Varney the Vampyre

Varney the Vampyre

Project Overview

Varney the Vampyre was a collection of Penny dreadfulls written A LONG TIME AGO. He is like 50yrs older than Dracula, and I see like zero references of him in modern media despite just how awesome it is. A rare gem. Its a mix of horror and comedy, and mystery. With all of the male characters I am more than willing to gender bend a couple of them if I need to, and the story (and original script) will likely be altered for various reasons and purposes, but will try to remain as original as possible.
The story is set in 1847 London (and various nearby areas) and has a Victorian feel PLUS comedy. Theres plenty to go off of, chances are the finished project will only be a portion of the entire collection.

I'm aiming to re-create it in minecraft utilizing the replay mod, so if any VA's wanna body act you'll need java edition. More details to come.

The main. If I get any auditions with a Transylvanian accent imma commit crimes. (Not actually) He's French, so bonus points for a French accent. Varney is quite a troublemaker, both planning very detailed plans and winging it a bit too hard. A very experienced criminal, and he very much hates his vampirism, hating himself every step of the way.

  • "What! Because there is an accidental likeness between me and an old picture, am I to be set down as a vampyre? Why, when I was in Austria last, I saw an old portrait of a celebrated court fool, and you so strongly resemble it, that I was quite struck when I first saw you with the likeness; but I was not so unpolite as to tell you that I considered you were the court fool turned vampyre."

  • 1 am one who has witnessed time's mutations on man and on his works, and I have pitied neither; I have seen the fall of empires, and sighed not that high-reaching ambition was toppled in the dust. I have seen the grave close over the young and the beautiful — those whom 1 have doomed by my insatiable thirst for human blood to death, long ere the usual span of life was past, but I never loved till now."

  • ...A hundred years is a tolerable long space of time, you know."

another main. He and his family are in (or near?) bath London, and prob have English or French accents. He's young and simply trying to take care of his family after the sudden death of his father.

  • "A VAMPIRE?!"

  • "I cannot be said to have one about it. It is too absurd to tell you that my brother George is impressed with a belief a vampyre has visited the house."

  • "I am going to search the garden and adjoining meadows; if you two gentlemen choose to come with me, I shall of course be happy of your company; if, however, you prefer remaining here to wrangle, you can do so."

Kind of a badass later on, but starts out as a very stereotypical maiden in distress. She has her moments, and is a very prominent cast member. She is very traumatized. And also a romantic.

  • "1 was awakened by the storm, and I saw that terrible apparition at the window. I think I screamed, but 1 could not fly. Oh, God! I could not fly. It came — it seized me by the hair. I know no more. I know no more."

  • That which came here was more than mortal. Oh, Henry, if it had but killed me, now I had been happy; but 1 cannot live — I hear it breathing now."

  • "dear sir, how could you believe, for one moment, that they came from him? There has been some desperate villainy on foot. Where is he? — oh, find him, if he be yet alive. If they who have thus striven to steal from him that honour, which is the jewel of his heart, have murdered him, seek them out, sir, in the sacred name of justice, I implore you."

  • "My hand upon it. Come what dangers may, I will share them with you, Henry."

  • "Henry, have you never heard of a strange and dreadful superstition which, in some countries, is extremely rife, by which is it supposed that there are beings who never die?"

  • [Desperate screaming, pounding at his chains and the walls to let him out. True fear]

A romantic. Prob kinda gay, or has that vibe. I would imagine he's bi. ANYWAY. He's very bold like a stereotypical heroine, trynna get back at the vampyre for hurting his girl. Very straightforward and honest, especially with Flora his beloved.

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • You may cast me off, Flora; but until you tell me you love another, I am yours till the death, and then with a sanguine hope at my heart that we shall meet again, never, dearest, to part."

  • "how happy we might to have been! but all is past now, and there seems nothing left us and that is in my killing this fearful man who is invested with so dreadful an existence. And if I do kill him in fair and in open fight, I will take care that his mortal frame has no power again to revisit the glimpses of the moon."

  • "Varney, Varney, you will not succeed in convincing me of your supernatural powers. I hold such feelings and sensations at arm's length. I will not — I cannot assume you to be what you affect."

A PIRATE. Technically a sailor, but pirate is cool. He's the captain, Charles' uncle and has a father-son relationship with a drunk sailor Jack Pringle. Curses like a sailor, ofc. Loves his nephew and sees the bannerworths as family.

Voice description:

  • These letters were not written by my nephew, Charles. He is incapable of writing them, and, d — n me, I shall take shame to myself as long as I live for ever thinking so.

  • "Why, Jack, you scoundrel, how came you here? Don't you know me? I'm your admiral, you horse-marine."

  • Jack, you rascal, if you're joking, it's the last joke you shall make in this world; and if it's true, I — I — I'm an old fool

A very open minded doctor. Very liberal in comparison to the times he was living in, and may have been a basis for Frankenstein. He's very passionate about science, or what he would consider science, and feels a responsibility for Varney because he believes he may have been responsible for creating him. (Neglecting his wife and kids in the process)

Language:

Voice description:

  • "if you were to shut me up in a room full of vampyres, I would tell them all to their teeth that I defied them."

  • "Sir Francis Varney, what brings you here? I conjure you to tell me, in the name of common justice and common feeling, what brings you to this house so frequently?

  • *Maniac chuckling*

Probably spelled his name wrong. He's a sketchy character, probably a vampire but its debatable. Was a hangman in London but he hated the job. Has a tense relationship with Varney, and knew Chillingworth in london a while back. He's got his own plans, too bad he dies lols

Voice description:
  • androgynous
  • "There are but two kinds of men in this world; those who hang, and those who do not."

  • "Oh, you are too ingenious — too full of well laid schemes, and to apt and ready in their execution, to feel, as any fearful drag, the conditions of our bargain. Why do you look at me so earnestly?"

  • "You have been among the dead?"
