Trooper Down 3: Character Voice Auditions

Trooper Down 3: Character Voice Auditions

Project Overview

Hi, I'm Jor, and these are the official voice auditions of Trooper Down 3.
Trooper Down 3 is a sci-fi on-rail First Person Shooter that relies heavily on its storytelling to make the game feel immersive. It's inspired by sci-fi franchises like Star Wars, Halo, Titanfall, etc. but still tries to be as original as possible.
(if you want to learn more about the game's story, a google doc link will be provided at the bottom of this description)

The game is developed using scratch, a basic programming language with a TON of limitations.
That being said, I have almost 4 years of experience in making games and animations in scratch, and I wanted to get slightly ambitious as to just how good of a game I could try and make using it.
(read my about me if you want to learn more)

Like I said earlier, in order for this game to feel immersive, I have created a story to go along with it. Just like any other first person shooter with a story, this game will have characters that interact with each other, both in the cutscenes and in the gameplay itself. And that is where you, the reader, have the chance to participate

there are a TON of characters. From the main characters, to background characters. All are important for the game's narrative and the player's experience. Even if it's just a single voice line, I still want it to sound the best it can possibly be, in order for it to feel real and believable.

(though really, I'll take anything that sounds decent, so don't feel too pressured)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING VOICE ACTING:

  • Be sure to have an "@" username first and foremost, as I can’t credit you're full name due to strict privacy policies on Scratch
(and... make sure its an appropriate name or else you'll definitely not get in)

  • If you sign up for a Lead or even main role, be sure to also keep in mind that there might be one more game after this, so if your character is in it, I would ask that you also voice act for that game as well as this one. Plans for a fourth game are in the works, but the script is not yet written. Some, if not most, main character roles are going to be in the fourth game, so if you're picked one of these roles, be prepared for other voice lines in the distant future after your initial set.
(If I think the character will be in the next game, I will make sure to let it be known in the role's description)

  • I don't have any other messaging social media's other then Discord and Gmail, so I would prefer to have the voice lines be sent that way
(If you're the one that reaches out, please send message requests, not friend requests. Thank you)

  • Some voice lines might change or get replaced, if this happens, I will let you know

  • I am brand new to this site (so I might not know the best ways to do things)

  • This is an unpaid project, and should be just for fun. I might make it so people can donate, but there's no guarantee it'll make a profit, so just expect it to be unpaid for now

  • NOT ALL THE ROLES ARE LISTED! some have already been filled elsewhere, so some characters are obviously missing

Now that that's out of the way, here are some things to expect from VA'ing:

The lead cast of characters have a pretty specific personality to them, but the less main a character is, the more vague their personality will be. That being said, there are still some lines that will need to be said in a specific tone of voice in order to fit, so I will make sure to include then when I send you voice lines

IF you get picked I will reach out to you through DM's or Email, and basically I will give you your lines, as well as other lines to give some context as to how you'd respond naturally as if its and actual conversation

The game is set in a militaristic setting, as most of the characters are either soldiers, or people who work around or with soldiers. Depending on the line, some lines might be altered to sound like they are on a radio or wearing a helmet. Also there might (keyword MIGHT) be a lot of military terms your character has, so there's that as well
(I don't know enough military terms though, so we'll see)

There are also a LOT of fictional names for things like Planets, Aliens, Tech, Etc. So if you have trouble pronouncing then please let me know, but I should be able to clarify in advance if its TOO complicated

Now for a brief description of the actual game, before I wrap this up

In Trooper Down 3, players will have the chance to play a 5 level campaign, estimated to last around 40-50 minutes in length counting the animated cutscenes
Players will be fighting hostile alien lifeforms both on foot, and in the air.
Although the game is not truly 3d, the graphics and code will give the slight illusion that it is. Movement is restricted to only be where you look, but the character will sometimes move when scripted. The ground combat is most comparable to any type of arcade shooter, and the air combat is comparable to games like Star Fox

I'll try not to spoil the game's story to much, but some of the story is leaked in the character descriptions

However as far as the backstory goes, you can read a brief description of the lore I wrote here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vWeFiWyuhSH1O-Si1DPnSmzQFr6uK0270zIPczMwfl4/edit?usp=sharing

That is all for the description. I'll definitely add updates and stuff from time to time

Thank you for checking my project out, and as always, have a nice day

Latest Updates

  • Maybe the final update?

Hi guys. Wow... I just have to say THANK YOU to all of these new submissions! This is actually so cool! I've been checking this site less and less as I've shifted focus to development of Trooper Down 2's remake, but I've still been checking in as much as I can!

