True Colors (A 1980s Original Animated Series)
Project Overview
OVERVIEW
True Colors (no relation to the Cyndi Lauper song) is a slice-of-life animated series that asks a simple question:
"What if the colors of the rainbow went to high school...in 1985?"
...Okay it's not a question EVERYBODY asks but it's still a pretty simple question.
The story follows Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. seven teenage girls living in the town of Prism Heights just trying to survive high school while trying to figure out who they really are. One thing's for sure though, High school is one seriously colorful experience.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for fun, kind, and easy-to-work-with voice actors who have clear-sounding mics that capture their voice with minimal background noise. Maximum of 3 takes per line. Improv is encouraged so don't be afraid to go off-script and have fun with it. Open ethnicity, POC actors highly encouraged to audition.

Red is bold, fiery, and fearless. She dives headfirst into life, chasing thrills and stirring up excitement wherever she goes. She's got a bit of a rebellious streak, often starting trouble without meaning to, but her energy is infectious and her heart is always in the right place

[Dodging mall security] Move it, move it, move it! If we get caught, it’s gonna be sooo much worse than last time! And I'll be DAMNED if I'm spending another afternoon explaining myself to the mall pigs! My parents have enough reasons to give me shit, I don't need to give 'em MORE ammo!
[To Blue, Encouraging] Look, you can either sit here and psych yourself out until you vomit, or you can walk out there and own the stage. And knowing you? You were born to own it. You're a star, Blue, so let yourself shine.
[Seeing an old lover from her past with another girl, Annoyed] (Sighs deeply) If anybody needs me, I'll be punching the vending machine in the hall until my knuckles bleed. God knows I'll have more fun dealing with THAT pain than...(sighs) than seeing him.
Orange is bubbly, friendly, and endlessly optimistic. She’s the life of the party and the glue that keeps her friends together, always ready with a joke or a spontaneous idea for an adventure. Underneath her sunny vibe, she’s deeply loyal and surprisingly insightful about the people around her.

[Eager to go roller skating even though it’s like 3 AM] Oh, come onnn, what’s a little sleep deprivation compared to the THRILL of a midnight skating race? We’ll be legends! Or at least… we'll be mildly cool in the eyes of other night owls. That's gotta count for something, right?
[Bursting through the door, Excited] GUYS! Big news! There is a new pizza place in town, and they have an arcade. And—AND—they have a slushie machine complete with an entire wall dedicated to slushie flavors! IT'S LIKE IF SEVEN ELEVEN AND PIZZA HUT HAD A BABY! We are SO going! Come on, time is pizza!
[Falling after failing a skating trick] AGH! (Groans) Okay, not my best landing. Buuut not my worst either, nothing I think will top the cafeteria incident of '84...(Shivers) So much mustard.
Yellow is sweet, caring, and a little naive. She’s the one who believes the best in everyone and works hard to keep the peace. Even when things get heavy, she tries to stay positive, but she's not a pushover — when pushed too far, Yellow’s got a surprising backbone.

[Sitting on the roof, watching the sunset] You ever notice how sunsets feel different depending on the day? It's like sometimes it's just "Oh, a sunset, that's nice. Well back to life." But then you get sunsets like this. The kind where you just can't help but get lost in their warm glow. The kind that you just never want to end. (Sighs happily) These are the sunsets I live for.
[Reassuring] Hey, listen, one bad day doesn’t mean a bad life. It’s like… well it's like when your Walkman eats your favorite tape. It feels like the end of the world at the time, but after a while you realize you can find a way to fix it. Or, y’know, buy another one... Okay, maybe not the best analogy but you get what I mean.
[Distracted] (Gasps) Look at the doggy! Oh my gosh, he’s wearing a little bandana! Aww that's so cute! Okay, okay, sorry umm... wait what were we talking about?
Green is grounded, passionate, and stubborn when she believes in something. She’s deeply connected to nature and social causes, never afraid to stand up and fight for what’s right. While she hates pointless drama, she’s never one to back down from a cause she cares about.

[Arguing with a teacher] Okay, so let me see if I've got this straight—you’re giving me detention for wearing a HAT. Meanwhile, that meathead threw a CHAIR! A fucking CHAIR! And he only gets a warning. Yeah, no, the logic doesn't track.
[Eager to sneak into an abandoned building] Oh, come on, live a little! You think the best stories come from following the rules? No way. The real adventures start when you ignore the ‘Keep Out’ signs.
[Giving a speech at a protest] We are NOT gonna sit back and let them wreck our planet! They think we won’t fight back? That we'll fold? Well guess what? We're not paper! We're TREES! No matter how many times we get chopped down, we'll always come back!
Blue is chill, thoughtful, and a little reserved. She’s the cool, collected one of the group — the type who'd rather listen to a cassette in her room than get caught up in the chaos. But when she connects with someone, she’s fiercely loyal and full of quiet wisdom.

[Staring at the night sky, lost in thought] You ever wonder if there’s another version of you out there? Like… in another universe, we’re like totally different people, living totally different lives.
[To Red, smirking] You know, it's funny. Underneath that leather jacket and bravado, you're actually really sweet. Who woulda thought Red the hothead had a soft side?
[Handing over a mixtape she made] Okay so every song on here is either like super deep or just something I thought you’d enjoy. So if it’s like emotional and shit and then suddenly goes to a banger… yeah, that was-that was intentional.
Indigo is creative, moody, and totally in her own world. She’s an artist at heart — deep, dreamy, and sometimes a little intense. She’s not afraid to challenge the norm and always marches to the beat of her own drum, even if that makes her a little misunderstood.

[Explaining her latest art piece, Passionate then Annoyed] Um excuse me? This is not JUST a painting. It’s an expression of my soul, a peak into my inner world, a glimpse inside the inner machinations of my—oh, forget it. It’s a bunch of colors I poured on the canvas, and I thought it looked cool. Go ahead, laugh it up.
[Trying to perform a tarot reading] Okay so technically I don’t know what the hell I’m doing right now. I found this tarot deck in the school library and I thought 'Eh, why not?' and just started playing around with them. The three of swords means you'll be a wicked ninja!
[Hanging upside down] You know, they say hanging upside down is good for the brain, like it helps bloodflow and it can help with ideas and such. I don't know if I'm getting any ideas but I'm definitely getting a headache...(Retches) And a lunch I think I'm about to lose.
Violet is stylish, sharp, and secretly a bit insecure. She knows how to turn heads with her looks and attitude, but underneath the glam, she’s still figuring out who she really is. Violet craves connection but struggles to let people see the real her.

[To her friends, At a party] Oh no. No no no no no! We are not standing against the wall like we’re at a middle school dance, okay? We’re getting out there, and we are busting some moves!
[Post-disaster] Okay, so… maybe that didn’t go according to plan. But on the bright side...(Long Pause) Was kinda hoping someone would interrupt me 'cus I've got nothing.
