When Jacob isn't rehearsing for his newest project, you can find him going on adventures with his wife Katie, rolling dice for a game of Dungeons and Dragons, or building a new Lego set. Adventures and imagination are in his blood, and he can't wait to make new experiences as he continues to adventure through life!
Theatre History 2: Realism, Post-Realistic, Contemporary Theatre
Course will cover the period from 18th Century through American and European Contemporary. Course modules are 18th Century England, France, and Italy; early 19th century Germany; 19th century Romanticism; Sturm and Drang; Melodrama; and late 19th century theatre–Realism vs. Spectacle. The course will also cover early 20th century theatre–reactions against Realism, mid-20th century theatre–the rise of American drama and musical theatre and late 20th century theatre: the rise of Hispanic, Asian, African-American and women’s theatre.
A methods course designed for the beginning directing student. Students will learn the terminology and fundamentals of stage direction.
Students will learn to identify and analyze key elements of dramatic structure from the points of view of directors, actors, and designers, using plays from a variety of periods.
An intensive studio approach to introduce the student to the basic principles of acting and its artistry through vocal and physical awareness, character development, and analysis.
An intensive studio approach to fundamental relaxation and breathing techniques for the speaking voice. Students will learn skills in scoring the text, various techniques for good speech, and the International Phonetic Alphabet by applying these techniques to actual texts for performance and evaluation.
Introduction to the analytical process required to understand and create theatrical designs. Students will grasp an understanding and application of the elements and principles of design utilized, an exploration of the design process and responsibilities of each theatrical design discipline-scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound.
Introduction to the technical process required to research and develop theatre designs. The student will grasp the foundation and process of design through the completion of class projects in each of the major fields of theatrical design.
Intensive studio approach to further develop the principles of acting and its artistry through historic aesthetic theory. Examination of Modernism and extended Realism. Advance scene study, character analysis, and development.
A seminar class connecting early BFA performance students with tools for early success while still in college. Instruction includes workshops, guest artists, and discussion of the overall industry.
Effective message design and content marketing through live and digitally pre-produced production. Hands-on introduction to programming, digital editing, and online podcasts, as well as on-air experience.
Students will learn text analysis, scansion, and performance techniques for the works of Shakespeare: viewing Shakespeare plays, learning to appreciate and use the language to create character and action.
A process-based approach to understand the craft, tools, and techniques that inform successful creative writing. Students will read traditional and contemporary models of successful writing, compose works of their own, and participate in peer workshops that allow comment and feedback.
