So, due to budgeting constraints, a cut plot line from Trails of Cold Steel got turned into a Drama CD. (The final game has a cutscene that
basically recaps what happens, but doesn't cover everything.) Said Drama
CD was Japan only, but there's an official English translation of it on
the (second) game's website. However, there's no dub of the Drama CD.
So I decided to try my hand at making one.
...Oh, yeah. This contains spoilers since it heavily involves the main
character's backstory, chronologically occurs right before the beginning
of the final arc of the game, and discusses the arc right before it. So
yeah. If you wanna play this unspoiled, I would probably not work on it.
I'll have a group Discord set up once things are settled down.
Please have a clean sounding mic as well.
(Please do not contact the official VA's about working on this- I know
some of them interact with the fandom, but I can't afford to pay them,
or pay for a lawyer if I get into legal trouble because of it. You're
free to message them about it though if you think they'd like to see
it.)
The main character of Cold Steel. Is Class VII's de facto leader, but lacks faith in himself. Sounds like an average teenage boy. Mid-range. Name rhymes with "Bean."
(annoyed) "Please keep all thoughts relating to my sister and your raging libido to yourself, thanks."
(Encouraging)
"We CAN beat this thing. Let's do it!"
(Calmly)
"Who I am is something I can only find out
myself, and that's after struggling to find that answer—after never
looking away from that answer or refusing to accept it, no matter what
it may turn out to be."
A kindhearted, yet short-tempered young woman from Class VII. Sort of shrill sounding? I dunno.
(annoyed) "That is exactly why I'm glad we AREN'T sharing rooms, you know."
(proudly) "Aaall done. See? I barely did a thing, and she's still like an entirely new Emma. What do you guys think?"
(encouraging) "You don't have to deal with all your worries alone anymore, Rean. You've got us, right?"
A shy member of Class VII who loves music. Very young sounding.
"Originally, the plan was to tell everyone as
soon as we got back from our field study, but then this whole thing
ended up happening. Kinda threw us off, you know?"
(cheerfully, with a scary smile) "Oh, don't worry. You'll get the hang of your instruments, all right. Failure isn't going to be an option."
(excited) "S-See? I knew I wouldn't be alone on this!
Like I said, we're gonna need to make an impact if we want to beat Class
I...and you DO want to beat them, right?"
The Vice President of Class VII. Short -tempered and has an intense rivalry with Jusis. Sounds...intense, yet nerdy? He's got a stick up his butt, that's for sure. Mid-low range.
(annoyed) "It'll take more than a change of scenery to get these two to give up their usual degenerate ways."
"I take it this meeting means you've ironed out all the details on the
concert? I have a vague idea at best, but it's not like we've heard
anything beyond the basics."
(angrily) "I-Is this some kind of a sick joke?! You want me to sing with HIM?!"
Son of Duke Albarea, one of the High Families of Erebonia. Quiet and prideful, but cares for his teammates (even Machias). Dignified sounding. Mid-low range. Name is pronounced "Eusis" or with a silent J.
"I think it's about time you told us what we're actually doing, don't you?"
"I thought you knew us better than that, Rean.
We've been with you for far too long to second-guess staying that way
over something so trivial."
(annoyed) "Impossible. The Empire hasn't yet turned out a man desperate enough to woo that alcoholic typhoon."
The daughter of Viscount Arseid of Legram. Serious and Dignified sounding. Low range.
"The design is within the realms of good taste,
in my opinion. Would you mind if I took a look at the original drafts?
I'm rather curious after the way you put it."
(proudly) "I've never been one to shy away from a challenge, and I don't intend to start now. Besides, I have all of you with me."
(serious) "Fear not. Your end will be swift and painless."
A boy from the furthest reaches of Erebonia. Very calm and serious, and basically everyone's big brother. Has a deep voice.
"We might've figured out the vocals, but I have
my concerns about the instruments. I'm not even familiar with what a
bassist is, much less how to play one."
