The Spectacular Spider-Man Continued Geography 101 (SpectacleStars)

The Spectacular Spider-Man Continued Geography 101 (SpectacleStars)

Project Overview

The Spectacular Spider-Man TV series was prematurely cancelled after two seasons, running from 2008-2009. However that all changes now (kinda)! We're SpectacleStars, a relatively small but ever-growing team of writers, artists, animators, voice actors, composers, etc., making our own fan-made continuation of this beloved series!

The first major project we are working on as of now is an animatic/animated movie, The Spectacular Spider-Man: Geography 101, which takes place between the most-recent season of the series before it was cancelled (Season 2) and our own Season 3 continuation!

We currently have a few recastings for VAs open, and we are still very much in need of various other parts of production, such as Artists, Animators, Editors, Sound Designers, and more, so make sure to check out our open roles!

We will be accepting applications for Artists, Animators, Editors, Sound Designers, and any other potential non-VA production staff roles on a rolling basis, so if the project page closes or expires, feel free to DM us on here or on our Instagram as well! We'll also be rolling over the project page on here as well, more or less until the job is done!

You can find us on Discord, Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok, so if you're curious to see what we've come up with up until now, feel free to check them out! (Our Discord server and and Insta are our most active spots for sure, though)

MOVIE SYNOPSIS

The life of our favorite webslinger is at a turning point, following the death of Norman Osborn, The Green Goblin. Spider-Man's relationship with the police has deteriorated as he is implicated in killing The Goblin, who has been publicly exposed to be Norman. Peter has to deal with Harry and Gwen together as a couple while he is completely alone. When Harry invites him and most of the students at Midtown High to a spring break trip to Miami, it seems as if he'll be able to take his mind off the situation he's in. However... trouble always has a way of finding Spidey, especially while there is a frustrated Kraven there hunting The Lizard! But is there anything more to this?

  • Update and Progress

Thanks to everyone who has submitted an audition thus far! We'll be extending the deadline on a rolling basis so that more people may find the project and submit auditions.

Also, we're aware of many brand new CCC accounts that are commenting on the project but aren't submitting an actual audition. Any that do this will NOT be considered seriously for the project. We have it on good authority that they are probably scammer accounts if they have a similar stock AI-generated text pitch and a telegram link. We will not engage with you, so please stop.

An opening due to an unforeseen departure!

We are looking for a voice match to the original VA, Cree Summer!!

A bit of a shrill, somewhat raspy female voice is needed here. Glory is outgoing, eccentric, and fun-loving as a character overall.

See sample lines below

Please reference clips of Glory in the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series at the link here https://youtu.be/BYtEmQpt-bg for a template! :D

  • [disapproving of immature boyfriend, annoyed] "Grow up, Kenny. Why would I date someone too immature to play fair?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYtEmQpt-bg 0:00))

  • [teasing, fake swooning] "Wow, who knew being so rich was so tough?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYtEmQpt-bg 0:21)

  • [Shakespearean, playing in MacBeth] "By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYtEmQpt-bg 2:12)

We are looking for an Assistant Voice Director to assist with the directing, recording, and editing of voice acting lines by our many talented VAs in our cast!

We are looking for some amount of experience here. If you have only amateur voice acted BUT have some level of acting/theatre experience, that would be a plus for consideration.

Good candidates will be able to:

  • Oversee virtual recording sessions with or without the head Voice Director, giving direction on delivery, cadence, annunciation, emphasis, tone, etc. (especially with attention to the original portrayals of characters from Season 1 and Season 2)
  • Cut down and separate voice lines and takes, also the ability to edit voice lines is a plus.
  • Maintain DM conversations with multiple Voice Actors, keeping up with progress on recordings (if the VA records on their own), editing, direction questions, etc.
  • Draft or maintain documents or spreadsheets for tracking progress of Voice Actors
  • Take a script and produce Line Read Sheets for each VA and their character(s). (All sheets for Geography 101 are already produced, but having this ability will be crucial down the line as we move onto our Season 3 continuation.)
  • Oversee castings and recasting with the head Voice Director when applicable, though final decisions will be made as a collective effort between team leadership.
  • Record and compile reels of performances from the original VAs for characters in Season 1 and Season 2 of the original series, in order for our VAs to have a reference. The head Voice Director will show you how to do this.
  • Utilize Discord, as it is our main source of communication among the team. We need communication to be open and frequent on the platform in order to foster a productive working relationship.

Prior viewing of the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series is not required, but is certainly a big plus. If the candidate has not seen the show, they will be required to view it in order to familiarize themselves with the various returning voice types that they will be working with.

If you have any questions at all, you can DM the team account here on CCC or on Instagram!

Similar to the Producer role posted here, but if you're an animator by trade with knowledge of animation pipelines, this role could be for you!

We are looking for someone with a background in animation and animation pipelines who could be of great help to manage the progress of our Art/Animation Department, and has the know-how to get the animation from a blank page all the way to a finished deal! Storyboards, animatic, backgrounding, layout, key animation, cleanup/in-between, digital ink and paint, compositing, you'll oversee all of these!

