This casting call listing is for a short dramatic animation project designed in Valve's Source Filmmaker Animation studio. It is intended to be released as a entry in the annual Saxxy Awards (http://www.sourcefilmmaker.com/) using original characters and a dramatic storyline atypical to the conventional projects pitched through Source Filmmaker.
The story in question deals with a tragedy, and how the character struggles to move beyond it, and how it continues to define their life.
Due to scheduling difficulties, previous voice actors for the main roles had to opt out. As such, I've opened the listing to applicants for the main roles, which are paid $100 (with prospects to go higher) and $50 respectively. These are difficult roles to fill, so read through the corresponding notes before submitting an audition.
Due to circumstances changing, previous voice actress had to drop out of the role.
This is a long term commitment (2 months, give or take for fine tuning)

Red has been written as a seventeen year old girl, who is on the cusp of adulthood. Accent wise, she falls within Australian/American delivery, although some English influence isn't an issue. As the roles for her parents have been filled, any auditions will have to fall close to these requirements. Ideal age falls between 18-24, though I have leeway, maturity is needed due to the content involved. This is a challenging voice role, hence the large payment involved.
She has a young, yet developed voice. Still has the innocence of a child in her vocals. More introverted, yet she can be excitable and confident when she’s among friends. She projects herself as being in control, quick to respond and bounce a conversation around. They try and impress and appeal to people, to come off as talented and friendly. She doesn’t want to feel like an enemy to anyone, though she does talk behind her friends backs when encouraged to by others. Amongst her friends she is the group leader alongside her best friend Cali in a sense, and they clamour around her for validation. Outside of her friends group she is seen more as someone who is surrounded by the misfits in order to be validated, though she isn’t really aware of that being the case. Still naïve, and follows the lead of Cali more than taking strides to be her own person. She succumbs to peer pressure for that reason, although she’s guarded and cautious thanks to her more restrictive upbringing.
'Are you kidding, you’re the star - my god you were so great. Don’t say that!' (Phone conversation with her friend, Cali)
'Oh. No, I just wanted to say I’ve got a boyfriend.' (being pestered about her silence)
'You are just like him. Another person who just wants to control me is the LAST thing I need. I deserve more. I am better than your love. I deserve someone who cares about who I am. I MATTER.' (Theatrical performance rehearsal. Multiple variations on the delivery, from passionate to dishevelled and what's inbetween, are a plus!)

Jake is a mysterious character within the context of the project. There's room for many accents, so we're not too worried about constraints there. He is pitched as a 18-24 year old man who has a real sauve, confident air to him. He's willing to jump into social situations and be risky, flirty, and daring. His role in the project is short, but it is an essential role in the project and not for the faint of heart.
Other characteristics are that he is manipulative and controlling, but also capable of wearing a mask, being disarmingly appealing and charming, and turn suddenly and violently into a malicious and vocally abusive soul.

"Well now you’ve got me stuck, because now she knows my name but I don’t know hers." (talking aside to a friend, but directing to Red)

Firm, yet soft voice - a caretaker. Sounds like he understands and sympathises with who he speaks too. Very calming / peaceful tone, could definitely imagine him voicing an audiobook for meditation. Middle Age / Senior. Sounds wise and knowledgable.
'So Red, how've you been feeling? It's been a few years now.'
'Did you know you're pregnant?'
'I don't have a choice.'
Excitable, bubbly and enthusiastic, always trying to appeal to the kindness of people around her. Higher pitched voice communicates her passionate nature quite strongly, to the point where she seems like she's trying too hard to be noticed.
'Ooo, look at that one over there with the nice blue suit and weird bird mask! He's so hot!' (giggly)
'Oo, okay. I’m going to go off and erh...mingle! Wish me luck!' (slightly intoxicated)
'I KNOW. You should see the people around here, my god!'
Still in the closing stages of puberty, her voice ranges from deeper to mid pitch at this time in keeping with her larger frame. At first she sounds almost bored in tone, but this quickly gives way to the spectrum of emotional expression as she congratulates the protagonist, and laughs and jokes along. Her vocal range belies her expression. She comes off as a bubbly personality, which is very friendly, despite being a bit physically overbearing and direct. Amongst her friends she is the loud socialite of the group, an instigator of conversation and occasionally conflict. Open to accents, will know what works when I hear it myself.
'Such spoilsports. Look at this place, it’s incredible.'
'She’d go down on the first guy to show her attention.'
