He is Marneus Calgar's closest friend.

But you do not need to do this, my lord. You made the point. It is too great an expense!
A younger version of Marneus Calgar. Excelling in every trial thrown at him, Marneus lacks neither empathy nor a sense of duty and ambition.

I wish to be a Space Marine, not a mere warrior. The battle was to first blood.
A warrior fights the battle they are given, not the one they wish.
A member of Marneus' cohort. He is somewhat arrogant when it comes to status and especially Tacitan, and is usually quite sarcastic when it comes to pointing out Marneus' elite status.

Clearly, we don't understand his unfettered genius.
His father has hired this oh so special trainer to prepare him for the tests, anyone could be a space marine given such privelages.
A member of Marneus' cohort. Stubborn and prideful, his aristocratic background fuels his arrogance, in which becoming a Space Marine seems more of a rite of passage rather than an achieved honour.

So.. the great blade teacher. You failed. How can you train boys for the tests if you couldn't yourself?
I had you retreating for the whole duel, Marneus. If it was a fight, I would have won. I'm the warrior, not you.
The unwilling instructor for privileged Space Marine trainees, Crixus' bitterness stems from his own personal failures to become a marine, and instead takes it out on the fresh recruits he receives. He has no empathy or remorse for those he instructs, seeing death as a part of training.

Those who pass the tests are taken away. The angels of death have better things to do than beat sense into the dumb children of aristocrats.
If you train with me, you will either become a Neophyte or you will be dead.

But then I would not have killed him, and the blood god would be left wanting.
Listen closely, geared chatterer. Relay to your order that you are safe. You are merely delayed by uncovering whatever trinkets amuse you. Make it convincing, and you may live.
Worshipers of the Chaos Gods, these human cultists form underground organisations that sabotage cities from within, causing havoc and chaos among the populous. Though inferior in strength, they make up for it in sheer numbers and willingness to serve their dark gods.

The blood harvest is now! Khorne will have the blood he desires!
Blood for the blood god!
Sergeants are selected from hardened Veteran Space Marines who have survived and thrived through several solar decades, or even standard centuries, of hard and brutal campaigning in the name of the Emperor.

Warp Hazard! Sergeant to all brothers! Withdraw! This place is unstable!
Hmm. A poor start. An aspirant of quality should be back on his feet by now.
A clandestine agent and one of the highest-ranking members of the Imperium. Inquisitors serve as the secret police and intelligence agents and their authority is theoretically second only to that of the Emperor.

I was investigating Crixus' cult. It has only come to light that one who came into contact with it had survived, let alone thrived.
Had I discovered you at the time, I would have killed you. But... you have served well. The chapter master himself has argued for Clemency.
Now fully corrupted and merged with his ally Severan, they seek the long overdue death of Tacitan, in the name of their dark gods.

Oh... Khorne smiles! A tithe of blood long hungered for!
The gods smile upon us, does your false emperor bestow such blessings?
Now fully corrupted and merged with his ally Kato, they seek the long overdue death of Tacitan, in the name of their dark gods.

Little Tacitan cannot run from his friends anymore!
Oh, after so many years. This is perfect. We feared you would discover us and prevent our glory. But instead, you are delivered to us.
