Voice Actors Needed!
Project Overview
Jubaku is an upcoming first-person psychological thriller set in Japan in 1991. The game follows an American journalist investigating the mysterious Tanaka Residence, a house surrounded by reports of paranormal activity, disappearances, and disturbing unexplained events.
The game focuses on psychological horror, investigation, branching choices, multiple endings, and environmental storytelling. Players will explore the residence, document paranormal events, uncover hidden recordings, and attempt to uncover the truth behind what happened there.
We are currently looking for 5 Japanese voice actors to join the project:
1 Main Lead Voice Actor – For the primary protagonist and central playable character.
1 Voice Actor for Yumi Tanaka – A major character central to the story's mystery.
2–3 Voice Actors for NPC Characters – Various supporting characters, including neighbours and other individuals encountered during the investigation.
We are looking for performers who can deliver natural, believable performances and help bring the game's unsettling 1990s Japanese setting to life.
Please note that this is currently an unpaid opportunity at this stage of development. However, all voice actors who participate will receive full credit in the game's credits and will be listed as part of the project's cast.
If Jubaku performs better financially than our previous game, which generated approximately $3,000 USD, we intend to provide participating voice actors with a payment of up to $20 USD as a thank-you for their contribution. This payment is dependent on the game's financial performance and is not guaranteed.
In addition, our team is in contact with several indie game developers and studios who are always looking for talented voice actors for future projects. If we enjoy working together and your performance is a good fit, we would be more than happy to recommend you for future opportunities within the indie game development community.
If you are passionate about horror games, enjoy bringing characters to life, and would like to help contribute to an exciting project, we would love to hear from you.
Riko Tanaka is a major character in the story of Jubaku. Although she is not the primary playable protagonist, her presence is central to the game's mystery, emotional core, and true ending.
The role requires a voice capable of portraying multiple emotional states, including vulnerability, pain, fear, anger, resentment, and emotional exhaustion. The character's performance should feel grounded and natural rather than exaggerated. The role includes both subtle, intimate emotional moments and more disturbing supernatural sequences.
The voice actor should be comfortable portraying:
A young woman in moments of physical and emotional vulnerability
Quiet sadness and exhaustion
Anger and resentment
Fear and desperation
Supernatural or unsettling vocal performances
Emotional scenes requiring a restrained, realistic delivery

Yumi Tanaka is a major supporting character in Jubaku and a central figure in the mystery surrounding the Tanaka Residence.
The role requires a voice actor capable of portraying a deeply unsettling combination of affection, control, emotional manipulation, and psychological instability. Yumi should not sound like a traditional horror villain. Her most disturbing quality is that she genuinely believes that everything she does is an expression of love.
The performance should be subtle, realistic, and emotionally layered. Yumi may shift between warmth and tenderness to coldness, anger, and disturbing emotional intensity. Her voice should be capable of making seemingly loving words feel deeply uncomfortable.
The voice actor should be comfortable portraying:
False or unsettling warmth
Obsessive maternal affection
Emotional manipulation
Coldness and psychological control
Anger and frustration
Disturbing calmness
A character who genuinely believes she is acting out of love

"Why are you crying? I'm only trying to help you."
The neighbours are minor supporting roles in Jubaku. They are ordinary residents of the neighbourhood surrounding the Tanaka Residence, but their interactions with the protagonist should feel subtly unnatural and uncomfortable.
The performances should be grounded and realistic rather than overtly theatrical. The neighbours should initially sound like normal people having ordinary conversations, but something about their delivery, pauses, word choices, or reactions should leave the player feeling that something is not quite right.

Character: Kenta
Cameraman and close colleague of Adam (the American journalist protagonist), who joins him for three days at a reportedly haunted house. He's the emotional anchor of the story's first half, and the audition needs to show that arc breaking down over the course of the game.
Voice/Language requirement
Native Japanese speaker, or a performer who can deliver natural, unforced English with an authentic Japanese accent. Avoid exaggerated or stereotyped accent work; it should read as a real bilingual colleague, not a caricature.
Personality and range needed
Early game: warm, easygoing, a little jokey. He's the one trying to keep the mood light in the van and cut the tension when Adam goes quiet.
Mid game: steady and reassuring. He talks Adam down after the attic and the first flashback, brushing off what's happening as stress or "the house messing with his head."
Late game: that composure cracks. He goes quieter, more shaken, less willing to explain things away.
Climax: real terror and screaming.
Optional (ending-dependent): a version of the line reads with an unsettling flatness or calm, like something's gone wrong underneath the performance rather than on top of it.

So then, are you saying it was the mother?
"Well, while you were busy doing that, I rounded up a few people. Couple down the block, and the owner at the supermarket. They seem willing to talk."
