Skyrim Mod: Riften Southwoods District
Project Overview
Hi there! I've been making a small city expansion mod for Skyrim called "Riften Extension - Southwoods District". The project is coming close to completion and I would like to round it out with custom dialogue for some of the newly added NPCs, to add more life and immersion to the city. Some roles will also be involved in the new quests being added with the mod.
You can see the mod in question here:

I plan to coordinate this project mostly through Discord. For each role I'll send out a full script, which are usually 2-3 pages, then do a round of pickups as needed once I've heard the initial recordings. If you can do some of the audio editing for your recordings it will be greatly appreciated, though not strictly necessary.
As a casual fan project, this doesn't have a hard deadline, but I would like to finish it within the next couple months in order to move on to new mod ideas. I'm going to set the deadline for auditions as April 30 for now and would ideally like all recording done by the end of May. This is a hobbyist project so deadlines may slip, but that's the goal I'm setting.
A few other points:
- Feel free to audition for multiple roles if you're willing to voice all of them.
- Most of the work for this mod is done on the weekend and that will likely be true for the audio work too, but I will check in on auditions a couple times during the week.
- A couple more roles may be added for the quest still being worked on. Let me know if you want to be considered for anything that may come up beyond what is listed here
- If you feel you need more specifics on how a role should sound, you can message me and I'll do my best to explain what I had in mind.
- Pronunciation isn't crucial for an audition, but here are some guides for the names
- Varilia Caro- vuh-rill-ee-uh & car-o
- Sadela (in Wilvar's line) - Suh-dell-uh
- Jyte (in Elabyth's line) - Yih-tay

Varilia is a minor character who serves as the management for the workhouse building added by the mod. She is an entitled imperial noble who thinks she deserves better than her current station.
[Commenting on the civil war after Riften is taken by the Empire]
It’s good that Riften is finally free of those stormcloaks. I have no doubt the rest of these ridiculous nord rebels will be crushed in short order.
[When asked why she was made the head of the workhouse]
I shouldn’t expect some wandering vagabond to know about the Caro family. My ancestors include some of the most prominent nobility in all of Cyrodiil. I’m only handling the labor of these commoners temporarily.
[Demanding a trespassing player leave]
Get out, or I’ll have you removed.
Urshra is an orc raised in the stronghold of Lagrashbur who has since left her home for the city of Riften. She is gruff and terse in a way common to many of her kin.
[When asked what she does for a living]
Hmph, if I had a real forge I’d be making the strongest blades in the Rift. For now I hammer out nails and horseshoes for these soft city folk.
[When asked if her old home of Lagrashbur needs help with its curse]
Orcs don’t like outsiders. But if you want to associate with a god-cursed tribe of my kin, they might be desperate enough to accept help.
[Reaction to being attacked]
Orcs are always ready for a fight!
Balyn is a dark elf raised in Skyrim. He runs a store that sells exotic goods from the neighboring provinces. He is sly but friendly and loves trade and coin above all else.
[Greeting a player as they enter his store]
Take a look around. You won’t find these wares just anywhere in Skyrim.
[The PC notes that Balyn carries a lot of booze and asks if the mead brewing Black-Briar family objects to the competition.]
(Scoffs) Extra trade across the border brings more septims to Riften for all of us. The Black-Briars are smart enough to realize this. Well.. Maven is at least.
[When asked by the PC if he gets his goods across the Skyrim border via smuggling]
Smuggling against who sera? The Empire? Our Jarl may be called Law-Giver but she’s hardly concerned with the import tariffs of her war enemy.
Elabyth is a breton priest of Mara from High Rock. She was saved from an attack by a group of raiders when one of the bandits, Jyte, grabbed her horse and ran away with her. The two of them now run a store in Riften selling pelts and meat from Jyte's hunting.
Elabyth is an amiable and gentle person who cherishes her peaceful life and being in a city with a temple of Mara. She has given up her role as priest, but will still happily tell anyone who listens about her chosen goddess.
[Welcome line when entering her store]
Welcome. We’ve got warm furs and fresh meat, hunted right here in the Rift.
[The PC has killed the bandits that once raised Jyte, Elabyth's wife. This is part of her response when the PC talks to her about it]
I hate violence, and I know Jyte won’t understand, but I still think you did the right thing by driving them off.
[When asked how the priests of Mara feels about the religious strife surrounding the civil war]
In truth, The Divines were never accepted by everyone. But Mara is worshiped throughout all of Tamriel, even the nords who keep to the old way recognize the goddess of love.
Wilvar is a kindly nord fisherman who retired from working at the Riften Fishery. He now spends his time by the shore to stay close to the lake he spent most of his life on. The player is lead to him when trying to uncover the history surrounding a revolt that took place in the city 70 years prior to the game.
[When asked if he is a fisher]
(chuckles to himself) Not much of one these days. I worked at the Fishery since it first opened, but my hands and knees have lost their strength. Still, I couldn’t bear to be away from the water.
[The player asks if Wilvar was present at the revolt against Hosgunn Crossed-Daggers]
Hah! I’m not quite that old! No, I remember finding burned pieces of the keep when I was a boy, but the only person here who might have seen it in person is that dark elf woman at the trading post. Sadela, I think her name is.
[Reaction to hearing the player use the power of the Thu'um]
The Voice! I never thought I would hear it myself.
Ogmir is the nord muscle who keeps order in the Riften Workhouse. Though not outwardly hostile or threatening like Maul, he is very gruff and blunt when dealing with the player.
[When asked what his job is]
I handle security at the Workhouse. You can come in if you’ve got something to say to one of the workers, but keep your hands to yourself.
[When asked who is in charge at the workhouse]
Varilia is the boss here, and she doesn’t take visitors. But if there are any problems, you can be sure Maven Black-Briar will hear about it. Most of the city is in her debt, and the workhouse is no exception.
[Reaction to having non-hostile spells cast at him]
Damn wizards, keep your magic away from me!
