The Day the World Stopped Breathing: Visual Novel
Project Overview
The Day the World Stopped Breathing is a visual novel personal project that I've been wanting to do. I've made the characters for it but I'm not very good at art, and I needed voice actors for the characters. This is a passion project so I wont be paying, and also because I'm broke ðŸ˜.
PLOT------
For hundreds and thousands of years, humankind has evolved. Through the progression of humanity, some had believed in gods, while others didn’t. During early life, people would pray, and make sacrifices to their beloved gods, hoping it would bring prosperity to them and their people. Over the years as time evolved, these practices became less common and less extreme, and for years the gods slumbered. Years and years would pass in silence, until a god had awoken. The god that had awoken was not like any other. It thirsted for blood and sacrifice. As humanity progressed and practices of making sacrifices to the gods started to fade away, it became angry, and looked upon humanity as weak, and wanted their extinction. On the day of the event, the god had opened a rip in space, and sent out manifestations of human fears and emotion. He commanded the creatures to invade the planet with one simple goal: Kill all humans and destroy their home as punishment. The god went through the tear and overlooked the chaos and destruction, floating in the sky. An effect of going through the tear, was making the god have a physical form in the human realm. The god’s appearance consisted of having four eyes, with its body being covered in an unknown language of glyphs. If the god is defeated, then all of the creatures will vanish, and the tear will be closed. Both Alexis and Zackary team up and have the goal of taking down this god.

[MAIN ROLE] Alexis is a charming individual. Even when things are tough she tries to see the best in situations. She is an up tempo and cheerful individual. She is also a jokester and likes to make stupid comments and jokes frequently.
[BACKSTORY]
Alexis Woods was born and raised in San Francisco, California. At a young age, Alexis was put into the foster care system due to her parent’s neglect. She was frequently placed between homes as her life went on but never found a permanent home, and by the time she had graduated high school she was eighteen and was no longer eligible for the system. Over a couple of years she had saved money to rent a small home for herself. One day while sitting in her backyard Alexis noticed something. She looked in the sky and saw a little red crack in it. Curiously she stood up to look at it more closely. Suddenly the sky cracked open and erupted with blood red light. Horrifying unexplainable creatures crawled from the crack in all shapes and sizes. Some were unexplainable in shape while others resembled human anatomy. The most noticeable was a giant floating being with four eyes and glyphs over its body. It never moved from its spot which was right below the tear in the sky. Alexis rushed to her television and turned on the news. It wasn't just San Francisco, it was happening worldwide. Panic erupted across the globe as entire countries died quickly. After not too long almost everybody was dead. Alexis looked out upon her city she once called home. Buildings were on fire, and everything had gone awry. She looked upon her world once filled with people, now coated in a blood red glow. Now she tries to live her life to the fullest despite the cataclysmic event.
Her main goal is to try and find a way to reverse the events.

