The Lion King: The Circle of Life Dub
Project Overview
What is this?
This is going to be a fandub for the Disney animated movie, The Lion King.
For those of you unfamiliar with the plot, The Lion King follows the adventures of the young lion Simba, the heir of his father, Mufasa. Simba's wicked uncle, Scar, plots to usurp Mufasa's throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon and Pumbaa.
Requirements:
1. Please make sure your microphone is capable of recording your voice without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping.
2. You must have a Discord account, as the project will be going into production over there.
3. Your voice files must be sent in a .wav format, though if it ends up too big, .mp3 files will do as an alternative.
4. You need to have a very clear idea of the character you're auditioning for. Watch the movie again or find clips on YouTube if you need a refresher. It's preferred your performance is closer to the animated version than the live-action version.
5. Open Ethnicity, POC Actors are HEAVILY encouraged to audition.

Simba is the son of Mufasa and Sarabi, who was destined to rule the Pride Lands, as king. When his father was murdered by his treacherous uncle, Scar, Simba was blamed for the murder and exiled from the Pride Lands. He finds refuge in a jungle oasis with Timon and Pumbaa, but the Pride Lands fall to disarray during his absence. With the kingdom in peril, Simba is forced to confront his troubled past and take his place in the "Circle of Life".

She's wrong. I can't go back. What would it prove, anyway? It won't change anything. You can't change the past. {He looks up at the stars.} You said you'd always be there for me! But you're not. And it's because of me. It's my fault. It's my fault.
[Gravely, with deep anger] Run. Run away, Scar. And never return.
[Singing Can You Feel the Love Tonight] So many things to tell her But how to make her see The truth about my past? Impossible! She'd turn away from me.
As a cub, Simba was quite adventurous, inquisitive, and impressionable. He highly admired his father, Mufasa, and wished to someday become a ruler as mighty as he, spending much of his time either learning the ways of a king or simply envisioning what life would be like with such power and self-esteem. This inflated his ego, making him brash and cocky, and additionally led to troublesome situations, as his viewpoint on Mufasa led him to believe being a king meant being fearless and looking for unnecessary danger, just to prove how mighty one could be.

[Cocky] Danger? Hah! I walk on the wild side. I laugh in the face of danger. Ha ha ha ha!
[Singing Just Can't Wait To Be King] I'm gonna be the mane event Like no king was before I'm brushing up on looking down I'm working on my ROAR (Zazu: Thus far, a rather uninspiring thing) Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Nala is the lifelong best friend of Simba, prince of the Pride Lands. When the kingdom is taken over by Scar and his hyena henchmen, Nala rebels against their reign by assisting Simba in reclaiming the throne.

[Singing Can You Feel The Love Tonight] He's holding back, he's hiding But what? I can't decide Why won't he be the king I know he is? The king I see inside?
As a cub, Nala is sassy, defensive of her own accomplishments, and gives her best friend cheek when prompted. Though Simba sometimes tries to claim her ideas as his own, Nala will not stand for being overlooked and is clever and strong enough to do something about it. Despite this, Nala is an encouraging friend, and kind to Simba even when he makes an error, no matter what he says or does.
NOTE: So because there aren't really a lot of examples of Young Nala singing aside from a few words in I Just Can't Wait To Be King, kindly include a link to any example you might have of you singing.

[Smug] Pinned. Ya. Again.
[Looking at an elephant skull] I wonder if its brains are still in there.
[Whispering to Simba] I thought you were very brave.
Despite his majestic exterior, Mufasa is kind-hearted and playful, showing respect for all the creatures, even those who are perceived as lower than himself. He is not strictly business, often playing games with his majordomo Zazu, and is unafraid of showing affection. As a king and a father, Mufasa is instructive and wise, borne down by years of experience and instruction. His rule over the Pride Lands resulted in a period of prosperity, reflecting his reasonable and responsible approach to kingship. His wisdom touches through on his understanding of responsibility and his willingness to set aside personal gain to better the Pride Lands. If his family is endangered, Mufasa exposes his protective side, ready to throw himself into danger to keep those he loves safe. Ultimately, he is willing to sacrifice his life for his family, proving his love for them to be stronger than his concern for himself. He is happy to impart knowledge to his grandson Kion whenever he is feeling confused or discouraged and is willing to give him a step in the right direction.

Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom. A king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king.
[Stern] Simba, I'm very disappointed in you. You could have been killed. You deliberately disobeyed me. And what's worse, you put Nala in danger!
Simba... Let me tell you something that my father told me... Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you ... And so will I.
Scar is known to be very resentful of Mufasa and Simba, the latter for essentially ruining any chance of him legitimately becoming king. Scar is egotistical and prides himself on his intelligence, and is somewhat of a narcissist. Scar is heavily sarcastic, frequently replying to attempts at conversation with sarcasm and subtle insults. After taking over Pride Rock, Scar's overall demeanor takes a turn for the worse, becoming somewhat deluded, if not in self-denial, in believing that he is still a logical ruler despite clear evidence to the contrary, apparently being unprepared to confess even to himself that Mufasa was a better king or finding fault in his own leadership. Scar is highly intelligent as he himself liked to boast, easily able to manipulate situations and conversations to his advantage. Scar is an extremely charismatic individual, able to inspire the hyenas to follow his cause.

Rafiki is extremely sagacious and wise. However, his way of exploiting his intelligence is highly irregular; he prefers to teach his pupils (such as Simba) by bombarding them with cryptic metaphors, and typically in a way that purposely annoys them. He takes great joy in this, and though unconventional, the methods of his teaching have proven to be effective time and time again. It should be noted that part of the reason Rafiki's teachings are quite eccentric is the fact that Rafiki, himself, is fairly eccentric. He is excitable, and energetic in spite of his age, and tends to fall into fits of hysterical laughter when something amuses him. He also tends to speak in the third person when speaking of himself. Despite this, much as his reputation would conceive, Rafiki does have a tamer side. He takes his role as a sage of the Pride Lands somberly and will act diligently to ensure the balance of the "Circle of Life" remains intact.

It means you are a baboon - and I'm not. (laughs)
It doesn't matter; it's in the past! (laughs) Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it.
Timon can be self-centered and thoughtless at times. But in the end, he has a good heart and is loyal to his friends and family. His status at the bottom of the food chain means he relies on stronger animals to protect him once he's on his own, and as such, he usually looks out for himself, but nonetheless, never abandons his friends and family in times of trouble and is willing to risk himself for them. He is also self-absorbed and not as clever as he'd like to think he is, such as sometimes claiming Pumbaa's good ideas as his own. Timon is not incapable of thinking up his own plans, though. He is also a bit of a coward but with some amount of ability to be a bit of a daredevil. Timon is also iconic for being best friends with Pumbaa, the warthog. The two are nearly inseparable and are shown together constantly. Being extremely close, they share interests such as sleeping, fun-filled activities, and most of all, eating bugs, which they mostly refer to as grubs. The duo is also known to argue time and time again, mostly because of Timon's selfishness and Pumbaa's ultimate nobility causing their personalities to clash. Even so, they never separate for long, and soon enough, their bond is tightened once again. Also, while Pumbaa is generally the true brains of the outfit, he is still very childish, with Timon being rather protective of the warthog when the latter is in some kind of unfortunate event due to his naivety. This is an example of Timon's ultimate loyalty towards his friends and family. Despite his self-absorbed nature, he will eventually come around to do what's right, despite the sacrifices he has to make.

Pumbaa, are you nuts? We're talking about a lion. Lions eat guys like us.
How do you do.. Whoa! Whoa. Time out.. Lemme get this straight. You know her. She knows you. But she wants to eat him. And everybody's... okay with this? DID I MISS SOMETHING?!?
[Singing Hakuna Mattata] It means no worries For the rest of your days It's our problem-free Philosophy Hakuna Matata!
Pumbaa is a loving, open-hearted character who sometimes shows childlike naivety and innocence that is sometimes confused for stupidity. Though Timon would say otherwise, Pumbaa is the actual brains of the outfit, having both common sense and impressive knowledge of things from nature to science, which he often tries to teach the more dim-witted Timon, but to no faithful avail. Even so, Pumbaa's childish nature sets the two apart. Whilst Timon can be selfish and greedy, he is still, overall, more mature than Pumbaa, thus explaining why he is the de facto leader of the duo, along with the fact that Pumbaa can be very absent-minded at times. Not only that, Pumbaa is not without his stereotypical dim-witted moments. Despite his history of being abandoned and possibly even mistreated due to his foul smell, Pumbaa has a strong sense of loyalty and devotion towards his friends, mainly seen when Timon's selfishness gets him into trouble despite Pumbaa's warnings, thus resulting in the warthog having to save the day, still willing to call Timon his closest companion.