Ok, so I completely forgot I set the deadline to yesterday, so I've extended it to Monday in case there was anyone else who would want to get a final audition in.

I've already started to pick a few people for roles. And If you auditioned but don't get picked for the role, I will STILL try and get as many of you in the game as I can.
(It might make my discord friend's list a little bigger but that's ok)

Trooper Down 2 is coming along quick so that means Trooper Down 3 is about to resume is development. I'll be reaching out to as many of you as I can, and with that, I think there is nothing much else to say before this project hits its new deadline

Thanks again so much for all of your amazing auditions! I look forward to allowing you guys to bring this project to life
    -Jor

  • Second Update

Hi all! I'm back with a new announcement! This one is important.

1: I am going to start picking roles soon!
Please do note that if you DONT get picked, you can still voice act regardless! My goal is to try to get all of you in somehow. Some roles have still gone un-auditioned too so I hope some more people show up soon

2: The deadline has been SHORTENED to the first Saturday of September. If not every role is picked by then, I'll probably make a new project for new roles anyway, and speaking of:

    3: NEW ROLES!!
They'll start to appear here and there, but be on the lookout

    AND FINALLY!
I am currently working on a shorter game that takes place before Trooper Down 3! Don't worry, Trooper Down 3 will sill happen, I've just decided to do this one first. MANY new roles will be available for that, and for the most part they are actually unnamed roles. So I'll either add some to this project, or message people asking if they'd like to do extra minor roles before playing a much bigger role later. The game does have a bit of a deadline though, but it wont be for a while so just be prepared.

That is pretty much it! I'll be reaching out to some of you soon!
Thanks again so much for taking interest in this project, I look forward to giving you all lines!

  • First update

    Hi all, Jor here

First and foremost I would just like to thank you all for auditioning! I haven't commented on any Audition yet, but I have been listening. You are all very talented and I am honored that you all took the time to audition.

Some of you have nailed the voice that you auditioned for, however I was going to wait pick roles until I could tell the new auditions were starting to slow down. Well it looks like that has started to happen a lot sooner then I thought. So I might reach out in a few days, who knows.

Another thing I wanted to point out, is that I might shorten the deadline a bit, just because there's an off chance it gets more auditions to come in.

just a reminder that I'm not 100% done writing the script too, so it might be a few weeks until I start sending lines if you get picked.

Some roles have not been auditioned for yet, and I still could use a lot more people for background roles. But with that being said I have a great feeling about all of this. Thank you all again for auditioning. This really will help to bring the project to life

Zach
open
Unpaid

Zach is one of the main protagonists of this game. In fact he IS the player for most of the missions. The way I wrote Zach was to be in such a way that mirrors the player's experience almost. Zach is the new guy of Experimental unit 22195. His knowledge in enemy behavior makes him ideal for Field Analysis. Zach has prior training in advanced combat, but has never actually been in a battle before.

What makes Zach unique is the fact that he knows more about the enemy more than pretty much anyone. He knows their habits, and even has his own theories on the way they strategize. His first mission will take him into one of the first alien encounters reported in the last several months. He does not believe this is a subtle attack, and thinks the enemy might be planning something big like they have in the past. He is mostly nervous sounding, however in an argument, he will make himself CRYSTAL clear on how bad things are. Very few people actually believe him with this.

The whole concept of an on-rail arcade style first person shooter is that you have no control on where you are going. All you have is a gun, and a will to survive. This is how Zach feels, and its why this story should feel so immersive. It's because of how much the players can relate. There is no stopping what is to come, but there is a way to survive it.

If you wish to voice Zach, be prepared to have some of the most voice lines out of any character, and also be prepared for a potential sequel that you will also possibly be in.

Bruce

Bruce is the weapons specialist of the squad. Most, if not all of the squad's weaponry comes from his personalized arsenal. Most would assume he's just a support unit, and nothing more. But aside from his heavy armor and weapons he carries, he is also a natural leader second to Gavryn. Even when he isn't on the battlefield he is super observant.

Bruce doesn't say much when things are quiet, so his role doesn't have as many voice lines, but for the few times he does have a drawn out conversation, it's very impactful. On the flip side, he'll raise his voice slightly when in combat. Not in a enthusiastic manner, but more a assertive and informative tone

If you plan to voice Bruce, keep in mind that I'm not sure how many voice lines he'll have. It could be a lot, or it could be slightly less. There is definitely a possibility he will play a bigger role in the game after this

Rome
open
Unpaid

Rome is both the sharp shooter and the commando of the squad. He is second to Commander Gavyn when it comes to experience. He was part of what's known as the Blood Knife Coalition, a faction during a human war almost 30 years prior. The following war against the aliens made him battle hardened, much like his Commander.