[unnerved] What the hell... [panicked, out of breath from running] No no no no no, this cant be real right? This cant be happening... right? [hopeless, unnerved] I guess this is the start of the apocalypse huh?
[worried, trying to be hopeful] Don't worry, you'll be fine. , it's okay. [uneasy] ooh, that's bad. Really bad. [yelling from afar] Stay there! I'll try to find some medical supplies!
[Trying not to laugh] You're seriously struggling to open a box. [laughs] Oh this is priceless! [Regaining breath from laughing] Here let me open it since you somehow cant.
[MAIN ROLE] Zackary is a more laid back individual. He tends to think through his actions thoroughly before taking action. He tends to look on the grim side of things and is fighting to survive. Zackary has become a half human, half monster. Due to this, there are moments where the creature can take control of his brain function, causing him to act in strange ways or become violent in nature without control.
[BACKSTORY]
Zackary Scott was born and raised in San Francisco. Throughout his childhood he was very invested with sports. Zackary would end up joining a little league baseball team, and over the years would end up becoming a professional baseball player. He lived his life very thoughtfully. On the day of the event, Zackary was playing in a world series game. He had been called up to bat, and stood ready at home plate. He waited, the pitcher getting ready to throw. Suddenly, a loud boom exploded across the sky. A giant crack in the sky tore open and blood red light shined down over everything and unexplainable creatures of all forms crawled from it. The most noticeable of them all was a giant being with 4 eyes and glyphs covering it. Chaos erupted as people were jumping down from the stands onto the field and running out of the stadium. All of the players from both teams sprinted towards an exit that led to the team’s clubhouse. Zackary noticed but it was too late. One of the team members slammed the door shut and barricaded and locked it. Panicked, Zackary ran back out to the field, grabbed his bat, and ran to find another exit. He suddenly heard an eerie croaking sound. He turned around quickly and saw a monster with a contorted humanoid figure, pale gray skin, abnormally long arms, no eyes, crooked teeth and a mouth with slits down the sides, blood dripping from them. Zackary gripped the bat in his hands and swung at the monster, striking it on the side of the head. The monster slightly stumbled back, letting out another croak before pouncing on Zackary. The monster bit down on Zackary and clawed at him. Afterwards the monster got off of him and crookedly walked away, as it spotted another victim. Zackary lied on the floor of the field, bleeding. His vision went blurry before fading to black. Eventually Zachary started to wake up. He looked around and saw nothing. Everything was destroyed and deserted. As he staggered upwards from the ground, still badly injured, he grabbed his bat and made his way to a separate exit. On his way, he found some spare t-shirts and turned them into makeshift bandages. He walked down the quiet halls of the stadium and looked at his reflection in a window. The left side of his face had rotted and a slit had gone down from his cheek to his mouth, showing jagged teeth through the blood and flesh. As he exited the stadium he looked upon the city, broken and in shambles, monsters roaming everywhere. He looked around, but there was no one in sight. He had come to the conclusion that nobody was left, and nobody was going to save him. He looked upon the city covered in the blood red glowing light in horror. He gripped his baseball bat and prepared for the worst as he looked up one last time and saw the floating being looming over the city, knowing that there was no way back to his life before. His main goal is to survive and find a way to reverse the events.

[Wincing, heavy breathing] This is bad... Gotta stop the bleeding. [calm, content] Slow down. I can make it through this.
[Casual talking] It's not just here in San Francisco, it happened everywhere. Now there's not many people left except for all of these... creatures for lack of a better term. Kind of depressing isn't it?
[Yelling at creature] Hey! If you want me so bad come and get me! Ill bash all of your skulls in!
[MAIN ROLE]
Caine Graves is a troubled and dangerous individual. Years of isolation and neglect has turned him into who he is now. His obsession with pyros and explosives are a dangerous obsession. Caine holds memories of his childhood of bullying, isolation, and neglect, but buries them down under anger and hatred. His goal is to just survive, even if it means harming anyone who stands in his way. He is the main threat to Alexis and Zackary in the beginning. (besides the god)
[BACKSTORY]
Throughout Caine Graves’ childhood he was very isolated. In school he would be bullied relentlessly. As he grew up he didn’t have any friends, and never did anything with other people. His parents were neglectful towards him and ignored him frequently. In his teenage years he started getting involved in petty crimes, like stealing from convenience stores and lighting leaf piles on fire in public. Throughout his petty crimes he gained an obsession with fire and explosions. When he was 16 and was doing these petty crimes, one would change his life forever. He had lit a pile of leaves on fire, until it quickly spread across the dry grass and trees. He stood in awe at the glowing trees. Authorities were called by a witness and Caine was arrested. He was sentenced to six years in juvie. He stayed in juvie for 2 years before being transferred to a prison when he turned 18. In the present day he is now 19, and escaped the prison due to the event.

[Angrily yelling] I'll burn this whole place down with you, me, and that freak in it!
[stumped] How do I get past all these cars? [angry] Dammit! What do I do now?! [Groans in frustration]
[sinisterly excited] Grenades! hahaha, yes! Now nothing can stand in my way. [muttering] not anymore.
This role will make all of the art for the game. The style would be a mix of a type of messy/gritty art, and an anime style. The art would consist of character art, background art, and certain scenes needing different angles of the characters.
