The New Cryptid Paranormal Adventures of Amateur Investigators

The New Cryptid Paranormal Adventures of Amateur Investigators

Project Overview

The New Cryptid Paranormal Adventures of Amateur Investigators is a reimagining of Cryptid Paranormal Investigators, originally created by Moral-Skull Productions. This new version will rewrite and retell a cohesive story, blending familiar characters with new faces, all under the umbrella of MetaChrome Studios, where our focus is on original audio dramas.

The series captures the spirit of classic monster-of-the-week shows like Scooby-Doo, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and Goosebumps, while also drawing inspiration from the eerie charm of old internet creepypastas. If you were once a creepypasta fan, this project is for you.

the story follows Zeke Batson, a teen reintegrating into the strange world around him after years of isolation. As he begins high school, Zeke meets new friends - Fauna and Naomi - and together they face a string of creepy, unsettling events that blur the lines between the paranormal and reality.

MetaChrome Studios’ Policies & Commitments:

  • We maintain a strict anti-bullying, anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia, and anti-racism policy.

  • We are committed to the fair employment of all voice actors, regardless of status or experience level.

  • All roles are for actors 18+ only.

  • Any character specified as POC must and will only be portrayed by POC actors.

This project is independently funded and committed to equitable, inclusive, and safe creative practices.

*Main cast*

A school-appointed chaperone assigned to observe and guide Zeke as he reintegrates into society. Sharp, disciplined, and very by-the-book, Fauna presents herself as professional and controlled. Of Indian descent, she carries an unspoken past of trauma - and possibly other motives beneath her composed exterior.

Voice Direction - Fauna’s professionalism and maturity should come through in tone and delivery. She speaks with authority, precision, and composure. Her demeanor is firm and occasionally stern, but not unkind - her words should feel measured, intentional, and rooted in experience.

- The first line will be a character introduction and will help determine if the character can be embodied by the actor.

- The second line will be an emotion-based line. This will test the actors ability to tap into a characters emotion.

  • My Name is Fauna Verma, I am originally from a small town in Idaho. I am currently finishing high school, where I have been asked to chaperone the new student around. I have a lot of goals for my adult life, hopefully I'll be able to obtain a PHD in psychology one day.

  • I've spent my whole life running from my past, and trying to redeem myself. Every time I get close, there's something in the back of my mind telling me to breakaway from this pseudo-life I've built or myself.

*Main cast*

Zeke Batson - Born into a wealthy political family, Zeke’s life was shattered at age ten when his family was murdered in their home. As the sole survivor - and with suspicion lingering but never proven - he was institutionalized in a hospital for much of his life. Now back in society as a young adult, Zeke struggles with shyness, social awkwardness, and a lack of real-world experience. His quiet demeanor and fragile presence hint at both deep vulnerability and the shadows of his past.

Voice Direction Zeke’s voice should carry hesitation and unease, often soft-spoken and uncertain. He may pause frequently, searching for words, and his delivery should reflect a mix of innocence, trauma, and guardedness. At times, flashes of suppressed anger or fear may break through his otherwise timid exterior.

(Think Asa Germann, Sam Gen V)

  • Hi. My name is Ezekiel Batson. Some people call me Zeke. I'm an orphan, and I'm currently trying to learn how to make friends. I haven't been in a real school for the last six years, so high school is a really hard place to start. Turns out not everyone likes to color.

  • I don't really get it. I don't know why I was the one left behind. I have no friends or family, and In a year I'm going to be tossed out by the system on the streets. You'll be fine though. You'll get your fancy degree, and then all I'll be to you was a passing grade.

Jewel Lancaster - A washed-up recovering addict with a shadowy and uncertain past. Like Zeke, her family was also allegedly murdered, but the truth remains murky. Jewel once pursued a career in law enforcement but failed out of the academy, leaving her bitter and restless. A loose cannon at heart, she is unpredictable and messy, yet fueled by spite and an unrelenting need to prove herself.

Voice Direction: Jewel’s voice should balance grit and vulnerability. She may sound jaded, sarcastic, or sharp-tongued, often masking pain with bravado. Her delivery can be volatile - swinging between controlled, biting remarks and heated, emotional outbursts. Beneath it all, there should be an undertone of desperation and defiance. (Think Juliette Lewis as Nat, Yellow Jackets)

  • Hey, how's it going. I'm Jewel. like a singular jewel though. I used to be interested in law enforcement but that blew the fuck up in my face.

  • Look, I don't know what weird thing you kids have going on here but I don't really give a flying fuck! I get up everyday and work my shitty job, come home, and drink until I pass out and wake up and do it again. That's my life, that's my big fat life-long dream.

Naomi Fletcher - An aspiring investigative journalist with dreams of uncovering big stories. As a dedicated member of the school newspaper, she has a knack for noticing details others overlook. Naomi is intuitive, a little zany in her approach, and deeply fascinated by Zeke’s story - perhaps more than she should be. African American, she brings warmth, intelligence, and an infectious energy that makes her both fun to be around and a formidable match for Maya’s composed, by-the-book style.

Voice Direction: Naomi’s voice should feel lively, curious, and intelligent, with a playful undertone. She balances warmth and humor with sharp intuition, switching easily between lighthearted banter and serious probing when her journalistic instincts kick in.

  • Hello Everyone! My name is Naomi Fletcher, I am the president of the school news paper. My friends and I enjoy some true crime here and there, but one of my biggest obsessions is the case of Zeke Batson. There's so many unanswered questions.

Detective Swanson - The original detective who interviewed Zeke as a child on the night of his family’s murder. Now older and pulled out of retirement, he returns to investigate the strange and unsettling events surrounding Zeke’s reappearance in society. Swanson is the definition of an old-timey detective: rugged, weary, and carrying the weight of decades on the force. His sharp instincts remain intact, though his methods may feel outdated. Beneath his hardened exterior, there’s a sliver of compassion he rarely shows.

Voice Direction: Rugged, world-weary, with a touch of dry humor. His delivery should feel seasoned, deliberate, and slightly gravelly - the voice of a man who’s seen too much but still pushes forward. Think steady, no-nonsense, with the occasional biting one-liner.

  • Hello, how's everyone doing tonight? I'm Detective Swanson. I've been at this thing for a while, ya'know. I like to think I chase the bad guys out of town, and lock em up! There's some strange stuff going on these day's and I don't know how I'm supposed to handle it but I'm up for the challenge.

Quick-witted and sharp-tongued, she maintains an almost obsessive attention to detail, which makes her both intimidating and suspicious. Though she projects warmth and authority to students and staff, there’s always the sense she’s hiding something beneath her polished surface.

Voice Direction: Crisp, articulate, and deliberate. Mrs. Peala should sound controlled and over-prepared, with an edge of sharp wit that can come across as cutting. Her tone can shift quickly. pleasant and helpful in one moment, cold and biting in the next.

  • Let's see, what to say about myself. I have been a school guidance counselor for the past 15 years. It's my job to see to it that all of our students graduate and move forward into their lives as adults!

  • Children think they are smarter than adults. This is what we are seeing right now. The 3 of them think they are way ahead of us, in reality we already know where they are going. At least I do.

Voice Direction: Warm, maternal, and approachable. Her tone should feel caring and down-to-earth, with an ease that contrasts the tension and darkness elsewhere in the story. She’s the comforting voice of reason, never overbearing, always sincere.

  • Hello, I'm Vanessa. I'm a mother of two, soon to be three. I have personally taken on the responsibility of raising my half-sisters child. I want him to know a warming home before he has to go back out to the cruel world that did this to him.
