Penguin Souls - The Bus Stop - Highway Penguin Abridged
Project Overview
The Project
The Pet Penguin Society is a relatively new group that is starting off with our first abridging project which is the 2018 anime film, Highway Penguin. Reimagined to create a mini-series of shorts that would be compiled into a short abridging film after the finale. The first short is The Bus Stop which introduces the main leads Aoyama, Lady, and Penta the Penguin, along with their dynamic which would play out throughout the entire series. The dialogue contains a hint of metamaterial and dynamics between the leads that would require a cold reading.
Requirements
1. Have a decent microphone (XLR preferred, but USB can work if you make it sound good)
2. You can edit your audition lines if you prefer, but if you upload them raw (no editing, noise removal, bass boost, etc.) that is fine as well. Just try not to have any reverb.
3. Be at least 18 years old. There are a few adult-oriented jokes and a bit of swearing in these videos.
4. Be able to use Discord for directing purposes, as well as be open to direction/live directing.
5. Audition with 3 takes of each line, or attach your demo reel along with it if you think you can do the voice needed.
6. Be committed! This character will show up more in the future, so just an open line of communication for the project is needed, or be open to joining our project's discord group.
Voice Actor
Aoyama has an investigative personality which is encouraged by his father, although jaded toward strangers he is able to warm up to the idea of making new friends. The character has a variety of quirks which include: overanalyzing and reporting new findings in journals, a pre-pubescent fascination about boobs (watch the movie) and ability to be deadpan in hostile situations.
(deadpan) "So, this is the life of a Middle School Student. I already can’t wait for High School; At least the bullying there is more cyber than physical."
(Reflective) "Y'know there's something about boobs that fascinates me, Uchida. I just can't put my finger on what it is."
(tearful) "It was fun, hanging out with you while it lasted. I-I just wish, that I didn't have to say goodbye."
Voice Actor
Lady is a carefree individual who works as a nurse at the local dentist but resents children. Recovering from her childhood abandonment issues, she establishes a strong connection with Aoyama and his quirks as the story progresses, revealing her ability to transform inanimate objects into Penguins during the day and Bats at night. She also has a habit of singing/humming her self-made nursery rhymes whenever she performs a monotonous task.
(Sarcastic) "Now, are you gonna give me a soda, oh wise young vending machine boy?"
(Frantic) "Look, I just wanted to play catch with my pa and knit sweaters with my ma; Was that too much to ask?"
(Laughing) "Are you kidding me? Kids are the fucking pits man. Might as well strap on the ball and chain am I right?"
Voice Actor
Penta is an inanimate object who was forcibly transformed into a Penguin by Lady. Knowing his existence is a lie, is eternally questioning on how he exists within the world. Penta will serve kind of like a Garfield role within the story, whereas the audience can hear him the characters within the story cannot.
(Disturbed) "Because unlike you kid! My existence is a complete fucking lie!"
(Threatening) "If you come any closer, I will shove a salmon's tail up your god damn urethra!"
(Paranoid) "Why do I exist! What is the point of my existence, if I'm just going to be recycled into tomorrow's garbage?!"
