The City (3 Part Audiodrama Series)
Project Overview
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The City is a three part sci-fi/psychological thriller audio drama series originally written by Marcus Wilson. It has once been produced as an audiobook, but now production is seeking to produce a full-cast audio drama. The script is fully written and ready for production.
Synopsis: A new organization called Telecity -- who is seeking to expand to the entire world -- offers cosmic energy helmets that allows people to physically manifest objects and teleport at will. The story follows Ta as she navigates one of the most devastating points in her life when she receives a suspicious invitation to join Telecity.
Content Warnings: profanity, murder, guns, brief mention of sex (nothing explicit)
Unfortunately we cannot provide monetary compensation at this time, but IMDB credit will be given! You'll gain valuable experience and will be able to connect with others who have the same passion for voice acting like you.
WHAT WE NEEDTons of voice actors! We have nearly 40 voice acting roles open to fit your voice type. A lot of the characters only have very minimal lines.
We also need a few sound designers to help edit the audio drama together.
HOW TO AUDITION
Be 13+ to audition!
Read each line at least twice! (AABBCC format)
Please include your discord username in your audition.
Feel free to audition for multiple roles (I'd highly encourage to do so!) since most roles have very minimal lines (less than 5-10).
Please be open to the idea of having multiple roles (most likely your main role + a role or two with very minimal lines)
Please be committed to completing your role in this project (especially if you have a role that is needed for all three parts).
Have fun!
Recording will be done remotely and asynchronously on your own time. Deadlines will be discussed beforehand with the cast.
Thank you for the interest and we look forward to hearing your auditions!
Note: There will be no AI art in the final product, I am only using it as a temporary placeholder and as a potential visualizer!
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
We are urgently in need of multiple sound designers to help edit the audio drama together. To audition, please just link an example of some audio you edited!

Ta is kind, innocent, hopeful, and open to new experiences. She may be a little impulsive at times. She is very close with Za, and often turns to Za for comfort and advice. Although she cares for Za very much, she’s conflicted on her next steps in terms of her personal life.
Ta lives alone, and when things start to go even more downhill in her life, she starts to lose hope. She is in a low part of her life. In the story, we follow Ta as she navigates her life when an emerging organization offers her perhaps, the perfect solution to her life crisis.
Ta appears in all three parts.

(frustrated) It's like it's always something, one after another. That's all it's been for the last 6 months. If it's not my car, it's my phone; if it's not my phone, it's my alarm.
(curious) So, how much does it cost to stay at this place?
(revealing) Oh well, you know... I have decided to give that invitation thing a try.
Female, 16-30, lead
Za is Ta’s best friend. She is observant, skeptical, curious, and protective of Ta.
Za has a little boy named Ado. Ado is adopted. Za always thinks through her decisions thoroughly before acting upon it. She often tries to advise Ta, but she can only do so much.
Za appears in all three parts.

(after asking another character to live with her) What other options do you have. Things will be easier, and you don't have to rush to find anything.
(slightly skeptical, assuring) It's definitely a scam. (pause) It's interesting, but I'm not buying it. I know how the brain works and there are no studies being done to harness "psychic abilities", let alone teleport people.
(assuring her kid) Good. Then you can just tell me everything about your trip. ...And if you still want to go next year, we'll make sure you have a better camera; we'll get you a new one, okay?
Male, 25-50, Indian sounding
The founder of an organization called Telecity. Telecity offers a helmet that allows users to teleport and manifest almost anything instantly. They are the future of technology, and are only seeking to grow and expand even further. They send out invitations to people to use their technology and to join their “city”.
He speaks very calmly. He's the guy you want to be around all the time. Very wise and knowledgable guy.
The Founder appears in all three parts.

(calmly) I have good news and bad news. ...The good news is, yes, everything you've seen in the video is what you'll see here today, if you want. The bad news is: if you were hoping it wasn't. Well, it is still real.
(kindly) Careful about the word recruit. We are not looking to recruit anyone. That is reserved for religions and cults. We seek to expand to the entire world. And instead of trying to recruit people, we make them make their decisions.
(informative, reassuring) While using our devices, occasionally you may experience short glimpses of missing time, but this only increases when large groups of users are gathered together and using the engine, or if you're trying to manifest too many things at once. So it is advised you limit the number of people you're visually around, to ensure the helmets do not begin to cause missing time. We think this is because of the overload in the system.
Female, 16-30
One of the receptionists working at the Telecity building. She greets people and assists them with anything they might need. She is also the one who sets up tours for people who receive invitations.
The receptionist appears in two of the three parts.

