Sundog will be an illustrated short film following a young coyote who befriends dogs in a nearby town. She has to come to terms with her future and the death of her father figure. Themes include coming-of-age, societal expectations, freedom, work, death, and climate change.

Production

The second draft of the script is in progress. The script’s length is currently 30-60 minutes, it will be cut down later.

The whole project has been 1 or 2 years in the making so far, and completing it will probably take at the very least twice that time.

The finished film will not be ‘animated’. See these tests: (https://youtu.be/u_2Rjm6RDPs) (https://youtu.be/J4S3aWm01XQ)

To note

Everyone working on Sundog is a volunteer, I (Trail) will not make any money from it, and this will not change in the future. The final product will be free to watch. Sundog will not be used to sell anything else, such as sequels/prequels, merchandise, memberships (patreon etc), or books.

More that I wrote on this topic: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e-sfWaNd_PBx0XvFVtU9ryonBFJ9tq6lz3SPJ5BtfwY/edit?usp=sharing

This is the first film that I am directing, so there will be (possibly major) setbacks.

Applying

Applications will be accepted at least until March 30. They may remain open past that, this will be updated if so.

I will be accepting people on a rolling basis.

I’m looking for artists to help develop the visual style of the film: character design, environment design, FX design, art style, color script, story beats, etc.

Things I’m looking for: skill with shape language, color theory, FX, drawing dogs and/or plants.

Though I will try to keep it as low as possible (you won’t get ‘kicked out’ for not doing work), there is a small time commitment. For example, there will be meetings and check-ins.

Discord is required. An art program with .psd import and export is preferred but not necessary.

A variety of influences would be useful for this, so feel free to apply regardless of your art style, skill level, area of expertise, or art subjects.

Include (required): name/pronouns, discord tag, any relevant experience or other information, and a link to your portfolio.

Optional: social media links, website, areas of expertise/knowledge, or the art/media/genres/aesthetics/artistic movements that are your biggest inspirations.
