War of the Spark - Voice of All
Project Overview
As Wizards of the Coast continues to release their weekly Magic Story updates, it is our goal on the Voice of All podcast to bring these stories to life through audio.
It's been a few months, but Magic Story is back with a web fiction version of the events of the War of the Spark novel! For this we have several new characters that need voices, an old favorite needing an update, and a narrator for this set of stories! You can read the first story they've posted here:
If you're interested in hearing our past works, you can listen to all of them here:
https://www.voiceofallmtg.com/
We can also be found on Soundcloud, Stitcher, YouTube, iTunes, and Google Podcasts! We are looking to keep up with the release of Wizards' stories as best as possible and will release our version the second following Friday, so expect to be cast this week and have your lines to me within a few days.
As a general casting note, I do not typically have any voice requirements in mind for characters. I would much rather hear your interpretations and choose from among them.

Rat is a 17 year old, guildless girl with boundless energy and strange powers. Born to Gruul parents, who love her when they can remember she exists, Rat wanders the streets of Ravnica, talking to herself, picking pockets, spying for her friend Hekara, and pondering which guild she'd like to join. Rat has a strange magical nature in that most people around simply cannot notice her. They naturally cannot see or hear her unless someone reminds them she exists and forces them to look at her. The number of people who can notice her without prompting is an extremely short list and she gets very attached to those people. Being this way is otherwise very lonely, so she fills the void by talking almost constantly. Also she's mildly psychic, so that's neat.
Rat is also the narrator of this and the next several stories, so if you think you're up for embodying this little chatterbox, please step up!
[Excited! Introducing yourself to a new person, which you rarely get to do] "We haven't been properly introduced. I'm Rat. I mean Rat's not my real name, of course. It's more of a nickname. Folks call me that. Well, not a lot of folks. But you get the idea. My real name—or, you know, my given name—is Araithia. Araithia Shokta. So Rat is shorter, easier to say. You can call me Rat. I'm not offended by the name at all. Truth is, it's kinda perfect for me. Perfecter than Araithia, I guess. Although I think Araithia is prettier, you know? My mother still calls me Araithia. So does my father. But they're pretty much the only ones. Well, there's this centaur I know, but he's kinda my godfather, so it's the same idea. Parents get stuck on the names they pick. But I'm fine with Rat. So you go ahead and call me Rat, okay?"
[Upset. Hopeless. You found out a friend died] "Hekara was my friend... She knew me. She saw me."
[Narration test]
I turned to look as the sound of crashing masonry echoed across the plaza. A gigantic portal—easily fifty yards tall—had opened up behind us, instantly decimating the Embassy of the Guildpact, sheering it right in half. Soft violet light poured forth from the portal. It almost looked soothing—you know, except for the destruction the tear in space had caused and was still causing. An ogre stumbled forward before collapsing; a full quarter of her body had been evaporated by the portal's arrival. The embassy's crumbling façade fell, crushing two more bystanders beneath it.
It was a horror show. And not the fun Rakdos type.
Teyo is a 17 year old shieldmage from the desert world of Gobakhan. He was an acolyte, training to protect people with his shield magic from the plane's frequent diamond storms - sandstorms laced with the hard precious stones. At the beginning of our story he was forced into his first planeswalk to the world of Ravnica, just in time to be caught up in multiverse spanning plots and marching zombie armies. Teyo is not very good as a shieldmage, lacking confidence in his own abilities, but he presents an eagerness to help and rapidly develops his powers as he's forced to fight and save people. Most of his character in this story is to be confused and befuddled, as he has no context for anything, but I believe he'll prove to be a great hero.
As a planeswalker, Teyo is major character in Magic's story. Should he reappear, you will be asked to reprise the role.
[Absolutely confused] "You've never heard of the Order? How is that possible? What do you do during a diamondstorm?"
[exasperated] "I'm not a monk yet. I'm an acolyte. And shaving your head's not a rule. At least I don't think it is. Right now, I'm not sure of anything!"
"Yes. There's the Carpenters' Guild. And the Stablemen's Guild. But I don't think they run anything. I think they just get together to drink ale and complain. At least, that was my impression. I was only in Oasis for a few days."
Hekara is a razorwitch of the Rakdos Cult and emissary of the demon Rakdos himself. Chipper, smarmy, and quick with a joke, Hekara works with the other guild leaders to try and prepare for the dragon Nicol Bolas's schemes. Though she does die in this tale, she does appear in other stories in the future. Should you take this role you will be asked to reprise her in the future.
"Rat! C'mere, baby-cakes, and gimme some sugar."
"Well, I'll be with ol' Rally-Boy, myself, so you can take the night off. Let's meet back here, oh . . . just before dawn. If I don't show, it's 'cuz I'm still with him, and you can take the whole day off."
[soft and sentimental] "Hey, you're my Rat. Not my moth. I know I'm the brightest light in the Multiverse, but no need to hover. I'm a big girl. Can take care of myself."
A confident, roguish duelist with a mysterious past, Kaya has the ability to become partially incorporeal—allowing her to slip through solid items and physically interact with ghosts and the spirit world.
Kaya is a firm believer that life is for the living. The living should make the most of their lives and pursue what they want while they've still got time, and find their own peace before death. If you die with unfinished business, well, that's probably your fault. And if it's not...perhaps she could help you...for a price. In the current story, Kaya was hired to assassinate the ghostly leaders of the Orzhov Syndicate and tricked into becoming their leader. She works now to free herself from the bonds of this duty.
Kaya is a planeswalker and a major character in Magic. Should you accept this role, you may be asked to reprise it in future stories.
"If you don't trust me, don't let me into your house. I can always find another client. And you can either find someone else with my very unusual skill set or live with your dear mother's ghost forever."
[As a ghost wails at her] "Very spooky! Want to rattle some windows? Maybe throw some plates around?"
"Any others around? Planeswalkers, that is. Not goggles. We could use the help."