Are you talking to me? Are you talking to me?! ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?!? They CALL me... MIIISTER PIG! AAAAAHHH...
[Singing Hakuna Mattata] I'm a sensitive soul, though I seem thick-skinned And it hurt that my friends never stood downwind
As the king's majordomo, Zazu is knowledgeable, diplomatic, and stern. He takes his position as a royal advisor very seriously and carries himself in a no-nonsense—and oftentimes, pompous—manner. Unfortunately, the demanding, and sometimes dangerous nature of his job has left Zazu with a considerable amount of anxiety and emotional instability; he is prone to falling into a panic when things go wrong, and he can be rather irritable and snappish. Because of his fragile temper and high opinion of himself, Zazu is not taken very seriously by the other characters, specifically Simba and Nala, who would often tease the majordomo as children. Similarly, Scar sees Zazu as nothing more than a pest and repeatedly seeks to torment the hornbill when given the chance. Even Mufasa has had his share of fun in teasing Zazu. Nevertheless, Zazu is undoubtedly loyal to the king and has proven his usefulness on numerous occasions. As the king's "eyes and ears", Zazu knows all and tells all, especially when trouble arises. Zazu is also shown to have a sense of humor. He also has a quirky habit of sliding blatant puns into his morning reports.

[To Scar] I'm here to announce that King Mufasa is on his way. ...So you'd better have a good excuse for missing the ceremony this morning.
[To Simba, Annoyed] Not yet I don't. And with an attitude like that, I'm afraid you're shaping up to be a pretty pathetic king indeed.
[Forced to sing for Scar] I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts diddely-dee-dee There they are a-standing in a row... Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head... [Stops singing] Oh... I would never have had to do this for Mufasa.
Shenzi is the leader and sole female of the trio. Despite the common belief in the Pride Lands that hyenas are brainless, Shenzi's sense of humor hides a merciless sense of cunning. She is not merely the leader of the trio, but the Matriarch of a Pack of over 200 hyenas, and her powerful leadership and diplomatic skills result in incredible gains for her pack, regardless of the cataclysmic results to the Pride Lands. Despite her dislike of Mufasa, Shenzi clearly has a measure of respect and fear for him. Shenzi can be just as heartless as Scar, but unlike him, her first duty is to strengthen her clan rather than the pursuit of personal power.

[To Zazu] Whoa, whoa, wait wait wait... I know you. You're Mufasa's little stooge.
[Joking with Banzai] Oh wait, wait, wait. I got one, I got one. Make mine a "cub" sandwich. Whatcha think?
There ain't no way I'm going in there. What, you want me to come out there looking like you? Cactus Butt?
Banzai is the second hyena of the trio. He is quick-tempered, hostile, gluttonous, and reckless, thinking with his teeth first. However, he constantly submits to Shenzi, who is both smarter and more self-controlled than him. He is the greediest of the three, frequently making references to hunger, and asking for food. He also speaks and acts without thinking. Otherwise, Banzai appears to be Shenzi's intellectual equal.

Yeaaaah! We could have whatever's... "lion" around! Get it? Lion around! (laughs)
[To Scar] Yeah. Hey, hey. Did ya bring us anything to eat, Scar, old buddy, old pal? Huh? Did-ya-did-ya-did-ya?
[To Scar] I said Muf... (Shenzi hits Banzai) I said, uh... "Qué pasa?"
Ed laughs rather than speaks, and also seems to have difficulty holding back his laughter. Ed comes off as the 'idiot' of the trio, but Shenzi and Banzai never actually treat him as stupid. They treat him as an equal, despite the fact that he responds only by laughing, and his laughter to meaningful language.

Sarabi is a supportive mother and queen. Throughout Mufasa's reign, she displays herself as being a fierce encouragement to her family, viewing Simba's presentation with pride and later motivating him to learn royal duties from his father. Unlike Mufasa, who is gentle but firm in his guidance, Sarabi is softer, and shown to be especially affectionate when dealing with her son, with whom she is especially patient. Not only is Sarabi gentle and soft-spoken, but she is also a doting mother who is not afraid to tease. Through her son's many childish complaints, she keeps a smile on her face, proving herself willing to embarrass him if she believes that she is serving his best interests. Despite her punny nature, Sarabi is wise enough to keep her family safe, willing to put barriers on Simba in order to keep him from harming himself and his friends. Her easygoing approach to parenting is not of an overly lenient nature but strict enough to keep Simba on the right track, rendering her just as protective of her son as Mufasa.