Rome has a lot of experience. He doesn't just think things, he knows things. I wouldn't call him cocky or overconfident, rather, knowledgeable and experienced. He speaks with confidence, not with pride. He does do a bit of teasing at first, especially to Zach, but after the first 2-4 missions, when things really start to escalate, he begins to see how little he thought he knew the enemy, and more on how he underestimated Zach. It's then that he accepts Zach as the new member, and begins to tease less. The ending of the game is less than ideal for him, but he is willing to accept the challenge ahead.

If you plan to voice Rome, be prepared to not take the job lightly. Yes, he might seem like one of the coolest characters by far, but he plays a much bigger part in the story as whole. He is by no means an edgy "I'm better than everyone" kind of a character. In fact he deeply cares about most of his squad, even though it might not sound like it at first. When voicing him it is imperative that you speak with a calm, serious, confident, and deep sounding tone, rather than an overconfident ego-sounding tone.

He will most definitely be in a sequel if I ever make it, so also be prepared as he might have a bigger role to play in that.

  • (worried but also still calm) "Hold that thought, potential problem sighted. Enemy transports, 11 o'clock high and closing. Tess, you seein this?"

Lance
open
Unpaid

Lance is the demolition officer of the Squad. Explosives are his specialty and passion. Lance is a pretty chill character. He almost never argues, and always gets the job done without question. His personality is almost always that of a chill happy type personality. If he is worried, stressed, or angry he doesn't show it. He never speaks with a quiet deep voice like the others do, and even if he's really excited he will never raise his voice. He also has some humor here and there but never makes it distracting from the Job at hand.

If you plan to voice Lance, make sure to nail his personality, as you'll be speaking in the same tone for pretty much every line. There might be sometimes where he sounds a little confused and maybe a little worried, but not too much that it takes away from the overall "chillness" of his voice.

He will likely be in the follow up game, so be prepared to voice him there as well

Language:
  • english

  • (calm and slightly happy but in combat) "Nothing I can’t handle, dont worry about it."

  • (calm and informative) "Point is, I have a way to set off a remote detonation, if we make a clean enough getaway, we could bring down a lot of the enemy in the process."

General Vanguard
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Zachary Waltman

General Vanguard is the commanding officer in charge of pretty much every in-game operation. In almost every mission he'll have a handful of voice lines radioing in new orders or other inputs. The General has your typical deep voice for high ranking military characters. He'll never be in combat, so he'll almost never raise his voice (with one possible acceptation)

During the course of the game, he'll start to sound more and more stressed.

The general has a very important role in the storytelling of this game, as he'll both be loved and despised by the players. For one, he is in charge of everything, so he sees part of the bigger picture that you don't see. He should also come off as a competent leader at first. However on the flip side, he and Zach get into an argument during the very first cutscene. Zach warns him of the possibility everything the general asks is exactly what the enemy wants him to do. Zach tries to point out the arrogance he's been displaying over the last couple of weeks. The general disagrees with him and refuses to listen to any kind of warning. Be prepared for this kind of personality

If you plan to voice General Vanguard, you'll have a huge set of lines to record for the mission briefing scene. In this scene he basically goes over the entire operation and explains every single detail. If you are not good at recording many sentences all in one voice line without breaking character, its not suggested you take this role.

This character will not be in any sequel I have planned, but maybe just a brief cameo.

  • (angry but soft and not yelling but slowly starting to) "You’re a soldier now. You don’t make the orders, you follow them, and right now? your order is to get out of my office, and on with the mission."

  • (informative and explanatory) "Always good to hear. We have an update on the Escort mission. Squad X has secured the structure, but the people up there have some High Value Cargo, you must not allow a single transport to get shot down, understood?"

Dr. Tiffany Lynne

Tiffany is the lead researcher in charge of the investigation on the unknown structure in level one. After hours and hours of uninterrupted study, she made a huge breakthrough on deciphering the symbols and tech. What she discovered was game changing for every single human who had been stranded. This will bring some desperateness to her character. Unfortunately, just as she made this discovery, the operation to get all of the researchers back was ordered, so she could no longer stay.

She has to convince the General that what she found was legit, and asks the squad to hold out for a couple more minutes as they prepare everything to not be left behind.

Tiffany is smart and very passionate about her work. But most of the situations she is in will have her voice be serious and direct while she tries to convince everyone to stay, and then a little stressed as the clock starts ticking. Her role is only really in the first mission and maybe a little in the second, but her impact on making the situation seem dire is very important. Half the game revolves around what she has found, and she DOESNT want it to go to waste.

