I've extended the deadline
I've extended the deadline, and also added a few notes to Saito's description of her voice. Figured I'd give some more time as I'll be busy during the original deadline.
**WARNING** The work being dubbed has depictions of self harm and suicide. Though only hinted at in this first and only chapter being dubbed, I feel it is necessary to include a warning.**
Yokoi is a manga artist who spends his nights delivering newspapers just to make rent, since his original works just don’t seem to sell. Suddenly, one day he gets a visit from Saito-san, a self-proclaimed fan of Yokoi’s work who made the long journey to meet him. Yokoi quickly realizes that the things Saito-san sees, feels, and thinks about are different from most people… These two struggle together to find a place to belong in this unique slice-of life!
This is a fandub of the first chapter of Souhachi Hagimoto and Renji Morita's manga "That's My Atypical Girl"
I do not intend to dub any other chapters, so this is not a long term project. I have already begun work on this project, and an example of how it will look (minus sound effects, music, etc.) is listed below. I have a great love for this manga, nowhere have I read anything like it. I wanted to create this video to help spread the word that it's official English release is nearing completion, and to hopefully get more people talking about this unique drama.
The first chapter can be read here: https://kodansha.us/series/thats-my-atypical-girl/
Should the video fail to embed, it can be found here: https://youtu.be/4a_4UtsUmFE?si=IPMs24N1FQ2P-6N8
Thank you for reading, I look forward to your auditions!

Megumi Saito is an odd girl. She is very blunt, and often improperly precepted as rude. She will often get right to the point when speaking to someone, often untactfully, but if someone doesn't get to the point when speaking to her, she won't understand the subtext of what they're trying to say. She has a lot of trouble understanding other people, who frequently have an even harder time understanding her. The truth is Megumi has a developmental disorder, and has difficulty communicating the same way we would. Years of isolation and bullying compounded with an abusive home and constant battles with depressive episodes and flashbacks have left her with little will to live. The only thing she finds solace in is the original work by our other protagonist, Taku Yokoi. Someone finally wrote something akin to her experience, like they understand her. So, feeling that she has nothing left, she ventures on her own to meet the one person who might understand her, though you'd never know that from her introduction.
This audition is only to help me dub all of chapter one, I have no plans to dub any other chapters, so most of what is written here will not come into play. Rather, it is to help build the framework of who Saito is.
Saito speaks very plainly. She's very direct with her sentences, and most of the time her emotions aren't plainly visible in the way she speaks, unless it is about something she is interested in, for example, the book Yokoi writes that she loves. Imagine a serious business woman, at least most of the time. She is not robotic, but she's definitely not a highly expressive anime girl archetype.
"Are you Excreta terrestrial-san?" *pause* "I love Opening Up." *pause* "You don't sell a print version, so I made one myself. I have a spare copy at home as well." "Are you... Excreta Terrestrial-san? Do I have the wrong person?"
"The depiction of the boy in "Opening Up" was very realistic. I was ignored by the rest of the class, so it resonated deeply with me."
(excited) "I understand! It was the same for me! (Normal) Is there a convenience store nearby? I forgot I was hungry.
