Sodor's Engines | Prologue: Voice Roles

Sodor's Engines | Prologue: Voice Roles

Project Overview

(This is a fan project. Please submit an audition because you would like to participate in a fan series, not because you desire financial compensation.)

Sodor's Engines | Prologue is a short fan series based on 'the Railway Series' and 'Thomas the Tank Engine and friends'. It follows the primary characters in their most victorious moments, while giving some extra character to everybody involved.

Please audition for as many characters as you'd like.

Not all scripts are finished at the moment, but will likely be at the end of the audition period.

If you are in an episode, I will contact you, send you the document with the scripts, and send you a vocal run-through of the episode.

If you have any other questions, just comment below

Edward the Blue Engine (NWR #2)

Edward is an old and experienced engine.  He is an Furness Railway K2 Tender engine, and can usually be seen pulling goods and passenger trains.
Edward runs his own Branch line, which starts at Wellsworth Junction, passes through the Capital of Sodor, Suddery, and ends at the port of Brendam.  At Brendam, Edward can meet Bill or Ben, who bring trucks from the China Clay works.
A train of Rail enthusiasts come to the Island. They visit all the branch lines, say hello to all the engines and do many things. On the last day, Edward has trouble starting the enthusiast train. The big engines comment on this. The events of his starring story happen after this.

Voice:
I like TramEngineStudios' interpretation of Edward's voice. It's soft, and has come spark, while still sounding like an older character. Keith Wickham's Edward voice is also one to take inspiration from. I personally stray from more nasally Edward voices myself. While they don't sound bad, they're just a little grading for me.
Edward's Class was built for the Furness Railway, and he mostly worked near Barrow-In-Furness for most of his life, so I gave Edward a Cumbrian accent.

Henry the Green Engine (NWR #3)

Henry is the friendliest of the big 3. He can be judgmental and selfish at times, but a strong bond with him goes a long way. He is an LMS "Black Five" Tender engine, and can usually be seen pulling goods trains along the main line..
Every week at night he pulls "The Flying Kipper", (Which is the main concept of his standalone story) which is a long line of vans which are delivered from the big harbor to the yard at Manchester.

Back when he was first built, his firebox was too small for his size. He couldn't match the necessary steam pressure his boiler required. He was given special Welsh Coal, which burned hotter than the average coal. The events of his starring story happen after this.

Voice:
Henry is more soft spoken than the other engines. His interpretation from Keith Wickham is the voice I think of for him. In Sodor's Engines, Henry was built on the Midland Railway, which is why he has a Midland accent.

Gordon the Big Engine (NWR #4)

Gordon is a pompous engine, who thinks highly of himself because of his abilities. He is usually quite conceited, but in a mutual bond, he's more of a bigger brother figure. He is an GNR A1 "Pacific" Tender engine, and can usually be seen pulling the premiere Express, "The Wild Nor Wester".

One day, a pompous Gordon refuses to pull a goods train. He tries to jam the turntable, but he rolls off the turntable, through a fence, and into a ditch. The events of his standalone story happen after this.

Voice:
I have very few preferences for Gordon's Voice. He just needs to have some vocal range, and sound a little snooty. The most popular vocal depiction of Gordon is a deep voice, first presented by Ringo Starr.
Gordon was built for the Great Northern Railway, so I gave him a Northern English accent.

James the Red Engine (NWR #5)

James is a stylist red engine with a huge ego. He is a L&YR Class 28 Tender engine, and can usually be seen pulling goods or passenger trains along the main line.
Originally, he was given wooden brake blocks, and had a nasty accident going around a bend. Sir Topham Hatt asked what colour he wanted to wear, and he chose red.

After being pompous and causing trouble, Sir Topham Hatt sent James to the yard. One day, James is allowed to leave and pull a particularly troublesome goods train. The events of his starring story happens after this.

Voice:
James is usually voiced in a scouse accent, this originating from narrator Michael Angelis, but I gave him a Lancashire Accent. He was built for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, after all.

Percy the Small Engine (NWR #6)

Percy is a cheeky little engine. He has a strong sense of righteousness, and can certainly be called an "underdog".  He is an Saddle Tank engine, and can usually be seen at the Harbour on Thomas' Branch line.
Sometimes he pulls the Mail train, but mostly meets Toby to collect stone trucks.

One day, the Vicar of Knapford and his Sunday school come to Knapford Harbour. Thomas is busy, so he asks Percy to take the train home. At four, the weather becomes horrid, and Percy has to act quickly. The events of his starring story happen after this.

Voice:
Percy is a small, plucky shunting engine. He's one of the youngest of the main 10 engines (second to Duck), so he has a much younger voice than most of the other engines. Percy meets Sir Topham Hatt at a big warehouse around London, so I've given him a London accent.

Toby the Tram Engine (NWR #7)

Toby is a old, wise but funny old engine. He doesn't really care about what others say about him.  He is an GER C53 Tram engine, and usually brings workmen in his coach, Henrietta.
Toby mostly brings workmen, and takes stone from Anopha Quarry.

A new diesel Tram named Mavis came to work at Anopha. Frosty weather and conceited behavior get Mavis in a silly accident, and deep trouble. The events of Toby's starring story happen after this.

Voice:
Toby is a Tram engine from East Anglia. Johnny Morris gave Toby a Devonshire accent, but a more locationally appropriate accent would be East Anglian English, so I've given him an East Anglian accent.

Duck the Tram Engine (NWR #8)

Duck is a proper, hardworking engine. He doesn't really care about what others say about him.  He is an GWR 57XX Pannier Tank engine, and usually works at the Big Station, Tidmouth.

A new diesel engine tells lies about Duck, making Gordon, Henry and James think that he's a rude engine who tells insults about them to the trucks. The events of Duck's starring story happen after this.

Voice:
The CGI series gives Duck a Somerset accent, which is commonly used in fan episodes and adaptations. My version of Duck keeps this accent.

Donald the Twin Engine (NWR #9)

Donald is one of two Caledonian twin engines. He is has a strong sense of humor and justice. He also believes in more supernatural phenomena. He is an CR 812 Tender engine, and usually helps his brother, Douglas clear snow in the winter.

Donald and Douglas were twins who arrived to Sodor together. Douglas was not meant to be there, and believes he is going to be sent away for scrap. The events of their starring story happen after this.

Voice:
Donald and Douglas both have thicker Scottish accents. Donald's is deeper than Douglas', in contrast to their whistle sounds.

Sir Topham Hatt I
Sir Topham Hatt.  He is the controller of the North Western Railway, and can often be seen around the railway, helping others, scolding engines when they mess up, and praising them when they do well. He bought the first 7 of the North Western fleet, and built the railway, so he has a strong dedication to Sodor.

Voice:
I am very flexible when it comes to Topham's voice, but he should preferably be a west Englander, as he was born in Swindon.

Sir Charles Topham Hatt II

Charles is the successor to Sir Topham Hatt.  He is the controller of the North Western Railway, and can often be seen around the railway, helping others, scolding engines when they mess up, and praising them when they do well. Charles is a lot more serious than his father, especially about financial matters, but he doesn't care about his engines any less.

Voice:
Charles is Sodor-born and likely has a Sudrian accent, but because this accent doesn't exist in really life, he can be any British accent that you feel fits.
