80 Days 'Til the World's Farthest Shore
Project Overview
This story is told in a Old-world stylized tavern with setting appropriate mentions of drink (hot spiced mead) and we as readers are the audience to a fireside tale about a tale, it's vague and ephemeral in the telling, like things happen, but not in a concrete a-to-b format. In short the first Narrator to us is Johannes (though we don't know his name at first), a prime adult at the start and finish of this fic, but some years younger at the time the tale was related to him by the mysterious traveller.
The Traveller tells of meeting a Princess who claims to be from a different world, and how she found herself guiding/travelling with her on an eighty-day trek from her home in the university/capitol city to a place that is a sort of in-between places called "the well" it is a grueling journey kind of like in a good DnD campaign or the journey of Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings. There's no evil entity or dangerous monstrosities, but the road isn't without peril. Oh and fair warning there are brief mentions of darker subject matter, though more in a historical fiction sort of way versus explicit horror/shock value gratuitous graphics. The traveller smoked in her youth, but it's not clear if she still does. But the drink, smoke, and darkness are more set pieces than foreground elements to the tale being related.
If anything this story is the sort that follows the ancient oral legends versus modern fantasy books that often have very clear quests, heroes, etc.

I first met the Princess in Venaria. I was—and hopefully may yet be again—a student at the School of Magic there, and encountered her in front of the gates. She was distraught. I’ll always remember how she turned to me when I tried to enter for class. She asked all sorts of questions—who lived here? Who raised the sun, and who shepherded the moon in its course? Did I know of any of the names she began to spout, one after another? I tried, feeling nervous, to deny that I knew of what she spoke. This only served to make her more manic.
I know I have not managed to convey what I mean. All through this telling, I have again and again been reminded that no one will hear my words and truly comprehend what it was to travel alongside her. Even if I wrote it down and the words filled volume after volume, still the reader would close the tome, look up at a mundane if beautiful world and say, what a story! And that will be that.
Voice Actor
The audience to the traveler's tale, but perhaps retelling the tale to us. It's a bit unclear in the story. What is clear is that the Traveler's tale was a quasi-religious experience for him. It clearly happened, but what exactly "it" was is unclear.
*edit: I personally envision at the very beginning and very end of the story a somewhat older Johannes than the one who met the traveler, maybe not older as in creaky old man, but older like someone who has seen (or in this case experienced/heard) something so big that you aren't the same afterwards.

*I watched her as she sat at the bar, unblinking, and muttered something. Her accent was foreign. She pronounced each word with an alien care in a voice I found beautiful.
“The tale is long in the telling,” I said, not eager to break the silence. “Would you like to move to one of the tables? You could perhaps find a nice place to lean against the wall.”
And so, my friend, she gave me this book. I do not know what it is or what it means, and yet the symbols inside captivate me. What mean the six arrayed stones on its cover, or the noble unicorn of gold? I asked, and she only smiled and said that she would find out herself what they meant, or so she hoped. Or, no, she said she would meet them, stranger still.
Voice Actor
The Princess in the tale, her lines are less "she said this or that" but more memories of someone you knew long ago. Half-remembered stories and emotional vibes rather than concrete dialogue.
This role is less a functional part of the story and more a potential background for adding that bit of extra je ne sais quoi to the read.
