The Henchman's Journal
Project Overview
Introduction:
The Henchman’s Journal is an action style podcast that follows Jamie, as he is suddenly kidnapped legally adopted by a notorious villain, The Desolator, also known as Oliver Dane, In a dystopian society caused by a surge of superpowers leading to the rise of heroes and villains, Jamie finds himself thrust into the middle of a complex conflict between villains, sending him further into a web of mysteries and masks. Everyone has a past to run from, information to hide, and masks to wear.
Some Quick Information:
Auditions will run from December 16th 2023 to January 6th 2023. This is an unpaid project as I do not have the funds to pay anyone. It is simply a passion project. If The Henchman’s Journal happens to gain enough attraction that it starts to make some money, you will be compensated. However, that cannot be promised right off the bat.
Anyone can audition regardless of gender, or skill. If you think you can audition then audition! Character genders can be adjusted to make you comfortable as an actor, though their names are set in stone.
As this project is led by a minor, I do consider voice actors of all ages, including minors, depending on skill, talent, and how well they fit the character.
You must have a microphone of some kind as well as a discord. Discord is where all communication will take place. If you don’t have a microphone right now but one is on the way/you plan on getting one, let me know in your audition tape what microphone you’re getting and I will still consider your audition.
I am in eastern standard time (EST). You do not have to be in this timezone to audition, however be aware that recording may fall on early mornings or late nights if there are time zone differences.
Depending on how well the first season goes, there may be a second season. Please keep this in mind. You are committing to one season for sure, but possibly more.

Chosen actors will be contacted within one to two weeks after auditions close.

Oliver is about mid thirties. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. They are the “technically legal adoptive” guardian of Jamie after a chance meeting in an alleyway, however their motives for the adoption is a mystery. Oliver is also known as the Desolator, one of the most well-known and strongest villains. Although out of the mask, Oliver is more awkward, always worrying about “the right thing to say”.

(Trying to be understanding and calm) I understand that this is a tough time for you. I’ll take my leave. Sort through your thoughts for as long as you like and come downstairs when you’re ready.
(trying to be a good and responsible adult) Well a child, such as yourself, should go to school and associate with peers your age. And well, I just think it would be a great way to use all the free time you have right now. Education is important.
(Panicking, out of breath, worried and is seeking emotional refuge and help by calling Alex) I’m sorry! I didn’t know who to call, I just, I messed up, Alex, I messed it all up again! I didn’t-I didn’t mean to!
Alex is about mid thirties. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. Alex is one of Oliver’s scarce friends, frequently meeting with them over coffee whenever they have time, which is rare as their demanding job takes most of their energy and time. Alex is more care-free than Oliver yet has strict lines on their moral code, they care for people to a self-sacrificing extent. Oliver tends to ask Alex for advice with Jamie as Alex has two of their own adopted children, Charlie and Frankie. They have a personality that people would call charismatic.

(Trying to calm OLIVER down from panicking) Hey, calm down, he’s fine. Doctors are also saying that he’s just exhausted, he’ll wake up, he’ll just need to take some medication and he’ll be fine.
(Trying to be a pillar of support) I understand, sometimes it just boils over, that is human nature. But when he wakes up you need to apologize, ok. How about this, get a therapist, I have one too. They can be helpful, ok?
(Very angry at Charlie for messing up) Tried to? No, no you should’ve stopped her. She’s young, she doesn’t know anything about what could be out there but you do, you should’ve stopped her.
Charlie is seventeen. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. Charlie Collins is older of the siblings that Alex adopted, they are academically hard-working, being usually top of the class. They can study long hours making them a little tempered, they also dislike slackers. Charlie has also studied and prepared for, as they call it, “skills that would be useful to a hero”. They are endlessly annoyed by their sibling, Frankie, and yet would follow them anywhere to protect them.

(Pissed off that Frankie keeps endangering themselves) Oh yeah, totally, going into the red zone totally shows me that you can take care of yourself. It is MY job so that you don’t get yourself hurt, something that you seem very KEEN on doing.
(Sounding apathetic) Frankie, I’m going to be honest, I really, REALLY, don’t care. Sometimes, Frankie, we just let things exist, we don’t have to know EVERYTHING. Ok?
(Angry about Frankie) Why would I tell you? What point would there be? You keep putting yourself in danger and I knew that if I told you this you would do something stupid again.
Frankie is 16. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. Frankie seeks mystery, tending to usually go outside on adventures to find something they deem fun. They often are the one pulling Charlie outside for the adventures, something that annoys Charlie to no end. Frankie is also rather unlucky, usually accidentally walking face-first into something dangerous. Something that Charlie does not find amusing. Frankie also doesn’t trust easily, always having suspicions and conspiracy theories about the people near them.

(Joking) Cause I’m your sibling. And you were only doing some boring homework. This is much more interesting. Anyways listeners, today me and Charlie will be roaming around trying to find SPOOOKY things afoot.
(Paranoid about people hiding stuff from them.) He’s hiding something, Charlie. I know it, I know that something happened but they won’t tell me. Charlie doesn’t hide things from me, he’s never done that.
(terrified) I can’t- I can’t move. I don't know why. I can’t move, I can’t oh my god. He stabbed...the knife, it...oh god, oh my god.
Eli is 16. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. They are constantly tired, tending to have large eye-bags under their eyes and often taking long naps in class. Although when they aren’t sleeping they are extra impulsive in their action, tending to constantly insult or annoy people for fun. They are hyperactive in most situations, and usually don't stay still, instead choosing to cause mishaps and chaos. Note: This character will curse quite a bit.

