Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow Fan Dub
Project Overview
Hello there! My name is James White, you also might know me as:
@shrimpfriedmedia on Instagram with 9,183 followers and on TikTok with 17.3K followers.
Normally I'd plug my YouTube in, too, but that's not nearly as impressive.
So if you've been following me for a while, you might've noticed that I'll post in bursts of several days. Well now, I plan on doing a WomanOfTomorrow Week since I love the book so freaking much. Only, I've run into a dilemma. The usual female VA I already work with is already voicing Ruthye in the book, and I'm trying to wean off of double-casting whenever I can. So, I'm looking for a Supergirl!
In this project, we would be voicing over 9 separate scenes from the book. Everybody else's lines have already been recorded, so you can also use the surrounding lines to influence your performance if need be.
I would typically try to pay the VA's I work with, however, I don't start my new job until next week and money is TIGHT. I know that this is what all the director-pricks say, but I think I can pay in at the very least decent exposure. If you were to be chosen, you would also be given a collaborator role on the dubs when I post it to Instagram so it'll also show up on your account.
If you choose to try out, which I hope you do, I'm looking for a couple of things:
A naturalistic cadence. Try your best to sound as natural as possible. These dubs will fall apart if it sounds like you're putting on what I like to call a Voice Actor Impression. Act natural. Try to tweak both yourself and Kara to be like each other.
Your Discord username. This one's pretty obvious. We'll be doing all of our work on there.
Your email address/Instagram. This is so that I can be 1000% sure I can contact you to let you know that you got it. I know this is a LOT of layers of security/contact. So just add as many as you feel comfortable with and just maek sure that it's a method of reaching you where I can be COMPLETELY sure I've reached out to you and you'll get it.

For this particular role, I would have to implore you to read issue 6 of Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. I have dubbed the issue myself if anybody needs a reference and I will leave it at the bottom of this description. Issue 6 is high suggested because it gives the majority of Kara's backstory that will be useful for forming a superobjective and all that jazz.
If I'm to drop all the fancy actor talk and be objective here, your key to this performance will be human. More specifically: be a woman. Be a woman who lost everything and everyone she ever knew at a very young age and is trying to be okay with it. Be a 21-year-old whose cousin is Superman, a 21-year-old who has mixed feelings on her "perfect" cousin while also is trying to be good and a hero like him. Be a 21-year-old who's messy, who swears even though her family will get on her, who has a big big heart and is honestly a little bit sick of it. Kara is complicated. Kara is human.
I'd strongly suggest you read the book and not just the singular issue I dubbed. I honestly can't put Kara into words. If you were to take one piece of advice from this, let it be this: forget you're playing Supergirl. Instead, play a 21-year-old woman who just so happens to be Supergirl.
In the audition lines, I listed what issue the line is from in the book. If you haven't read it, I highly suggest you look it up.
Here's the dub I did of Issue 6 I did a while back. It's not my best work as a director/editor, but it'll get the job done. Don't take any inspiration from the Kara VA. That was a friend of mine in my theatre department who owed me a favor. She's great, but don't base anything off of her performance.
