Project Overview
Starfox: Aperture is a fan-made series set in an alternate universe, serving as a "what if" scenario for the StarFox franchise. It exists between the events of StarFox 2 and StarFox Adventures, taking place in a timeline that diverges from the canonical events of the official series. The story does not directly follow up to any of the existing StarFox games unless necessary for the plot, and it features a great deal of creative reinterpretation of the established lore. (It's worth noting that StarFox 64 is viewed here as a reboot or reimagining of the original StarFox story, set in a 3D format, which is why its events don't directly influence this narrative.)
One of the defining features of Starfox: Aperture is its darker, more mature tone. The narrative takes inspiration from darker fan works, such as A Fox in Space, a fan animation that explores the StarFox universe with a more somber and complex atmosphere. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out as it explores themes of loss, morality, and the consequences of war in a much more nuanced way than the official series. This darker edge is central to Aperture, as the characters are pushed to their limits in a universe that isn’t as bright and optimistic as the one we’re used to seeing in the official StarFox games.
Additionally, this series includes a self-insert character, something I understand might be seen as a bit cringey to some, but it’s something I genuinely enjoy doing. By placing myself into the StarFox universe, It adds a grounded-view of a casual person of society, looking over and experiencing the situations that the StarFox series usually tackles.
But what exactly is StarFox?
For those who may be unfamiliar, StarFox is a video game series created by Shigeru Miyamoto and developed by Nintendo. The first game, StarFox, was released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was a groundbreaking title, blending rail-shooter gameplay with 3D graphics, a rarity for its time. In the game, players control Fox McCloud, the leader of the elite mercenary team known as StarFox, which includes his loyal companions Falco Lombardi, Peppy Hare, and Slippy Toad. The team is tasked with protecting their home planet, Corneria, from the villainous scientist Andross, whose sinister plot threatens the entire Lylat system.
The StarFox franchise has since expanded into numerous sequels, spin-offs, and other media, including comics and an animated short. Each game introduced new characters, ships, and challenges, with the core team of StarFox battling against a variety of enemies in their quest to save the galaxy. The series is known for its fast-paced aerial combat, intricate space battles, and deep lore surrounding the various planets and factions of the Lylat system.
Over the years, the StarFox series has taken on different styles and tones, ranging from the more lighthearted and whimsical StarFox 64 to the more adventure-focused StarFox Adventures for the GameCube. Each installment has been unique, but they all share a common thread: the exploration of a complex universe where heroism and sacrifice play crucial roles.
In Starfox: Aperture, I'm introducing a new and darker layer to the story, where the team is not only fighting external threats but also facing internal struggles, moral ambiguities, and the consequences of the galaxy's long-standing conflicts. Through this alternative universe, we get to explore a side of the StarFox universe that hasn’t been fully explored in the official games, with an emphasis on character development, psychological depth, and a reimagined storyline that pushes the boundaries of what we know. (I am still exploring the lore, so if I get things wrong, let me know!)

Backstory: Fox is the son of James McCloud, a legendary pilot who was killed by Andross, the main antagonist in the first Star Fox game. Fox is driven by a sense of justice and his desire to follow in his father's footsteps.
Skills: Excellent pilot, skilled with blasters, and has strong leadership qualities.
Personality: Courageous, determined, and loyal to his friends and team.
Games: Featured in every Star Fox title, with his first appearance in Star Fox (1993) for the SNES.

Skills: Masterful pilot, exceptional sharpshooter.
Personality: Brash, cocky, and a bit of a loner, but ultimately cares for his team.
Games: Featured in Star Fox (1993), Star Fox 64 (1997), Star Fox: Assault (2005), and others.

Personality: Greedy, treacherous, and manipulative with a deep-seated arrogance.