(greeting) Hello. Welcome to Telecity. What brings you here today?
The Founder will be here shortly and will explain everything you need to know.
(genuine) What was your name again?
Male, 7-14
Ado is Za’s adopted child from an organization called Parenta. Genuinely a good kid. He has been living with Za for about a year. He loves Za very much, but he isn’t used to having other people and visitors around. In the case that happens, he has a huge tantrum. He loves playing video games.
Ado appears in all three parts.

(enthusiastically; re: did you have fun?) Yes, lots of fun!
(tantrum) No! No! No! I don't wanna have any visitors! I want it just be us!
(apologetic) Hi Ta, sorry I acted up the other day. We would love to have you over as company.
Female, 25-50
One of the four council members at Telecity. They are in charge of making decisions such as expanding Telecity’s outreach and further developing their technology. CM1 is confident and bold.
CM1 appears in all three parts.

(genuine) So, did you guys enjoy your visit?
(authoritatively) We have other things to attend to, but we hope you enjoy the city.
(confused and pissed) What are you doing? Why are you taking your suit off?

Two of the council members at Telecity. They are in charge of making decisions such as expanding Telecity’s outreach and further developing their technology.
CM2 has one line, and CM3 also only has one line. Preferably voiced by different people but they're combined into one listing because the characters are highly similar.

(agreeing) And I do too.
(kindly informing) Oh, no, we speak, it's just that The Founder has a better way of explaining things than we do.

CM4 appears in two of the three parts.

(steps inside a room to see someone held at gunpoint) What's going on Za?
(agreeing) Same here.
(forgiving) It's not your fault. You were tricked. It happens to all of us.
Male, 16-30
Bel is a sociable, friendly, playful, and kind guy. He's your typical young adult. He lives in the city and is generally very friendly to others, especially newcomers. He highly enjoys Telecity and what they have to offer.

(seeing someone new) Hi, are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around here before.
(playfully, re: "where are we going?") ...It's a surprise. Trust me, you'll like it.
(reassuring someone else's concern about getting into trouble) If anything, it'll be on my record because I was the one teleporting. ...But everyone knows me around here, so they know if I did it, it was probably for a good reason.
Male, 16-30
Bawz is against Telecity and what they stand for. He believes that all of the founders and council members are androids and are not real people. He tries to warn others about this on the internet, but his posts and websites are taken down before anyone has a chance to see them. He is the leader and moderator for this movement against Telecity. He is calm and collected, calculated, knowledgable, and serious about the movement.
Bawz appears in one of the three parts.

(confirming) You must have come across our message on the internet? About Telecity?
(calmly/up to interpretation) We can't keep running. Eventually they'll be everywhere. So we have to fight and stop them now before they spread.
(passionately) The technology does seem very good, but the fact that they're hiding their identity must mean something, right? Why would they hide who they are if they know they can be trusted?
Female, 30-50
Pir is Ta's superior at Ta's old job, AIO Broadcasting. She is mature, independent, considerate, and firm. She's been quite lenient with Ta's tardiness in the past, but now she cannot keep being this generous.
Pir appears in one of the three parts.

Okay, see you when you get here. Don't rush, drive safely.
(nicely, slightly apologetic) Ta, you've been a great contributor for our show. (pause) But we need someone who's going to be here on time every day; we can't afford to lose any time as this is a live show.
(reassurance) Keep my number. Give me a call if you need anything, okay? Maybe a place to stay, or go out for a bite to eat, okay?
Throughout the three parts there are characters with very minor appearances that only say a few lines. We still have over 20+ roles for characters with very minimal lines (most are less than 10!). Some of these characters include the doctor, a receptionist, a mysterious person, an interviewee, an interviewer, a reporter, and more,
We are looking for any/a variety of ages and voice types. We probably have a role fit for you!

(reporter reporting) A new organization claims to allow humanity to, what they say, "Expand their consciousness through technological magic". The Founder claims to have discovered a way to connect with quote, "the cosmic energy through harnessing the infinite potential within every user," end of quote.
(doctor informing) It's because Ado isn't used to visitors. Many kids that age display those same symptoms when they feel someone or something is getting in the way of something they love.
(mysterious conspiracy person) If you're watching this, write my email down right now, quick, before they remove it, and contact me.
