Undertale: Cynicism and Innocence

Undertale: Cynicism and Innocence

Project Overview

Cynicism and Innocence is an Undertale fan project which seeks to provide a realistic take on a world where two well-meaning fans manage to bring the characters of their favorite game to life and will cover at the very least up to five years after the event, showing the political, societal, economic, etc. repercussions of their action. Voice actors will be called upon to fill in the gaps of the main fanfiction by aiding in the creation of audio for the project such as in-character recordings, interviews, and so on.

While Cynicism and Innocence serves as a deconstruction of fanon, idealistic takes on the Surface, and self-insertion, it will not be dark and edgy. All canon characters will continue to be in character and fanon will be joked about and made fun of.

What has been done of the project so far is currently at leehardison.tumblr.com. Any questions should be directed there.

Pictures and more roles to be added soon.

The brother who came up with the idea of bringing the Undertale characters to life, Winston is a tad egotistical but also genuinely intelligent. He's eleven years old and has a sort of mixed American-Canadian accent. The second line should be read as though he's carrying something heavy, like an overly large coding book.

  • I'm not talking about magicking them out of thin air or whatever.

  • So, just to confirm, which mask are you wearing today? The "edgy prick" one or the "I'm too busy to be polite" one?

  • So you basically set your clueless friend on the job so you could slack off on the job and do whatever you want. Why?

The younger, more idealistic brother of Winston, Joe is a usually cheery eight-year-old who knows that the rest of the world isn't the most pleasant but tries to just block it out. Like his brothers, he has an American-Canadian accent. His voice is high-pitched and has a slightly downtrodden feel to it. The first line should be read in a patronizing tone, while the second should be somewhat melancholy.

  • You can't do that in real life, dummy.

  • We didn't really think this through well, did we?

  • Someone's... Papyrus is trying to call you.

The same jape-loving skeleton as in canon and DEFINITELY not even similar to fanon, Sans is the first character brought to life by Winston and Lee. His voice is higher-pitched than fanon and also slightly raspy, and sounds partially dead.

  • Novel idea, but how's that supposed to help with this.

  •  Hey, back off. What're you so angry for? You've seen this game they claim I'm from, haven't ya?

  • I can see that there might be a few humans who try to kill everyone in real life, but what does that have to do with everyone else?

The fifteen-year-old brother of Winston and Joe, Lee had no part in bringing the Undertale characters to life initially but, after an explosive burst of anger on realizing the worst possible outcomes of the current scenario, agreed to aid with the politics of the time afterwards. His voice should sound older than he actually is and as though he's been working far too hard on meaningless projects.

  • What is it? If it's a phone call for me, tell 'em to piss off, and if Mom wants me to take out the garbage or something, it can wait till I'm done this.

  • What the hell's going on in here?

  • ...let me take the role of Captain Exposition for just a few minutes and tell you PRECISELY why my little brothers just effed up the most they ever have in their lives and probably doomed monsters to annihilation.
