CLOSED: Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows [Sims 2 VOS]

Project Overview

Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows follows the life and death of Owen Evanns, a young man suddenly confronted by supernatural forces beyond his understanding. In a desperate attempt to protect what he holds dear, he is pulled into a liminal state between life and death. There, suspended between two worlds, he meets a cast of strange yet gentle creatures who guide him through the grief of his own passing and the craving of his lost life. As he learns to navigate this in-between place, Owen begins to rediscover meaning, memory, and the strength to continue in a form far different than he ever imagined.

Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows is a supernatural drama series filmed using The Sims 2. This story-driven machinima explores themes of grief, identity, and transformation through a stylized, cinematic lens. The series focuses on emotional performances, atmospheric visuals, and a character-focused narrative.

This is a no-pay passion project, and all voice actors will be fully credited. Episodes will be released online, and roles may recur depending on character arcs. Ideal for those who love introspective storytelling, supernatural elements, and expressive voice work.

What to Expect:

  • Scripts are written with tone and delivery in mind, offering clear emotional context and guidance.

  • Line counts vary per character; minor roles may only have a few lines, while leads will have more substantial dialogue.

  • You will receive your script in a text format on Google, with pronunciation notes and direction where needed.

  • Communication will be done via email or Discord, depending on your preference.

  • Most characters will have emotionally expressive lines; actors should be comfortable performing grief, wonder, fear, or warmth.

Rules and Expectations:

  • Be emotive and expressive; flat reads will not be considered.

  • Use clear audio. A decent mic with minimal background noise is expected (avoid headset or phone mics if possible, feel free to use audacity to clean up vocals).

  • Multiple takes welcome. You may include up to 2–3 takes in one file if showing different interpretations.

  • File format: Submit as MP3 or WAV, named [CharacterName]_[YourName].mp3

  • Deadline: All auditions must be submitted by August 15th. Late entries may not be accepted.

  • If cast, deliver on time. Turn in lines by due date. Communicate early if any issues arise.

  • Be open to direction. You may be asked for retakes or adjustments.

  • Follow through. Only audition if you're committed to completing the role.

WARNING: Please note that Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows is a personally funded, non-commercial project created using The Sims 2 as the filming medium. I am not seeking external funding (e.g. Kickstarter) or outside production services (such as animation, marketing, or campaign strategy).

Only messages and auditions directly related to voice acting will be reviewed.

Unsolicited service offers will be ignored, blocked, reported, and promptly deleted.

Latest Updates

  • Casting Update

Casting decisions have been made and those selected have been reached out to. Roles are set for everyone who has confirmed.

For extra roles where there were multiple strong contenders, no final placement has been made. In these cases, I have reached out individually. If you were contacted but later marked as dismissed, this is the reason. You are still confirmed as cast in this case and I will reach out regarding lines and discord shortly.

I am still waiting to hear back from a few people before finalizing the full cast. Once all confirmations are received, I will share information about the Discord server and next steps for the project.

Thank you again for your patience and for the incredible effort you all put into your auditions.

  • Final Update – Casting Call Closed

It’s a few minutes past midnight!

The casting call for Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows is now officially closed. Over the next three days, I will be reaching out to prospective cast members to confirm commitment capabilities while finishing the review of the final submissions.

Auditions will be ranked, and if a selected actor chooses not to take on a role, the next person in the ranking will be contacted. Once the cast has been finalized, anyone not selected will be listed as “dismissed” so that you are not left wondering about your status.

This is not a reflection on ability. You are all a remarkably talented group, and these decisions will be very difficult.

Thank you to everyone who dedicated their time and talent to audition. Even if you are not cast in this round, there may be opportunities in the future, and you are warmly invited to follow and watch the project as it unfolds.

  • Final Update – Auditions Closing Tomorrow

Thank you to everyone who has auditioned for Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows. All auditions submitted so far have been listened to, ranked, and noted to help streamline the final decision process.

The audition window officially closes tomorrow. Any submissions posted after closing will not be considered and will be dismissed immediately.

As a note of clarity: being shortlisted does not guarantee a role, but it does mean your audition has been ranked for further consideration. If your audition has been dismissed, please know this is not necessarily negative. With the large number of auditions received, dismissals simply provide confirmation in advance so you are not left waiting without feedback.

If you would like feedback, feel free to reach out. I have personally handled each audition and taken thorough notes.

Our Discord server is finalized and ready for cast members, and we are looking forward to the next stage of production once casting decisions are made.

I appreciate the time, creativity, and passion each of you has brought to your performances. It has been inspiring to listen through them all.

  • 📢 Casting Call Update – Final Days to Audition

Auditions for Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows close Saturday, August 17th at 11:59 PM.
(CCC will show the official deadline as Monday, August 18th at 12:00 AM MDT because of the time input format.)

