The SOS Brigade's New Member (A Haruhi Satire Series)
Project Overview
This is my Haruhi Suzumiya satire self insert series! It follows the plot of the SOS Brigade getting a new member who happens to be one cool dude from America. Unfamiliar with this side of the world apart from the language, he decides to check out the literary club. What follows next is history...
This video series will include light rom com themes and interpersonal relations between all the Brigade members. Uncovering the possible problems, feelings, and drama that arise when someone new steps into frame.
REQUIREMENTS
You must be 18+ to audition
You must have a Discord account to communicate with the director and staff
Please use a standalone USB or XLR microphone (no phone recordings please!)
Have a well treated recording environment with no background noise
Live Direction sessions are mandated in this project. We will schedule times to record live alongside you while giving live feedback to your reads.
SUBMISSION
Please do 2-3 takes per line.
Auditions must be in ABCABC format.

The leader of the SOS Brigade
Haruhi's personality may be described as overpowering.
Haruhi is a blunt and bossy person, consistently expecting others to either obey or submit to her. She is bright, energetic, and athletic, excelling at both academics and athletics in school. She alternates between melancholy and incredible optimism, often unpredictably due to her hesitation to share her feelings with others.

(Declaring) I’m not interested in ordinary people. But if any of you are aliens, time-travelers or espers, please come see me. That is all.
(Eager) Hey you're free right? Good, then meet us at 2:00pm infront of the station.
(Blind confidence) You must be ready at any point to leave, answer my questions, or follow my orders! You’re in the room of the SOS Brigade, and I am their leader after all!!
Mikuru Asahina, a shy and timid girl with a childish naïveté, is the only character other than Kyon to be brought into the SOS Brigade against her will. She easily gets scared or flustered, and is apparently prone to daydreaming as she can also be rather clumsy at times. Nevertheless, she can be surprisingly resilient and is capable of recovering from even the most discomforting of situations. However, because of her gentle nature she seems rather helpless most of the time.

(Playfully keeping a secret) *Cheeky laugh* That's classified :)
(Quivering scared while holding fake gun) You should never shoot this while pointing at other people, *subtle cry* you should only shoot empty cans with it!
She is the silent one of the SOS Bridage and only speaks when she has to. Robotic and Almost non human. Nagato has limited social abilities, something she claims will affect her until she ceases functioning. She rarely speaks, often either ignoring attempts to communicate or using gestures like nods, staring or pointing, or giving one word replies.

(Taking charge and introducing herself) I am the president of the literary club. I loan this room out to Miss Suzumiya for extra curricular activities of hers. If you would like to read you are welcome to take a book from the shelf and read it over here by me.
(Blunt, Exposition) Any alteration of the regional climate could possibly have devastating aftereffects on the ecosystem of the planet.
(Apologetic and sincere but still monotone) I only have the two cushions, including mine.
Itsuki Koizumi is the enigmatic tease and enabler of the group.
Koizumi has an unflappable, polite and affable manner and likes to go into long lectures and explanations with very expressive hand gestures.

(Explaining, Mysterious) Miss Suzumiya was interested because it's a deserted island that's privately owned. She said it was a closed circle or something.
(Playful intrigue) I get the feeling that the other two have already talked to you about her, am I right?
(Convining, Sly) Hey Haruhi, if I were you I’d suspend my beliefs. I remember him doing his introduction in my class. He said he’s been in the US all his life. Doesn’t that strike you as mysterious, at least more mysterious of a transfer student than I am.
SOS Brigade straight man
Kyon's most obvious characteristic is his snarky and cynical manner, which he often uses to hide his true emotions. This results in contradictions between his stated desires and his actions, which he usually rationalizes by claiming that he was coerced into his own actions.

(Snarky, Cynical) Okay, asking somebody how long they believed in Santa Claus is so stupid; you can't even consider that topic suitable for idle conversation. But if you still wanna know how long I believed in some old fat guy who wears a funky red suit, I can tell you this: I've never believed in him. Ever.
(Narration, thinking to self) Ever since that day, talking to Haruhi right before homeroom started becoming sort of a ritual.
(Confused, Snappy) I don’t get it Haruhi. Everyone is here, did you invite Miss Tsuruya or my sister without telling me?
Supporting Role
Mikuru Asahina's best friend. She tends to be hyperactive and has a very loud voice. She is friendly and laughs a lot. Her sharp tooth gives her an idiosyncratic speech pattern, causing her to say things wrong and leave out syllables. Her speech is often accompanied with a lisp and her catch phrase: "Nyoron~" She also refers to the members of the Brigade in different ways, as in referring to Haruhi as "Haru-nyan". She also really enjoys eating smoked cheese and is constantly talking about it.

(Introducing, Playfully curious) So you're Kyon? I hear a lot about you from Mikuru!
(Laughing Gleefully, Banter) I can't take you seriously when you're dressed like that! I'm sorry, Mikuru!
(Friendly Rivalry, Challenging) Surely you aren't suggesting we aren't allowed to come shopping here, are you?
Supporting Role
She speaks in a soft, easing, almost motherly manner, but isn't afraid to speak up and make her voice heard. A highly social high school student and the class president for Haruhi Suzumiya's homeroom class. She is Yuki's best friend and willing to help her when necessary, but also hopes Yuki will become more assertive. She often acts as Nagato's pseudo big sister, living in the same apartment complex as her and often cooking for the both of them. She is good friends with Kyon but is the most distant from the whole SOS Brigade.

(Pridefully defending honor) If I allow people to mock north high, then I'm also allowing them to mock me. The class representative.
(Teasing, Lightheartedly) Oh, Incredible. That is some high level flirting
(Scary, Psychotic, but not actually evil) I teach, and you learn. Do we understand each other, do we?