(Incredulity and mocking) Uhh, look at me, I am one of the suspicious dudes, stupid. I have a mask and everything, you just saw me fight that prick with a knife! God you really must just be stupid.
(Sarcastically mocking) Oh yea, you’re right. You’re a good samaritan if you just ignore all the crime you’ve done. Good idea, gosh oh gosh, why didn’t I think of that.
The Static is of an unknown age. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. The static is a mysterious entity, when speaking they tend to be followed by crowds boo-ing, crying, or laughing. They have a disorienting effect on characters; they have trouble controlling their emotions, quickly swinging from chill and laid-back, to angry and rageful, to sad and gloomy.

(Mad but trying to stay calm) It hurts doesn’t it? Feeling everything, all at the same time. Everything in your head is firing all the feelings, like peak overstimulation keeping you locked in place. You know, I’m trying to keep it ALL together, none of you seem to respect that. Is it that hard to be a little nice? I guess for you teenagers it would be. All filled with anger and confusion, and boy, do I know that feeling.
(Being sarcastic and trying to goad Charlie into doing something) OH, oh my. The tough boy with a heart of gold, not wanting to sacrifice for the greater good. Oh, oh my, think of the people Charlie, think of the people.
While Cerberus’s age is unknown he is a relatively young character. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. A loyal soldier for the King, often using their connection to the King to sway people. They will do anything for the King. They have a carefree attitude, yet they get serious when something isn’t going the way the King wanted.

(Being a spite-y son of a gun, trying to convince TRENCH to have an alliance) An ALLIANCE. You are to have an ALLIANCE. And yes I do know where the doctor is but unfortunately it seems I can’t tell you here. There are unwanted listeners here.
There was a, troublemaker, it caught me by surprise- (Slowly becoming more panicked) -I’m sorry, I-I should’ve been more careful, I should not have allowed this to happen and it won’t, I promise you.
(Cerberus is trying to keep his cool and is attempting to assert dominance.) I am Cerberus and I would advise you to take your hand off me. I think it would do some good for you.
Trench’s age is unknown. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. He is a large villain, wearing a gas mask at most times. They are sadistic and violent, not tending to have an ounce of respect. They are impulsive, picking fights and brutalizing people are second nature to them. Note: This character will curse quite a bit.

(Sigh)What are you here for, (Mocking) your master give you a new job to complete? Look at you, you’re doin’ so well, completing his bidding like a dog.
(Laughing sadistically) Wait a minute, weren’t you that kid outside my warehouse? Wow, is Cerberus that soft, I thought he would’ve killed you. I suppose that this is fate then, you showing yourself right back in front of me.
The Doctor’s age is unknown. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. The Doctor is known for being much more well put-together. They have a miraculous robotic body, created by editing parts of himself to “the closest thing to perfection”. They gain favors by helping villains treat their injuries. Unlike Trench they are fight-averse, tending to leave fights to their robots, but when fighting they are efficient at using robotic upgrades to rip their enemies apart.

(Calm) Yes I’m aware, I can see through all the camera’s from here. I’m not too worried about it, it’ll be gone within time.
That’s the peculiar thing, I was looking through the database and I found only one result that had this type of ability.
The Middleman is mid twenties. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. The Middleman is a connector of villains, getting money by helping villains connect to the right people. With this they gained the good will of the doctor and is well-liked by multiple villains. They are a huge-smoker, often violently coughing as they talk, though they’re adamant that smoking won’t be the thing that would kill them.

(Coughing a lot) Look, newbie, you must be new here underground, no one’s going to like you with a uniform like that, what were you thinking having a uniform that resembles one of ‘em sentinels. Let me explain this to you, newbie, my job is built on my clients trust, and I can’t just go around spending my clients trust everywhere can I? And why would I know where that geezer is anyways?
(Being threatening) If this is some, I don’t know, plot or something to kill the doctor I will make sure that everyone will know you, everyone will come for you. Everyone will hunt you.
The King is of an unknown age. They do not have any specific style of voice needed. Anyone of any gender and race can audition. They are a forceful and commanding person, Their charisma tending to pull people to their cause. While their motives stay unknown their work is done through their soldier, Cerberus. The King tends to stay back, instead choosing to manipulate people to do what he wants, acting more like a businessman or a politician. They seem to have a connection to Oliver?

(Overpowering strength and mocking all characters, almost sarcastic like) Oh wow, lots of confused faces, this is great. Allow me to make this very clear.
(sounds like he’s having fun, still has a level-headed head while acting as an overpowering force, says it almost matter-of-factly) Here’s the thing, you have no idea, how RIDICULOUSLY small and, honestly, pathetic you are, compared to me. You’re just scared, little, morsels of nothing. You are a kazoo in my masterpiece.