(serious) "It's clear the society as a whole has a completely
different goal of their own—one they're even willing to aid terrorists
in order to achieve."
(cheerfully) "Haha. I wouldn't say it's limited to the aristocracy. Hunting's popular back home, too."
Class VII's Class President. Intelligent and kindhearted, but may know more than she lets on. Mid-high range.
"The vegetables and herbs used in all of the cooking are so luscious and colorful, Rean. Were these all raised by your mother?"
(nervous) "But what about this outfit? Do I really have to sing on stage wearing something so revealing?"
"[Quietly to herself] I can feel the presence of spirits on this mountain. Something couldn't be sealed here...could it?"
Class VII's second-youngest member. Stoic and sarcastic, but a bit of a tease. She's 15 and sounds it. Middle-high range.
(totally serious) "How about blowing it up? That might return things to normal."
"That makes me and Millium the backup dancers,
huh? Then... [Surprised] ...the first song will be sung by Machias and
Jusis, and the second by Emma...?"
(annoyed) "And don't lie—you totally showed up where we were half the time. I bet you got to sample all kinds of local dishes."
(Cheerfully) "It kills me to agree with her, but this village is
very picturesque. Like the kind of cozy little hideaway where you can
sit back and take in the scenery while drinking the day away."
(Serious) "Looks that way from where I'm standing. They lost
all of their key members at the mine when that airship exploded, so
unless there were others that we aren't aware of, I think we can safely
say they're done for good."
(Cheerfully) "Haha. Maaaybe you guys didn't get as much R&R as
we planned, but eh, I'd still say you kids got something worthwhile out
of this whole shindig."
(scolding) "No, you won't! Students aren't allowed to drink alcohol. You know that!"
(cheerfully)"Heehee. I really hope the academy festival turns out
to be fun for everyone. The fact that the national situation's finally
calmed down a little gives us the chance to really focus on it, right?"
"[Disappointed] And I was rather hoping all the
ladies could be in one room for some quality female bonding time. I
suppose you can't have everything..."
"[Nostalgically] There's a lot that you can't do on
your own, but if you got enough friends you can trust? Not even the
sky's the limit. You know the feeling, right, Rean?"
(annoyed) "My being here should come as no surprise to you
whatsoever. As the eldest daughter of the family, welcoming all of you
is my duty."
(shocked) "Mother! Th-That's not fair! I've been restraining myself all this time because of everyone else being there, and here you are—"
"What's it been? Three years since she found out he was adopted? Takes me back to how she was always like this before then."
"Who knows is right... With the way the Empire
is now, I just hope the children here even have the chance to live the
futures they want."
"My, my. She insists on going to St. Astraia so
she can be away from him, and then the second they're both home, she
doesn't want him out of her sight."
"Oh, you can be such a child sometimes! ...Well, even
if it doesn't work out between the two of them, it sounds like he has
more than enough potential sweethearts at the academy. Who knows what
the future holds?"
A mysterious man known for extravagant thefts. Dramatic and extravagant sounding. Middle-low range.
(Playfully) "Tsk, tsk, Rean! Is that really the question you
should be asking? I think not. What you should be asking is this: "Why
have you taken such an interest in me?""
(Proudly) "We of Ouroboros live and work in the shadows of
history—we have no interest in the ideals of terrorists. We did,
however, have an interest in the result their actions would bring about,
and as such chose to give them a little helping hand."
(Mysteriously) "But bear in mind that no one can hide from their own
destiny...and I look forward to finding out what truths you all discover
when the fateful moment comes."
I need someone who knows how to do proper mixing- I sort of know how to do it, but I'm an amateur.
Say something you think would fit
I want there to be portraits of the characters in the final video, sort of like in Echo Six's readthrough of the drama cd. (seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruZR19fbdns) However, I want something better than photoshopped versions of the menu art. I'll be fine if they're in a slightly different style than the game art- as long as it meshes with it.
I can also just do this role myself, but I'm already planning on being the video editor, so that's a lot on my plate to begin with.
