THE HALCYON FILES is set in the decades after a nuclear war devastated the world.

Humanity survives in orbital stations known as Arks, colossal cities suspended above the ruined Earth, engineered as a final act to save humanity until the surface could be reclaimed.

Each Ark is a world unto itself—towering neighborhoods, sprawling farms, vibrant entertainment districts, bustling transit stations, and markets that hum with life—all powered by cutting-edge solar and nuclear technology; a flawless imitation of the world that was lost. 

Crater is one of the last of these stations still holding steady. A shining bastion of civilization in the void.

But when the time finally comes to return, Earth is not empty—it’s infested.

And now, the Arks—though thriving—are threatened by the Blighted.

So humanity does what it does best: it adapts.

The Vanguard are created; elite hunters trained to protect what’s left of humanity, and to venture on the surface and face what they cannot. Axel’s brother becomes one of them—and after his first deployment, all records of him go dark.

Still, that doesn’t stop Axel from wanting to become a Vanguard, risking it all for a chance to prove that she can survive a world that wasn’t built for her.

    Hello everyone! Cryptid here. Thank you so much for the overwhelming number of submissions :DD I really wasn't expecting this many auditions; I'm incredibly grateful :))

    That being said, some of you might receive an interest check in the next week for some ensemble roles, as well as some special/unlisted roles that have not been included on the initial audition sheet! (This was done to prevent spoilers.)

    Those who will be/have been approached for these roles will be provided the details for these (including line count and base character description), so you can decide whether or not you'd still like to be considered for them before moving forward.

    As I'm still reviewing all of your submissions, the official release of results (for listed characters, ensemble, and the special/unlisted characters) will be on JUNE 1!

    Onboarding will begin from June 1-6.

  • Role: Axel’s friend and fellow cadet in Barracks C.

  • Notes: Sonata carries the weight of her aunt’s expectations and her parents’ last names (two of the most glorified Vanguard before their deaths), and seeks to find a life outside being a Vanguard. Despite this, her future as a 1st-rank Vanguard is already laid out for her. She is a force of nature on the field and in the classroom, lethal and focused, determined to keep her status as the top cadet in their batch.

  • Vocal Qualities:

    • Mid-range youthful tone, but decidedly mature—sounds like a 17-year-old with authority beyond her years.

    • Think Adora (She-Ra)/Amity Blight (Owl House) /Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson)

    • Clear, deliberate diction; can deliver lines crisply, especially tactical or commanding dialogue. 

    • Any accent welcome!

    • Can shift between cool, composed leadership and moments of dry humor.

  • Role: Fellow cadet in Sonata and Axel’s unit.

  • Notes: They’ve got a good head on their shoulders, but are definitely too focused on their upcoming medic exams. Unlike Sonata (whose priority is to become a 1st-Rank), Robin’s goal is to become a surgeon once they’ve graduated. He gives as good as they get–though their teasing is limited to sarcastic remarks and the occasional splutter when they’re not quick enough on the draw—and is seen as the “book smart” of the four.  

  • Vocal Qualities:

    • Dry, serious, can be teasing, but mostly sarcastic.

    • Ability to convey adrenaline, tension, and urgency convincingly.

    • Think Percy Weasley (Harry Potter)/Bat-Fam Damian Wayne/Keith Kogane (Voltron)

  • Notes: Definition of here for a good time, not a long time. Talented enough to run with the top-rank kids, but is mostly just there for a good time. Being a Vanguard was more of a side-quest for them; an opportunity to get away from home, and to get a better life once they’ve graduated—especially because graduating a Vanguard gives you an automatic pass to most professions. (And it also gives them an automatic pass to any bar they walk into, and that’s what matters the most.)

  • Vocal Qualities:

    • Cocky, teasing, but serious when their life is on the line. 

    • Ability to convey adrenaline, tension, and urgency convincingly.

    • Think Dick Grayson/Lance McClain (Voltron)/Sokka (Avatar)

  • Notes: One of the lieutenants at the academy. He expects the cadets to be at their best 24/7, and will call them out if they aren’t; no matter if it’s in public or private. Once he steps into a room, it instantly sobers up; everyone respects him, and you know he’s going to get things done. 

  • Vocal Qualities:

    • Rough, mid-to-deep voice, clipped tone.

    • Strict, no nonsense, and articulate to a fault.

    • Think Joel Miller/Wolverine (Logan)/Captain Erwin (Attack on Titan)

    • Any accent welcome!