We have a team of 25+ artists and animators of various skillsets, and a core of about 4 Lead Artists/Lead Animators who are our bedrock in terms of expertise and input on the team.

That said, since we've been a passion project for so many years and these 4 magnificent individuals have IRL stuff to deal with, it has usually been a rotation of a few of them being present to oversee things at once.

And while all of them of them can produce breathtaking results with regards to the art and animation, we could really use another individual who is familiar with the nuances of an animation pipeline, and is able to juggle the demands with overseeing the day-to-day management of an entire team or department of artists and animators, including various tasks such as DM check-ins, progress management, holding voice chat meetings, quality assurance, etc.

Even if you are not adept with the animation style of the Spectacular Spider-Man at the moment, deferring to our veteran leads for the quality assurance portion of this role as needed is absolutely possible.

However, a MASSIVE plus here would be submitting an audition with both:
- a finished animation sample (made on a team or individually), and

- a voice message and/or list of your prior work and background experience

While this role would not be paid at the beginning, we are working to get more of our Leads' time by paying them once crowdfunding is a-go and this would be an extension of that as well.

DISCLAIMER: READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BELOW AND DETERMINE WHETHER THIS ROLE FITS YOUR SKILLSET AND EXPERIENCE BEFORE APPLYING. We will not consider anybody from Instagram or other social media who are fans of Spider-Man or SSM and simply saw our project, got excited, and "wanted to help out in any way they could" ;P While we are absolutely grateful of support like this, simply being a fan of SSM is not enough for a role of this magnitude. We need those with experience and drive here for sure.

We are looking for additional organized and responsible hands who are willing to do some of the more "managerial" side of production, which can include any number of tasks that our producers/execs normally undertake.

Having prior experience with overseeing other productions or projects is something we'd be very keen on with this role, and being proficient with the more "nitty gritty" tasks would be huge here as well.

Something our team could also potentially use is further knowledge with building or maintaining "team culture" in a virtual environment, as we have our own methods that we've developed over time but would be very open to additional insight. Though, this is not necessarily a mandatory thing.

Because of the importance and higher-up nature of a role like this, building trust with the current management staff will be king with whomever would take on this role, as we have a team of producers in place that has been around for a few years, and welcoming newcomers into this kind of fold will likely be a slow process. But as trust is built, confidence is built as well :D

Lastly, this role is not a "creative" one in any general sense. Our producers on the writing team oversee the direction that the project goes in narratively, our voice directing producers handle castings and voice direction, and our producers that are artist/animator leaders will oversee the visual aspects of the production.

Normally, people will have a certain niche expertise in one of the usual fields for animation production where they developed management experience over top of it, and that original expertise will be immensely helpful in addition to the skills we're looking for in this role.
That said, decisions on the creative direction of the project aren't something that we're looking for in this role. If you happen to pitch something, it will obviously be considered and might even be used! But at the same time, compromise is key on a team of our size, and something that you specifically would want to see in the show won't necessarily be something that the writers have in mind or that the original writers Greg Weisman and Victor Cook intended.

Various tasks for this kind of role can include (but are absolutely not limited to):

- DMing team members for regular check-ins, whether it be for a department or on a certain task

- Overseeing announcements to team members

- Monitoring progress of various departments

- Drafting documents or spreadsheets for different plans or tracking progress of team members

- scheduling and hosting various team meetings, especially with a huge variety of team members' time zones kept in mind

- Potential social media tasks or management if that is a strength

To submit an audition for this role, drop a link to your portfolio, and also include a demonstration of the Spectacular Spider-Man art style (preferably of a human character that is not Peter Parker or Spider-Man) for us to review!

Animators on our project have a variety of options when it comes to what art/animation programs they can use. Sequences will mostly be made up of animatic style scenes (image based), similar to a motion comic, with the exception of occasional animated scenes being utilized in more action-heavy sequences. Due to this, as long as you have an art program that you are accustomed to, you can join this project as an animator (provided that you are chosen) with little actual frame-by-frame animation experience, and are not required to own any industry standard software. As for FULL animation, experience with ToonBoom Harmony and ToonBoom Storyboard Pro is highly recommended but is not a requirement. Experience with Blender Grease Pencil is also highly encouraged if ToonBoom is not available to you, but once again, it is not a hard requirement. As long as the assets that are produced by our animators are able to be converted and utilized later on for the project, any program you prefer should work as long as we sort out the conversion details beforehand for consistency, flow, and Quality Assurance purposes!

Also, if any of our newcomers are unsure of how to use ToonBoom or want to learn how to use it, our lead animators can absolutely help bring them up to speed on the software and teach them the basics of it if needed as well!

We are also currently in progress on storyboarding our movie. As mentioned above, as long as you have an art program or experience with ToonBoom Storyboard Pro, you can join as a storyboarder. Additionally, if your strengths lie in traditional art, feel free to audition as a storyboarder, as a digital art program is not necessarily required to fill in the role. While we are not actively looking for concept artists, submissions once you're in the role are welcome!

For any other questions, make sure to send us a message on here or on Instagram. Thanks!!