If you plan to voice this character, keep in mind the importance she brings. Most of the time she fits all the voice descriptions I just listed, however there is one or two important parts where she'll be a little excited and relieved, as well as fascinated as well

she likely won't play as big of a role in the sequel, but she might have a small appearance so be prepared for that

commander Talon
open
Unpaid

Commander Talon is the leader of Viking squadron, one of the main fighter squadrons of the ODG Valkyrie.

Talon is one of the other few characters you get to play as, although only for one mission.

Talon isn't like most of the leader-type characters I've listed. He used to have confidence, and tries so hard to sound confident, but deep down he knows that each time he goes up in his fighter, there might not be a chance for him to safely come back down. He's skilled, but sometimes he thinks that flight combat is more a matter of luck and odds rather than skill.

Most of his fear is kept a secret, but one of the first scenes he's in will mention a little bit about this fear, as he explains it to his friend Rookie (who is also a pilot.) This scene is in no way supposed to be overdramatic and super emotional, rather than just kind of subtle. There will still likely be some emotion involved, but not that heavy.

halfway through the 2nd mission, something really really big takes place, and things become frantic for him and his squadron. This is when he begins to show signs of worry as he frantically thinks on what to do in this situation. His tone is that of stress for the most part, but he still keeps a serious, almost assertive tone to his voice. After all he is trying to keep everyone with him alive, and wants to be clear and not come out as worried.

Commander Talon is a very important role, as I wanted him to be different from most leader characters. If you want to voice this character, keep all of that in mind. You are voicing one of the most impactful characters of the drawn out story that is being told across 3 different games. Commander Talon will not only be in a possible sequel, but also a possible remake of Trooper Down 2, where he first appeared. He will have a decent amount of voice lines but isn't gonna be in too many scenes or levels.

Rookie
open

Rookie is currently unnamed, and the term "Rookie" is actually referring to his call sign given by the squadron. Rookie was originally this overconfident, "I can handle anything" type character in Trooper Down 2, and to some extent he still is for part of this game. Rookie is Talon's closest wingman, as well as his closest friend. Rookie was new to flying and eager to see some action, and while getting stuck in an alien system wasn't really what he had in mind, he didn't complain.

Rookie's personality seemingly didn't change one bit, despite the games being 793 days apart, however his character goes through a bit of a change as he, in some way, matures a little. Commander Talon explains why he feels so incompetent, and after learning that the person he looked up to was unsure of himself, it was a slight eye opener for Rookie

Halfway through the mission, when everything turns south very quickly Rookie goes from enthusiastic and overconfident to dead silence as he is in a state of shock for pretty much the rest of the game

If you plan on voicing this character, he'll probably be the most "fun" so to speak. As mentioned, he has a cocky, overconfident tone of voice. He wont have as many voice lines, but he will possibly be in a sequel and a prequel game.

Air Traffic Controller

Just like Rookie, I haven't named this character yet. She is the Air Traffic Controller of Junefield, the central operations base of Alpha-0

She's a pretty minor role, but in no way is a "background character"

I'm trying to get her as many lines as I can. Basically she'll almost always be on the radio with the other characters, both in the cutscenes and the levels.

She mostly has a positive attitude, and even jokes around a few times (especially with Tessa, the squad's pilot)

Most of her lines are also just meant to sound cool over the radio.

If you plan to voice her, you wont need to worry about any sequels or prequels as I think she'll just appear once.

even if you get a main role, feel free to try out for these roles as well

Notable roles might include:

Transport pilots

Viking Squadron pilots

Bomber pilots (in a brief yet important section)

If you would like to audition for any background role, you wont need to worry about being in character constantly, but be prepared to still sound dramatic, worried, calm, etc. Sometimes your character might also die, so also be prepared to scream in agony if you have to

Much like the background pilots, these will be the troopers in the background of the game, especially in combat situations.

once again, even if you get a main role, feel free to try out for these roles as well

Some background Troopers might play a semi-big role in missions, either being a commander or just someone who speaks a lot during the level

Like the pilots, you won't have to worry about staying in character for as long, but you will still have to meet some requirements depending on the role

These roles will not be in any sequel or prequel game

Roy is a another scientist role in Trooper Down. He currently only has a cameo in Trooper Down 3, however, he will be a major part of a more upcoming game, the remake of Trooper Down 2.

Roy is a bit paranoid in the first part that you meet him, as he thinks his lab is about to be attacked. There's a sense of urgency to his tone, but he calms down very quickly, only to have a more normal sounding voice.

If you want to voice Roy, he'll have a TON of different tones of voice, and as he appears in different games, will likely change substantially. He wont have as many lines but still might have quite a few