If you have been planning to audition but have not yet, now is the time to get your recording time in and submit before the deadline. Late entries will not be accepted, no matter how good they are, in the spirit of fairness.

Once auditions close, I will take about three days to finalize casting decisions. During that time, I may reach out to shortlisted auditioners to discuss prospective roles, availability, and commitment levels.

Until a role is officially assigned, nothing is confirmed. This also gives me time to finish preparing cast folders, scripts, and other materials.

On that note, the entire series scripts are now complete. I am excited to move into the next stage with the final cast in place.

If you are planning to audition, get those submissions in.

  • Casting Call Update – 1 Week Left

We are now one week away from auditions closing for Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows.
Once auditions close they will not reopen, so if you have been thinking about auditioning, now is the time to send in your submission.

    Series Progress:

    • 10 episodes finalized with all lines locked, dialogue loads calculated, and estimated recording times provided for voice actors. We expect the series to run longer than 10 episodes.

    • Discord server fully set up for the cast with organized channels for scripts, updates, and resources.

If you have already auditioned and would like notes on your performance, do not hesitate to reach out. I listen to each audition in full and provide feedback on performance, technical quality, and recording setup.

This is your last chance to join a dark, character-driven supernatural drama with gothic intrigue, emotional depth, and rich worldbuilding.

Auditions close in 7 days. Submit before the deadline to be considered.

Owen Evanns is the heart of Vermillion Sins: The Kindness of Shadows. Once a bright and lively soul, Owen was known for his easy smile, outgoing nature, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He was the kind of person who filled a room with energy: fun-loving, social, and always willing to stand up for his friends and family.

But everything changed when he was caught off guard by supernatural forces that tore him from the life he knew. Now suspended in a liminal space between life and death, Owen struggles to make sense of what’s happened to him. The confident, vibrant extrovert must now confront grief, confusion, and the quiet weight of a new existence — one that demands resilience of a different kind.

Vladimir – VLAD-ih-meer

Vladimir is a quiet, enigmatic figure who lives reclusively among the other vampires, a far cry from the warmonger he once was. Once known for unspeakable brutality, he now seeks solitude and peace, offering protection and wisdom to those who reside within his walls.

Though reserved, Vladimir commands respect with a calm presence and deep understanding of the supernatural world. He is a mentor to many, having helped guide and teach others like Elijah, Ivanya, and Luka. His relationship with the younger vampires, especially Melanie, reflects a deeply rooted sense of duty and care — one he expresses not through grand gestures, but in small, meaningful ways.

This role requires a voice that can convey centuries of lived experience, inner stillness, and quiet strength — someone whose soft tone still carries undeniable weight.

Melanie “Mel/Melly” Vlahovic — MEL-uh-nee / MEL / MEL-ee VLAH-ho-vitch

Melanie Vlahovic, affectionately called Melly, sometimes Melania, or “little fledgling” by her father, is a young vampire raised by Ivanya and Luka. Quietly intense yet deeply curious, Melly longs to experience the human world the way other people her age do — carefree, connected, alive.

But life near humans isn’t easy. Her thirst is strong and difficult to manage, making every interaction a delicate balancing act between desire and restraint. Melly is no stranger to isolation, and despite her parents’ care, she often feels like she exists just outside of the life she truly wants.

She forms a deep, genuine bond with Owen, one of the first humans who treats her like a person, not a threat. Their connection gives her a fragile sense of hope and belonging, even as she struggles to keep her darker instincts in check.

This role calls for emotional nuance. A voice that can shift between control and desperation, longing and strength, with subtle vulnerability beneath a quiet exterior.

Ivanya carries the weight of many hardships with quiet strength and resilience. She often takes on the serious guardian role, letting Luka be the “fun parent” to maintain balance in their family. Her unwavering devotion means she will go to any lengths to protect Melanie and those she loves.

Elijah Evanns is a powerful and reserved vampire who carries the weight of many lifetimes. Mysterious and fiercely protective, Elijah is a man of few words but deep convictions. He values loyalty above all else and will go to great lengths to shield those he considers family, including Luka, Ivanya, Melanie, and most recently, Owen.

Though he keeps his emotions close to the chest, Elijah’s connection to Owen is undeniable. After turning him, Elijah quietly watches over the boy’s transformation, offering guidance in his own stern, watchful way. He sees Owen as more than a responsibility... He is kin, and Elijah protects his own.

This role requires a quiet intensity; a voice with emotional gravity, low warmth, and a measured, deliberate cadence. Think: a man who’s endured great loss and lives with restraint. He is not cold—but his emotions run deep and are revealed in rare, vulnerable moments. His voice should be not pristine, formal, or posh; he’s weathered, not regal. Think Sean Bean in Game of Thrones or Richard Armitage's Thorin Oakenshield speeches fromThe Hobbit. Graveled, weighty, and deep.
